  1. You lost me here. It's either a winner-take-all game or a sweep basically. 4-1 is stretching it, but I consider a 5 game victory in a 7 game series pretty dominant. There's never been a Cubs playoff series where they represented themselves well, but lost in non-heartbreaking fashion. They've either been dominated or pissed it away. So basically the Cubs haven't lost a 5 game series 3-1 or a 7 game series 4-2 in the 6 playoff series they've lost since 1945?
  2. 6 safeties on the roster. Guessing Conte is out this week at least. Also wonder with the 2 LBs signed to the practice squad if that's not bad news for McClellin and/or Bostic. Adam Hoge was on The Game this afternoon and mentioned that early word is that Conte's concussion wasn't too severe. (the rest is him speculating, not anything the Bears have said) Don't be shocked if he's out there Sunday despite 2 concussions in 45 days.
  3. Started the other NHL thread, might as well start this one. I don't see a lot of excitement for the season to start other than people saying it in relation to the Bears disappointing season to date. It's probably because nothing matters except health before the playoffs. Last year proved it, as the Hawks was sluggish at times during the regular season, only finished 3rd in the division and then turned up the gas when the playoffs started. In the end, they were basically an unlucky bounce away from winning their second straight Cup and 3rd in 5 seasons. So fellow Hawks fans, what should we be excited about for the regular season? Maybe its the fact that barring a jump in the cap, this might be the final Hawks run for a guy like Sharp or Seabrook, meaning without a quick retooling we might take a step back after this season. Maybe hoping/looking forward to Teuvo forcing himself on the roster and becoming a key contributor to the team. Maybe its just about appreciating how you have at worst one of the 3 best teams in hockey and get to watch them play every other night.
  4. If you project Harden's 08 WAR to CC's IP (253), he would be higher (7.7 vs. 7.2) but the fact that CC was a workhorse, and Harden would often struggle to go 6 innings in a game (only 4/13 starts with over 6 IP with the Cubs vs. 14/18 starts with over 6 IP for CC with Brewers), it swings the balance in Sabathia's favor.
  5. Yeah I've seen TB a lot too. Am I missing something?
  6. that prompted me to check Football Outsider's rankings this week. Ugly... Bears 19th overall, 16th on offense, 14th on defense, 26th on special teams.
  7. Absolutely, but it would never happen. Why not? Too much of an alpha dog for Trestman? Does Trestman and Ryan have any sort of a prior connection? Assistant coaches usually are picked cause they have good working relationships with the head coach. Not always, but a lot of the time. At least the high profile ones with multiple teams after them.
  8. Season starts tonight with 4 games. Starting the discussion....Crazy how close we were to starting the 2nd NHL season with a Seattle team: http://deadspin.com/the-coyotes-were-damned-close-to-moving-to-seattle-1643791488
  9. Wrigley Field (opened 1914) - 27 playoff games Busch Stadium (opened 2006) - 33 playoff games (with at least 2 more guaranteed)
  10. Tigers get swept with Schzerer, Verlander and Price going, Dodgers on the way to losing all 3 games started by Kershaw and Greinke. Maybe Theo is on to something with his focus on hitting? Edit: nm I forgot they won the Greinke game. Point still stands.
  11. No non-white FAs are going to want to play for their racist fans, so they are at an unfair disadvantage. They need a second competitive balance pick each year.
  12. What is the normal completion percentage for throws over 15 yards? I would assume somewhere around 40-45? 23.3% sounds terrible.
  13. Are the Bears making more practice squad moves this year or am I just noticing them more?
  14. Adjustments are absolutely criminal. I've lost a game from an adjustment before, it sucks.
  15. Are you [expletive] kidding me? I don't care how bad he's been that's idiotic.
  16. Cool grantland article cataloging all the ways baseball was said to be dying throughout it's history. The first written account of baseball's demise was back in....1868: The next death blow for baseball was supposed to be players being traded, then it was competition from other spots like bicycling and trap shooting, then it was the automobile, and it keeps going and going. http://grantland.com/the-triangle/the-dead-ball-century-mlb-baseball-playoffs-john-thorn-mlb-historian-baseball-decline-articles/
  17. How can God continue to propel the Cardinals to victory when their fan base is embarrassing themselves like this?
  18. You know they're going to win in the most stunning way possible in game 5. I don't know how much more stunningly they can win than the 2011-2012 playoffs. Maybe a 6 run rally starting with no one on and 2 outs in the 9th this time and a game winning grand slam by Pete Kozuma or whatever other Eckstein clones they have on their roster
  19. Of course the Cardinals are granted a timeout in the middle of an AB to fix the mound.
  20. So apparently Conte was allowed to re-enter the game for a play with his concussion... Jesus my disastrous college and pro seasons are blending together into one
  21. He looked really good. Hit a 3, got into the lane multiple times and finished. Not bad.
  22. For the second time in 5 weeks, a Bears player has the most detrimental play of the week according to whatever metric this is, which was Matt Forte's fumble, taking the Bears winning odds from 59% to 25% Cutlers 2nd INT was the 5th worst play of the week as well. http://regressing.deadspin.com/matt-fortes-fumble-was-the-most-damaging-play-of-week-5-1642887004/+benes
  23. I know you feel wronged, but I think calling it treason is a bit strong. lol I usually groan when people Cuse people's misspellings, but this one made me giggle. Wasn't that NC Cub Fan? Dammit it was. Serves me right for trying to be clever.
