  1. LMAO!! This is hilarious
  2. See this is why we suck more.
  3. 3rd and 1, 15 yard pass attempt. Some things never change. Love how the announcers are ripping on everyone
  4. Oh yeah this is going to be a short night for me
  5. Wow a team this disciplined gets a special teams penalty on the kickoff?
  6. Ok just because PTR opened the purse strings doesn't mean you need to spend recklessly
  7. Whats wrong with the weather? I know its wet but its not like it will be brutally cold. In fact it will only be around 8 degrees cooler than the temperature of last year's October game when the Saints housed the Bears. But anyways, its a matter of a team with something very real to play for vs. a disfunctional team with nothing to play for that's coming apart at the seams.
  8. the rest of the quote reads, "because he was the only one willing to take payment in the form Ameritrade stock and bison dogs."
  9. So much for Brett Anderson, the Dodgers just locked him up for 1/$10m
  10. The tiebreaker is strength of schedule. Whoever has the easiest schedule gets the 1st pick. Right now that goes Tampa Bay, then Jacksonville, then Tennessee, then Oakland. Where do you get your current SOS numbers? Was glad the Jets won today because now as long as the Raiders lose their last two games, they'll get the No. 3 pick. Worst case was Tennessee beating both the Jets and Jags and leaving the Raiders with the fourth pick. This is where I got them from: http://espn.go.com/nfl/standings/_/type/playoffs Dammit so the Bears need to finish worse than the Giants and Atlanta to pick 7th. I think its doable but you can never count out the Bears winning meaningless games at the end of the season.
  11. Not that this changes the fact that he was bad, but didn't his stroke in the 80's have a lot to do with his slurred speech, difficulty pronouncing names and general badness?
  12. I was going to say I don't think the Bears have ever hired a re-tread head coach, unless you count GSH rehiring himself several times. Del Rio built some pretty nice defenses in Jacksonville, but he seems more like a DC acting as a HC. He was also known for occasionally wearing a suit during games, so that would be fun to see in December in Chicago.
  13. West record of the top east teams: Raptors: 7-2 (1-1 vs. Top 8) Wizards: 5-1 (1-1 vs. Top 8) Hawks: 3-2 (0-1 vs. Top 8) Bulls: 4-4-1* (2-1-1* vs. Top 8) Cavaliers: 2-6 (0-2 vs. Top 8) Overall 21-15-1* and 4-6-1* vs. the Top 8 in the West *= Loss solely because of Kirk Hinrich and should not be acknowledged as a legit loss to a West team
  14. I'm looking on craigslist and seeing tickets for tonight priced at $25 each. MNF against the Saints on an unseasonably mild December night, and people are selling tickets for 1/4 of what they paid. And that's still not enticing enough for me to buy them and go to the game.
  15. Jed on Bryant next year: "He's probably going to be spending a lot of time in Chicago next year" Definitely looks like he will start in AAA.
  16. Theo: So the media in Chicago is less aggressive than Boston's, but considerably dumber Jon: Sounds great! Jed: ................. More good quotes:
  17. Gotta say, I love Lester getting #34--hopefully it will help some of the false Kerry Wood hero worship from Cubs fans and hopefully ends any chance of it ever being retired for a guy whose on-field stats don't come close to earning that honor. Nothing against Woody, but those are just facts. scorching hot facts Cubs fans overrate Kerry Wood. Not sure what objective measure you can come up with, but I'm about 99% sure it's true. Look, the guy is responsible for 3 or 4 unbelievable moments and 3 or 4 outstanding seasons, but he in no way, shape, or form, deserves to have his number retired, but you'll find people arguing for it. They don't overrate him, they are just more sentimental towards him than they should be for a pitcher with his career numbers. And I understand why. 20K game, coming back to start Game 3 in 98, the multiple one hitters, the occasional big hit, the 03 playoffs which included a win that happened largely because of his pitching and 2 RBI double, winning a deciding game 5 with dominant pitching, and a game tying HR in Game 7 of the NLCS, his multiple returns from career altering injuries, his willingness to adapt to the pen, his love of Chicago and the Cubs organization, the fact that he's the only Cub since the 30's to play on 4 Cubs playoff teams, etc etc.
  18. Hi, I have a question for Jed... How awesome are Jon and Theo?? This is why I never understood why Jed left his GM job in SD to come to the Cubs. I'm not saying he doesn't have an important role in the Cubs FO, but in terms of how he's viewed by fans and media he's Theo's assistant. There are absolutely no questions you could ask Jed that you wouldn't ask Theo instead.
  19. I read somewhere that Cubs GM was going to be at this press conference to announce the signing of the largest contract in Cubs history, but I haven't seen him.
  20. That's pretty close to mine, but I didn't make the Bryant to the OF switch and had Coughlan at a half a win instead of likely 2 wins from Valbuena. I also had Montero closer to his Steamer projection of 2.6, and Lester closer to 5 wins (wishful thinking maybe), and the pen at 4.5
  21. If you hit File -> Make a Copy, it creates an editable copy of the spreadsheet. Best I can do
  22. Kerr is awesome and the Warriors are so awesome to watch. I hope they come out of the west and play the bulls in the finals, although we'll probably get stomped
  23. sneaky this is mostly for you, but how legit is mgoblog and their sources? I am not as in the know on Michigan football as I am in other sports, but I read everyday about how their sources make it seem like there is a ton of communication between harbaugh and um and many sources with ties to michigan that they talk to think he's coming to michigan. But then I go to pretty much any mainstream media and they aren't even talking about it or if they are they are saying harbaugh said he wasn't going back to college. Where is the truth? To me, I want to believe its true but I have a hard time seeing him go back to college. At the same time, the fact that there's been almost no buzz on UM's coaching search and of course no hire, makes me feel like there's no way he's given them a definitive no at this point.
  24. For draft positioning here is how week 15 shook out: Good: Carolina beats TB (we aren't going to pass TB so it's good) Giants beat Washington (same situation here) Bad: Jets beat Tennessee (both teams had same record but jets hold the tiebreaker over us because we beat them H2H) St. Louis loses to Arizona Atlanta loses to Pittsburgh Minnesota loses to Detroit With a loss tomorrow, the 5-9 Bears would be tied with the Giants and Falcons for 7-8-9 picks. If H2H really ends tiebreakers, the Bears can't pass up the Jets, so the only team the Bears could jump beyond NYG and ATL is Washington, who is 3-11. So the best pick we can get is probably 7th.
