  1. wtf
  2. All Dempster jokes aside he probably was...maybe not about the team as much as living and playing in Chicago. Dempster loved being in Chicago and living in Wrigleyville...the dude used to walk or ride his bike to the games. I've passed by him multiple times pushing a stroller with his kid down Addison hours after a game and no one was bugging him at all. Pretty cool and unique environment for a baseball player.
  3. Love Jake Arrieta even more after following him on Twitter...cool dude. Montero seems to have a good twitter presence too.
  4. Lester is 0-36 lifetime as a hitter with 1 walk. We've made a terrible mistake! Also according to Sherman he did not attempt one pickoff throw to 1B last year. Only 21 SB attempts again him though
  5. Hmmm... Jayson Stark @jaysonst Lester's signing bonus is $30 million, paid over the life of the contract, according to a source familiar with the terms. Jayson Stark @jaysonst Other incentives negotiated by Lester & his agents, the Levinsons: Full no-trade and $25M vesting option for 2021 or $10M buyout. (More)... Jayson Stark @jaysonst Sources say Lester's option vests if he pitches 200+ innings in 2020 or 400+ combined in 2019 & 2020. More to come at espn.com
  6. Cubs WS Odds went from 40-1 to 12-1 after signing Lester lol
  7. Do you think Scherzer is going to get about the same contract Price will get next offseason? If so, I'd rather roll the dice on the current rotation next season and prepare to go hard after Price next year. The chances of finding a solid #3-4 type starter from Jackson/Wood/Wade/Turner/Dubront/Straily/Beeler/Jokisch/CJ Edwards are at least decent I would think. If you pair that guy with Lester, Arrieta, Hammel and Hendricks we are looking pretty good.
  8. And he compared Bryant to Giancarlo Stanton and Russell to Larkin. Man it's fun to see people talking up the Cubs. Can Baez at least be a 2B version of Rob Deer?
  9. 2-3 years? The Cubs weren't expecting to compete until 2017-2018? Thank God Lester chose the Cubs
  10. Man I'm looking at the game logs for Lester's postseason in 2013...no its not Madison Bumgarner this playoffs but damn ALDS vs. TB: Game 1 in BOS: 7.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 K ALCS vs. DET: Game 1 in BOS: 6.1 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K Game 5 at DET: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K WS vs. STL: Game 1 in BOS: 7.2 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K Game 5 at STL: 7.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K
  11. Only if they're not smart. Just by waiting a month, you gain an entire year of control. Even if Bryant is worth 2 more WAR (he won't be) than Valbuena, that's about 1/3 of 1 win. Just wait the month. Angering Boras could cost you more long-term, especially if Bryant had a great ST. It's mutually assured destruction. If Boras decides to hold a grudge with the Cubs, he alienates a big market team in the 3rd largest market in the country that is expecting to see its revenues, and likely payroll, rise over the next several years.
  12. TANAKA FUND LIVES!!! And we all made fun of the Cubs for claiming they were rolling over the money. Now instead of bum elbowed Tanaka we have Lester.
  13. Does anyone wonder if this 'accelerated timetable' includes Bryant being up on Opening Day? If they are going for it to some degree of aggressiveness, a month without your top prospect that is ready for the bigs will hurt them.
  14. Cardinal fans reactions are even better: Yeah 5.1 innings pitched away from being 4th in the NL in ERA is pretty decent indeed Weren't they just trying to run Matheny out of town a month ago?
  15. No one tell #PTR, he might reneg on the Lester contract Wait, we're retiring #PTR?
  16. This is like the 73rd most important thing in this, but I wonder if this helps the TV deal negotiations. Cubs making a statment that their games will be must see TV starting this season.
  17. That's my preference as well. Posted in other thread, but I will put it here also since its where the traffic is: Baez, Alcantara, Edwards and a high-ceiling Low A or Rookie level guy for Upton. Too much or too little? People keep forgetting he has the Cubs on his limited 5 team no trade list. Maybe he would waive it, but he did update his list just this offseason and still has the Cubs on it.
  18. I'm sick that one of the first things I did is troll Red Sox forums for bitter reactions For the record the opinion is split almost 50/50 between the above and "Good for Jon, I will root for the Cubs to win the WS if the Sox aren't in it"
  19. That was pre-Lester Anyways judging by the time stamps I went to bed 15 min before the news broke. Figures.
  20. This has just been a great week for Michigan. I don't care that he turned us down just greatly disappointed at the caliber coach we apparently offered the job to.
  21. Hub said he sounded a little jealous of the attention they showed Lester. If he sees them throwing gobs of money at Lester, where they wouldn't extend him at what he deemed a fair price, then of course he's going to be bitter. Gee Russell and Lester or just Shark. Tough call...
