Hawks are screwed. The NHL needs to do something about the cap...I realize that it's based on revenue, but you need to figure out a way to either plan it out over a 3-5 year period so teams can plan for it, or get rid of the hard cap. The Hawks signed Toews and Kane to these giant 8 year extensions with no way of knowing that the cap was going to come screeching to a halt. Now one of the NHL's most marketable teams has to continually shed talent because the Canadian economy went in the tank (among many other reasons the cap has flattened out). How are teams supposed to approach signing their top stars to long term deals when they have no idea what the cap will look like in even 3 years? Yes I'm bitching about this only because its hurt my favorite team and it probably wouldnt even be on my radar if it didn't, but since it is on my radar, it does seem like a major issue with the NHL CBA.
