Whats the upside for the Knicks? Snell and Butler are nice pieces, but having Boozer on the books next year means they probably can't add a star for at least another year. Felton has been absolutely terrible this year and is making close to $4 m each of the next two years. Shumpert has been mediocre to poor (I think) this year and is making 4.3 mil split over the next 2 seasons. Melo can still opt out after this season (unless the trade is predicated on Melo resigning). I just don't see the upside here for either team. Ok fine there's an upside to getting Melo, but if you believe Melo would sign with the Bulls, get him in the offseason, don't let him come here in a lame duck season (without Rose/Deng) and let him get a taste of Thibs (I guess you could spin this as a potential positive too) before becoming a FA. Sign and trade in the offseason.
