  2. McDermott is certainly not better at avoiding concussions. Niko is Niko. Occasionally he gets hot and hits some shots.
  3. The Cubs, Dodgers and Nationals have won 11 of the last 12 "Big Four" awards for the NL. The only exception is deGrom winning ROY for the Mets in 2014. In a further monopoly of these awards here were the "finalist" teams for the Big 4 awards this season: MOY: Dodgers, Cubs, Nationals ROY: Dodgers, Nationals, Dodgers Cy Young: Nationals, Cubs, Cubs MVP: Cubs, Nationals, Dodgers
  4. and even better, the cubs won the world series so I really don't give a horsefeathers how their season goes. I'll get to relax and have fun watching them Wait until they go undefeated into whatever your house of horrors is and lose on a last second shot then we'll see how relaxed you still are ;)
  5. I said cover your ears dorks.
  6. Cover your ears hockey haters. Reminds me of Toews racking up accolades at a young age. ROY, Conn Smythe, Stanley cup, gold medal, top forward in Olympics

  8. i thought for sure when he hadnt signed yet and then announced he was going to speak today regarding his future that he was going elsewhere.
  9. The thing that annoys me is comparing Hendricks and Scherzer based the argument "Scherzer pitches more effectively late into games", which doesn't appear to be true. First of all if you look at IP per start, Hendricks is at roughly 6.1 IP per start, Scherzer at 6.2 IP per start. Now look at the effectiveness later in starts Hendricks vs. batter 3rd PA in a start: .214/.263/.358/.622 Scherzer vs. batter 3rd PA in a start: .246/.297/.447/.743 Both pitched to a batter for the 4th time less than 25 PAs this year so the sample doesn't really give you anything. How about by IP Hendricks in 7th-9th innings: .194/.242/.387/.629 Scherzer in 7th-9th innings: .250/.284/.474/.758 So yeah Hendricks did pitch late into games less (Max pitched at least 7 IP 20 times, Hendricks only 7 times), but when he did he was more effective than Scherzer.

  11. Hardball times makes a case for David Ross as the best backup catcher since WW2 http://www.hardballtimes.com/an-elegy-for-david-ross-the-greatest-backup-catcher-of-his-generation/
  12. I'm glad verlander didn't win just to see Kate Upton flip out on Twitter Edit: beaten
  13. Scherzer wins Cy Young Bryant better win tomorrow
  14. Apparently rondo can take his time coming back
  15. I was randomly going through B-R's play index to see who led various categories in Cubs postseason history, felt compelled to share: HR: 4 tied at 5 (Rizzo, Bryant, Schwarber, Fowler) RBI: Addison Russell (14) Hits: Dexter Fowler (28) Doubles: Dexter Fowler (7) Walks: Sammy Sosa (13 - Bryant with 12) HBP: Anthony Rizzo and Frank Chance (3) K: Kris Bryant (33) AB: Dexter Fowler (108)
  16. They've had very good teams during that period. It's not going to take 6-7 years to be good again. This isn't baseball. I have no idea what you mean by "haven't even started trying to find their QB". It doesn't do you any good to get your QB and throw him to the wolves with a horsefeathers team. It's much better to have a very good offensive line and solid weapons and then add a QB. Dak Prescott wouldn't be doing dick without the team he lucked into. With regards to 6-7 years thing, I just get a Browns vibe with this team. That viewpoint and thus my exaggerated timeline could change quickly but I don't trust the people in charge nor do i trust the people who are in charge of the people in charge to make the right moves to build a solid team. With regards to QB, some teams have to try 3-4 different "QBs of the future" before they finally hit on one. Some teams get lucky and grab a Dak Prescott. But until we finally start auditioning QBs we are running in place with regards to future prospects. Obviously this will start this offseason, but its still frustrating that we haven't drafted a QB with starter potential since it became clear that Jay probably was not going to be the long term guy leading our next contender. Also the offensive line is not Cowboys caliber, but it's good enough when healthy to not derail a young QB's development.
  17. It's just insane how awful the Bears have been since 1994ish. 94-04 they were mostly terrible but like any non-Browns franchise, eventually every team will luck themselves into a decent run once they get enough draft picks and a quasi competent coach. So the Bears competing period netted them 3 playoff appearances over a 9 year period. Now they suck again and it looks like it might be another 6-7 years until they luck themselves into something that resembles a quality team. Yes I know in the NFL teams can turn it around quickly, but there seems to be total dysfunction throughout the organization. They haven't even started trying to find their QB and they don't have the right coach which are two pieces that are essential for any sort of positive momentum. What a mess...when I was like 17-18 years old, I could still follow shitty sports teams on a day to day basis but not sure if I have the energy to follow a team that's building toward nothing (in contrast to the Cubs recent rebuild)
  18. I started out 0-4 despite being like 10 points off the pace for most points scored in the league (see endless bitching on page 1). Since then I've gone 5-1 and am somehow 1 game out of 1st place in the league and still second in the league in points (although now trailing the first team by about 150 points My RB trio is now Elliott, Gordon and Gurley/Kelley (man can't believe how bad Gurley is). My WR foursome is basically Allen Robinson and 3 waiver wire quality guys each week but somehow I always seem to get at least 2 passable performances out of the group (this week it was Jamison Crowder, Ty Montgomery and Dontrelle Inman). Anyway its turned out to be a relatively fun season and I seem fairly likely to make the playoffs.
  19. Resign Fowler Force Otani to be posted and win the bidding Sign Jansen Offseason over 2017 season over PTR forever over
  20. I need some hockey minds that have been following more closely to confirm. Obviously they are playing like a beast right now and that's super encouraging but I do remember reading that they were winning despite poor CORSI/possession numbers which screams a bit of regression is due. I'm still wary of their overall depth with so many rookies and that this will eventually hurt them as the season goes on (not to the point of missing the playoffs or anything, just to the point where they aren't taking points in every single game).
  21. Yeah for someone else
  22. All the more reason why announcing your schedule before the previous concludes is moronic. How is it not the ring ceremony at Wrigley? In whatever year the Nationals opened their new park, the MLB actually moved a Nats-Braves game scheduled for later in the year to Sunday Night Baseball before Opening Day so they could show 1st game at the park. I was hoping they would find a way to do something like this for the Cubs. I mean I know I'm a homer, but I would think having the entire attention of the baseball world and showing the Cubs first game at Wrigley since winning the title would be a huge draw. I guess its possible the Cubs requested that not to happen just in case their offseason rennovation work wasn't done in time.
  23. I know he's having a down year, but I would put Alshon in there. Possibly Amos I'm not putting Alshon on there because he's on the franchise tag and there doesn't seem to be a lot of positive signs for him being here long term. With regards to Amos, I liked him last year. Admittedly I've watched and followed the Bears as lightly as I ever have this year and I haven't heard much about him either way this year. Edit: Also because of the PEDs
  24. Rumors that Speight is out for the year with a broken collarbone. Great timing right 2 weeks before the OSU game...
