    Even with the Cubs first pick coming at the end of the third round, who wants to bet that this player we draft will have a higher WAR than every 1st round pick (supplemental included) from the Cubs between 2002-2006 combined (1.0 WAR - all from Tyler Colvin)?

    the only sub-par ballparks left in the majors Do the Braves really expect more attendance in the suburbs? Fulton county (where Atlanta is) has like 990,000 people, Cobb county has 730,000 people, but Cobb County actually has a higher population density. You take that plus a more affluent demographic and I'm sure they expect the move have a positive effect, at least in terms of revenue (higher ticket prices, more suites, etc), if not attendance as well

    Don't even get me started on the Braves new park. They are closing a perfectly good ballpark and wasting $400 million of public money on a mediocre looking stadium (that looks a lot like Turner Field) because the demographics are better (read: more white people). I wish there was a way you could airlift the ballpark to a market that needs a new one like Tampa or Oakland.

    I will not create a White Sox thread because they don't deserve it and there's no reason to discuss them when they aren't making a bunch of panic moves, but their latest one was DFA Jimmy Rollins and call up their top prospect Tim Anderson. I don't know a ton about Anderson, but based on the numbers he's put up in the minors, he seems more like a "Brett Jackson" top prospect than a "Kris Bryant" one. Hits for a high average, but low BB% and SLG. Quickly googling his defense, it doesn't seem like he's all that special there as well. He's only 23 so he has a little development to go, but the White Sox aren't exactly known for developing position players, particularly once they get to the major league level.

    Who isn't a treasured sports legend, Ali or Howe? Because you misread my post (or I just worded it badly) if you think I was saying Kimbo Slice is a treasured sports legend. How could that possibly be interpreted any other way than you believe another sports legend must die if I don't think Kimbo qualifies as a legend? My original three was a '3 sports death' thing. In that I clearly stated Kimbo was not on the level of the other 2, but since he was relevant more recently, it was treated as a big enough story to be in a group of 3 deaths (and for the most part when people make these connections, there is usually one that's a stretch to make the theory work). Then you said he's not good enough to be in the group, meaning that Ali and Howe only deserve to have a triumvirate with another treasured sports legend. And my reply said its on you if another treasured sports legend dies because Kimbo was not allowed in this cycle of 3 deaths. I guess I just find it strange that you would think that even the biggest MMA fan ever would consider Kimbo a treasured sports legend, much less one that has never watched an MMA match literally only recognizes his name, Ronda Rousey and Chuck Lidell in the MMA world.

    no you don't get to include Kimbo freaking Slice in this "triumverate" Hah that's fine. I don't even like MMA nor have I watched anything he's been in.     And Gordie Howe dies now, completing a pretty rough trifecta of sports celebrity deaths with Ali and Kimbo Slice (who isn't in the league of Ali or Howe but was relevant more recently and his death was unexpected). Anyways, RIP Howe, truly a great. The most amazing thing about his career IMO was that he retired from the NHL at age 42 in 1971, returned 3 years later, playing 6 seasons in the WHA, then came back to the NHL at age 51 (!!!) to play with his 2 sons and ended up playing 80 games for the Hartford Whalers, tallying 15 goals and 41 total points.

    None of this 2 out of 3 crap. We've only had 1 sweep in our last 9 series (since the 4 game sweep of Washington). Time to put the hammer down on a crappy team that wants to lose anyways.

    They've turned into the 2005-2006 era Cubs Oh man that 2006 team was the absolute nadir of my fandom to be honest. I think it was the excitement of the 2003-2004 teams, the reality of the 2005 team, and ultimate collapse of a garbage team led by one of the least likable managers of all time. I never felt less confident about the people running the Cubs and the lack of any sort of cohesive plan other than "let's just move some parts around and hope it works"

    You know when we were bragging about how much depth we had in March, particularly in the OF, so much so that we had no choice but to trade Coghlan, i really didn't expect us to be trading for an OF in mid June

    Jeez I thought maybe they were just hitting him against lefties and righties without worrying about splits and that was dragging his numbers down. Nope .525 OPS against righties, 1-17 against lefties Maybe he gets back into a groove with Mallee

    Welcome back! and Mendy, sorry it didnt work out, I will always remember the one hit you had in 2015, which was a slow ground ball through a drawn in IF for a walkoff. I will also remember Joe talking about you becoming the Cubs Ben Zobrist, before the Cubs actually went out and got Ben Zobrist. And finally I will remember your 9ish HRs in 2014 making me think you were a piece of the future.
