    Winter meetings are in the winter. January or early February, I believe. GM meetings are in a few weeks in November. Winter meetings are in early December. Ah that's why I was confused, was thinking about the GM meetings. To answer your original question, I think any interview process the Cubs might go through with him will be done mostly on the down-low and we might not even officially hear about it until he's hired. I have it on good authority that the Cubs won't even reach out to Maddon for an interview until this thread hits 100 pages.

    It's a gamble. I would have made the bet with odds (like you give $750 if the Cubs finish .500 or below, you get $1000 if they finish above). There are too many variables, too many young players who we don't know how long it will take them to adjust to bigs, injuries, the possibility of the Cubs starting off slow and Theo deciding to be sellers at the deadline one more time, etc.

    but red zone is only useful on sunday and doesn't have anything to do with primetime games. are you watching thur/sun/mon night? Not diligently, if I am home and not doing something else, I'll flip it on for a few minutes here and there to see how my fantasy players are doing, or if the score is close late I'll put it on. But yeah interest is definitely diminished over a few years ago. Last night's Chargers/Broncos game would have been a game I would have watched in its entirety 3-4 years ago. I still watch a 10x more football than I do the other sports.

    Overall sportswise, jersey's point is spot on about getting older and having more to do. Obviously I still post here frequently and keep up on sports news and discussion, but actually sitting down and watching games not involving my teams has become very infrequent. And when my team sucks I even stop watching them quite a bit. However, the NFL is the exception for me, probably for 2 reasons: Fantasy football and NFL Red Zone channel. Fantasy football forces me to pay attention to the league as a whole, and the red zone channel is just an amazing entertainment experience imo.

    I Googled and found an article about Yunel Escobar that said Maddon and the bilingual bench coach (Dave Martinez) met with him before the waiver deadline to assure him he wouldn't be moved. Since the writer specifically mentioned Martinez was bilingual, I'm guessing Maddon isn't. Ok well, how is his hip holding up?

    This by no means lowers my desire to get Maddon but I'd feel a little bad for Renteria. There wasn't a ton I didn't like about him and Theo and company said nothing but good things about his performance and left little doubt that he'd be back. Would suck for him to be dumped for a hotter girl after one season.

    Would also be nice if Rivers tried to pass to Oliver beyond the LOS. he's positive now with a 22 yard completion but before that he has 5 receptions for -4 yards and 6 yards on 9 carries. Ugh

    Let me preface this by saying I'm a huge Wiggins fan. I don't mind trade for the Cavs even if Wiggins becomes a current generation TMac. I think Kevin Love is a top 15 player, plays a position of need and gives the Cavs a player they can win with over the next 3 years. I think it's a trade they had to make and one that makes them better. Also there is a chance that LeBron wanted them to trade for love as a condition for coming back to Cleveland.

    I love that hating on the Cardinals is a national thing now so we don't have to sound like lonely bitter cubs fans bitching about these things.

    Contractual obligation. What are they gonna do, not let him be on the radio anymore? Not pay him what they've referred to on the radio as a "handsome" amount, which is probably still pretty insignificant to him. Well also the people he's offending are the local sports media, who have historically been ruthless to people they don't like. Again, I don't care that he skipped a stupid radio show, just pointing out there is more at stake that side money for him. But I don't think Jay cares.

    I didn't realize that 8:30 CT game would be on nationally. This might actually be the week my wife breaks up with me. 14 hours of football.

    Not quite the hospital so not good enough, right? lol seriously a weak excuse, come on. omgz he couldnt have just done the show later in the day? we gotta run this bozo out of town already. he couldn't have scheduled this doctors appointment when he didn't have a radio show to do? he didn't know about this appointment until the morning of, which happened the be the day after a bunch of controversy related to his team happened? his wife, who half the time seems to be in attendance at the show, couldn't have taken the kid to a doctor's appointment? should have come up with a better excuse. well yeah i think the excuse is silly. He would have been better off just not giving an excuse, he didnt owe one to anyone.

    I'm pretty sure the ones that aren't rotated into the playoffs are like regular bowl games with specific conference tie-ins. There are no more "at-large" teams selected. I believe those big bowls not hosting a playoff game (Cotton, Fiesty, Peach this year) still have a very high payout similar to a BCS bowl.
