  1. In the month of August we've had games where we've score 16, 15, 10, 13, 17 and 15 (so far) runs
  2. I hate Happ batting 5th but I can't really suggest anyone available that would be a better fit. Edit: of course after I say this he gets an RBI hit
  3. i don't know horsefeathers about any of the leagues transactional intricacies. thank god mlb barely has anything resembling a salary cap at least. i thought that if multiple teams put a claim on the same player, the team with the lowest winning percentage wins (without getting into tiebreakers and such) True, but NL before AL. Would be funny if our decent but not great season (with respect to expectations) allowed us to snag this randomly good reliever that was put on irrevocable waivers. But if you look at the standings currently the only teams I could see claiming him over the Cubs are the Brewers and Cardinals. I guess it's possible the Brewers pass on him because they are cheap and the Cardinals pass on him because they really did put up a white flag trading Leake, but more than likely one of those 2 teams will take them, even if only to keep him from the Cubs. Also the Marlins I guess could claim him but they are owned by cheap ass Loria and in the middle of an ownership change so not sure if they add that much salary.
  4. Anyone want Juan Nicasio? For free? http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/instagraphs/anyone-want-a-good-reliever-for-free/ Sounds like they are doing this to save $600k. FWIW, he has been worth more than Wade Davis this year in terms of fWAR (or any other Cubs pitcher besides Jake, Hendricks and Lester)
  5. Point made from Dave Cameron
  6. I guess not, he was a 2-3 win pitcher annually. I just remember mocking them because that was what they used their savings from not resigning Lackey and Heyward on so in my mind it was ridiculous but I guess quite reasonable looking at the value of a win. It might be ridiculous now however since he's only been worth 1.4 wins in his almost 2 years as a cardinal.
  7. Good deal for the Cardinals...Mike Leake horsefeathering sucks, has a 7 ERA over his last 10 starts and they get out of the 3 years and $53 million remaining on that ridiculous contract. Are they clearing money to make a run at Stanton in the offseason? Or...Jake (please dont let my dreams come true)?
  8. Cool, I'm looking forward to reading it after you post it in November (if you know whats good for you)
  9. Do they have the ability to have a gigantic payroll? I know in recent years its been super low while they rebuilt (similar to the Cubs), but if they can only really afford a middle of the road payroll, do they want to make their big FA investment a 7-8 year deal for a 31 year old SP? I guess they might not have a choice if they don't win the WS this year and need pitching in a weak FA pitching market.
  10. Rangers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yeah thought about the Rangers. Would definitely make sense. Texas boy, team that needs pitching and has made questionable FA investments in the past. I just really hope he goes to the AL. I really don't want to have to see Jake every year/have Jake stand in our way of advancing in the playoffs.
  11. know i'm sidetracking the thread here, but did you literally have this dream/nightmare? i'm always amazed by people who seeming have "normal" or "coherent" dreams. like, my dreams (i rarely remember them) are normally SUPER weird and don't really make sense. occasionally i'll have one that (barely) makes sense and features real people but for the vast majority of times it's just like some crazy alternate world with a stream of crazy images and characters and content and i wake up and i'm like "wtf was that all about daniel?" i mean it's not like i'm doing anything wrong in them, but, there're just...weird [i need one person to like this post to ensure i'm not a crazy person dreamer] ... [or a legit crazy person] Yes, was a legit dream haha. I don't have vivid recognizable dreams every night, or if I do I forget them quickly but every so often (lets say 1-2 times a month) I have a dream that sticks in my head for longer than 1-2 minutes after waking up. When big sporting events are upcoming I frequently dream about them. During the 2016 season I had so many dreams where I was watching playoff games half the time they choked and lost and the other half they were up big and about to advance to the World Series or something and I woke up.
  12. I had a dream last night that the Cardinals signed Jake and then he started retweeting or responding positively to every Trump tweet. Ok it was a nightmare. But in all seriousness, who would Jake's suitors be? There's only a handful of teams that can probably pay him what he's asking. The Red Sox have invested a lot in pitching in recent years so I think they are out. The Yankees are a legit possibility. The Dodgers have seventy bajillion pitchers and a payroll higher than many counties GDP but they are never out. I'm guessing if the Cardinals were big spenders this offseason it would be for hitting but never dismiss them making a reckless FA signing out of spite. Actually, to be honest this totally seems like the type of move the Angels would come out of nowhere to make.
  13. Man Uehara has been awful since coming back (and immediately before leaving)
  14. I never noticed the Avila getting out of the way of strikes thing until it was pointed out and now that's all I see and it's driving me insane
  15. Hilarious Royals impression guys now let's get serious and score some runs
  16. Grimm is technically on the DL right? And its probably not a fake injury because he has options and has already gone down to Iowa a couple of times. Just pointing that out because we don't know for sure (unless I missed some news because who pays attention to news about Justin Grimm) if he's healthy to come up on 9/1.
  17. I guess we will be seeing more of Trubisky on Thursday. Mark Sanchez not playing could mean 2 very different things: 1) Mark Sanchez is getting cut 2) Mitch Trubisky is going to start the season 3rd on the depth chart Or I guess it doesn't have to mean Mitch is 3rd, and they just want him to get more reps.
  18. Side note - I'm mad that Happ is doing this "interview after HR thing" because it hurts the image I have of Happ being a soulless serial killer
