  1. The problem with comparing to American professional sports is: a) 3 of the 4 have a salary cap that limits how much a team can spend and b) all 4 leagues have things like revenue sharing and a talent acquisition process that disproportionately favor the worst teams acquiring the top incoming talent. I could be wrong but english football teams are independent from the leagues they are in and there is no collective bargaining or really any sort of guidelines that ensure that there is competitive balance. Yes they share TV money and probably share some sort of revenue, but its not nearly like US sports. Because of this there is such a disparity between the top teams that print money, and the rest of the league. Plus as pointed out, there are no playoffs where a plucky underdog or a team that beefs up midseason can get hot and win it. It's a balanced schedule of 36 teams that one team has to win. The system is almost set up in a way that ensures that something like LCFC doesn't happen.
  2. I hate it. I really wish there was just one Chicago baseball team. I don't mind having people from other cities hating us, but its annoying that 1/3 of my own city despises the success the Cubs are having.
  3. It's very early May and Pittsburgh weather sucks balls Yeah, school is not out yet, the weather has been bad and Pittsburgh has 1/4 of the population of Chicago to draw from.
  4. With the win last night, Jake will go an entire calendar year without taking a loss in a road game. Last road loss was May 7, 2015 against the Cardinals. The team is 17-1 in the last 18 road games Jake has started since that point. (ND in a loss @ STL on June 26, 2015 was the only loss. Jake gave up 1 run in 7 innings in that game) Also, the Cubs have not trailed at any point in Jake's last 10 regular season starts, and 14 of the last 15 (they were down 1-0 in a game against Philly last September 11th)
  5. http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/15458724/more-ped-busts-coming-major-league-baseball-soon Man, these types of reports make me nervous Please please please no Cubs
  6. Interesting read. I hope this is the Cubs working on his pitch selection and knowing what they are doing.
  7. They should focus on getting to .500 first
  8. This is the first time I've ever thought "Good thing Lester is starting so it guarantees Ross is in the lineup" Not that the other dude didn't have a good game last night, but we're talking about David freaking Ross here.
  9. How is that even possible? Holy hell
  10. Javy and Addy the best defensive left side of IF ever
  11. Fuuuuck. Denying us the first dong of the series.
  12. Our baseball team is of a superior quality and skill level compared to other baseball teams.
  13. Neise was obviously afraid to challenge him causing him to throw it away. Should be an RBI for Dex in my book
  14. Dammit. I feel like we should just put him in the lineup every game for a month and if he doesn't start hitting, he's a bench guy
  15. Come on guy who won't be on the roster in 2 weeks
  16. I have to say, Jake is way too good to be pitching on WPWR
  17. Looks like the Sox DFA'd Danks like 3 years too late
  18. I ride or die with Beilein but what the heck is going on over there. What a strange offseason, 4 transfers, mini-scandal with Spike being refused the right to transfer in the Big Ten, 2 assistants leaving, losing out on that grad transfer we wanted. Maybe nothing is going on, you can make understandable cases for everyone leaving (Spike no PT, Doyle semi forced out/not great fit with Mo's rise late, Dawkins playing with dad, Kam not living up to his top 50 recruit hype, the assistant coaches took HC jobs), but it seems strange that its all happening at once.
