  1. His doctor cleared him. Theo would not put a player out there if there was a chance he could reinjure himself. It's not like the Cubs *need* Kyle to win the World Series, they won 103 games and the pennant without him. So with that being said, Kyle certainly does improve their chances of winning but not enough that theo would risk rushing him back to play in these games before he was 100% ready.
  2. One more superlative I just thought of: the Cubs have won as playoff series in the previous 2 seasons as they had in the previous 113 years of modern franchise history (1901-2014)
  3. As great of a story it would be for Schwarber to make the roster, I can't help but think LaStella is the better option. I want it to be Schwarber, but he can't play defense and would be a liability on the bases, so it's basically home run or nothing. I won't be surprised at all if the Cubs decide to go the safe route. At worst he's the 25th man on the roster. Rob Z was the 25th man in the NLCS and didn't appear in a game, LaStella was the 25th man in the NLDS and he got 1 PA. Schwarber represents a significantly higher upside player than LaStella so I'm willing to gamble with Kyle for sure.
  4. Probably more like Smoltz resents people comparing him to his good buddy Maddux
  5. Love coming up with weird facts about this: Because of this win, for the first time ever, the Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks and Bulls will all be in season at the same time (regular and postseason, not counting preseason)
  6. I walked by there about 90 mins after the game ended and it was still AC0071108.
  7. Really cool post that has video links to all 7 local Chicago TV stations breaking into their programming to announce the Cubs won the pennant. Also 2 radio stations.
  8. Yeah, you shouldn't need that bench spot for the games in Cleveland with the DH. If he looks lost you could always throw him back on the DL. I do trust him to give you good at-bats, work the count, and make contact even if he isn't locked in. Hopefully he's hitting real pitching again today, tomorrow, and tuesday so he can get as sharp as he can. I believe he can only play 1 more game this week. He's on the AFL "taxi squad" meaning he can only play 2 days a week. Anyways from what I've heard Schwarber was 0-2 with a walk, but one of the outs was a liner that the fielder made a nice play on. He was catching up to the fastball but his timing was off on breaking balls. Overall a pretty positive report.
  9. Full video of the game plus a chunk of on the field celebration [bbvideo=560,315] [/bbvideo]
  10. Just want to say I am currently at the bar that we went to after the last Cubs game I went to with Fred. Vance was there too. Very good omen.
  11. Why would this haveanything to do with Roberts? He must be talking about Bip Roberts, member of the 97 Indians, who never quite got over their World Series loss and has been actively waiting for the Indians to finally win one.
  12. Seems like people have other things on their mind than college football today. This Michigan game is giving me a pleasant distraction and killing time before tonight
  13. Not picking on TT here whose option I highly respect but technically if there is a non-zero chance he comes back now, then there was a non-zero chance whenever we had that discussion.
  14. I imagined it would be Seal Boy, Unless they want to keep the extra pitcher (Z). I figured the plan was to bring Seal Boy back after they didn't need the extra lefty out of the pen. I would think it's more likely they bring Szczur to the active roster. Extra OF since Schwarber wouldn't be able to play the field and Szczur is right handed instead of LaStella or Coghlan, lefthanders.
  15. I didn't think there was any possible way that I would want the Cubs to make the WS more than I already did, but here we are. Would be so amazing to see Schwarbs take an AB in the World Series after his first full MLB season was robbed from him, I don't care what the result.

  17. We started spring 2004. I did post on Cubs.com before that as sanclementefan, though. I remember my first post was about an hour before Game 2 of the 2003 NLDS. One of my first arguments was someone telling me how wrong I was because I thought Juan Cruz would never be a starter due to his skinny frame, and then I remember there was a thread for predicting Shawn Estes' ERA in Colorado and yours (Tims) was the lowest predicted ERA. I pointed out that if he had that ERA it would be like the 5th best ERA in Rockies history to that point, and you responded "hmm can I change my answer". I remember feeling really cool that I was able to point that out to the site founder.
  18. Well you are indirectly right because Hoyer's injury probably forces Cutler back into the lineup which will mean we will probably squeak out 1-2 more wins than we should get hurting our draft pick.
  19. Is this you not knowing who Seal Boy is or not knowing that LaStella isn't on the roster? Or him still thinking you could add and remove players from the playoff roster at will, including in the middle of a Clayton Kershaw pitch.
