  1. no Junior Lake love? (Teammates' reaction to Lake's first hit as a Blue Jay, which was a home run.)
  2. This. Please don't ruin the only forum worth following.
  3. I think high-leverage/WPA type analysis is going to be one of the last stat-head realms to conquer. Sure, its insanely noisy, but there is probably a lot of approach/nerves data burried under all the noise. The task is going to be finding a smart way to quantify the effect, and then correlating it to some other stat with larger sample sizes, or scoutable player traits. Then maybe the conclusion is that its just overfitting noise, but I suspect there is something there to be found.
  4. I have an inkling as to what Contreras was up to there, but when I did (what I think he had to do) in a similar situation, I at least had to pause to vomit. Well played Willie!
  5. If I don't poop proptly when its my turn, its because I'm on vacation and someone else can poop for me.
  6. I think this is an amazing idea. I also think that whatever team has the worst record in baseball should have to spend the next season playing most of their games on the road, with occasional games in goofy places like London/Mexico City/Las Vegas/San Juan/Seoul as home games. Or just the Cardinals could do that. Whatever.
  7. Eh, neither of them are any good, so I'm not going to get too worked up over it. Given that Almora's biggest defensive strength is his reads/routes, not his speed, I'm fine with CarGo's experience in that outfield, especially because he isn't totally terrible defensively (though definitely moving in that direction). Another start for Caratini, though with Darvish on the mound this is more where you expect him. He obviously isn't going to keep up a 1065 OPS, but if he keeps hitting the ball well I wonder if they play around with Contreras in the outfield for a game or two just in case we need it at some point. I also wonder if ultimately our best alignment has KB in RF, some depressing Almora/Heyward platoon in center, and then Bote and Russell both in the infield. What does it matter that Almora's defensive range/value is caused by reads or speed? I'll also point out thatAlmora has already made some magic at Coors. [bbvideo=560,315] [/bbvideo]
  8. I get that Cargo played in Coors for forever and all that, and I'm definitely not an Almora truther, but I think Coors is most especially a place where you need Almora's defense in the outfield much more than whatever batting advantages Cargo might provide.
  9. I'll be at the Monday and Tuesday games. Both sure wins.
  10. Man, we do a lot of complaining about our bats as a team, and we have 6 hitters with wOBAs north of .350. The Cards have 2, and barely so.
  11. You see a lot of things on cocaine. http://66.media.tumblr.com/80935bce0aefcab46dba74164879cac1/tumblr_n40jr0XyWT1smcbm7o1_400.gif
  12. Cishek about to K these bums with his approach and driving accuracy game.
  13. I mean, if he throws strikes and still gives up walks, can you blame him?
  14. I think the only way to explain the Bader walk is white privilege.
