  2. If Yelich saves that one, does Leyland leave Clippard in to toss meatballs?! Wtf.

  4. What is crazy about Baez is...there were times early on this year where Baez was so intensely amazing at 3B defensively that some here were ready to push Bryant somewhere into the OF against lefties...and I didn't think they were completely crazy. Maddon did it a fair amount and no one blinked an eye...and now all the defensive highlights I can remember are him at 2B. I mean hell, remember this (at 3:20)?! [bbvideo=560,315] [/bbvideo]Are there any other 3B in the league that make that play? Arrenado and Machado MAYBE?
  5. So he hit that at least how far, 430?!

  7. I didn't get what was going on until i hit Rey McSriff. Mike Truk and Willie Dustice is too much.
  8. That game is my first "Cubs on TV" memory, and is probably the reason Dawson is my favorite Cub of all time.

  10. I rarely get to see the Cubs apart from once a year in Coors field, so these two are the ones that stand out: Sosa hit 3 3-run HRs in back to back to back innings, and then Dusty killed all the fun by pulling him from the game for no reason at all: http://a.espncdn.com/mlb/news/2002/0810/1416636.html And Fowler pwning Hawkins a few years ago (strange that Pat is more excited here than in the entire playoff run last year): [bbvideo=560,315]http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/11493214/v71531283/must-c-clutch-fowler-hits-goahead-homer-in-the-9th[/bbvideo] Also, I brought a friend to a game who knew nothing about baseball. Late in the game someone hit a meaningless HR. My friend didn't know how to handle the roar of the crowd, so he threw his seat cushion onto the field. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/baseball/fans-toss-cushions-on-to-field-1.393725 Also of note, Prior went yard (oppo) in that game, his first HR, and I totally called it just before he hit it.
  11. 30 minutes ago: I forgot it is not possible to shoot the breeze about things on this website everyone must have their armor up and their guns out. Dang.
  12. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/j-d-martinez-debunks-conventional-wisdom-thinks-a-tipping-point-is-near/ LOL, I love the part where they're like "but Max Kepler doesn't agree." Oh. Can we get Max Kepler in here to let us know his thoughts on Heyward's new swing? Inquiring minds!
  13. I suppose that those dudes should be allowed to do whatever they want, but that stuff is just so childish. I'm not surprised at the names of players who stuck up for the practices. And while dressing up the newcomers as cheerleaders might be fine in a vacuum, it is going to get emulated by kids (which Arrieta hints at), and I think most of us here have seen how swiftly out of hand things like this can get. Simply no need for it.
  14. THAT is the part that I'm concerned about. Maddon isn't admitting that he completely horsefeathers the bed in games 6 and 7. You can't learn from mistakes if you aren't recognizing their existence. Yes. We won the World Series. We were and are all very very pumped. But this board never stuck me a completely results-oriented, ends justify the means, stick-with-what-got-you-there hug fest. Are we seriously going to just repeat "we won the World Series" when Maddon very nearly kept that from happening with gross over-management?
  15. "The manager won some games for the Cubs last season with his mad-scientist mixing and matching, but he almost killed a dream season – and his reputation – by overusing Chapman in the World Series. That he refuses to say he was wrong should make Cubs fans nervous going forward." Can't disagree with that one, myself.
  16. I'm confused by this stance. Is it because: 1) You don't want the Mets to have an additional asset. - meh, I'm not really threatened by the Mets, but I can see not wanting good things for other teams. 2) Not wanting athlete's of other sports thinking they can just "pick-up" baseball. - as long as you felt the same way about Jordan, I'm ok with this. or is this 3) or simple dislike of Tim Tebow? - I don't understand those who feel this way. Some people over-rated him/He got too much attention for his talent level, but I didn't see him do anything worthy of the hate some people have for him. I don't have any particular love for Tebow, but I don't wish him any ill will. not wanting him to make the majors isn't exactly hoping he dies of cancer tomorrow. jesus, the guy went to college for free and played in the nfl. he doesn't need anyone's sympathy. Try not being a Kanye fan in the music thread...
  17. Indians showing some new WS celebration footage I've not yet seen. If only the rest of our central rivals were as decent as the Indians' TV crew. ...although, how could they have not known the ball hit the camera on that 8th inning HR?! There was even a lego version of that I saw.
  18. I missed the first two ABs Heward had...but that third AB was p1ss poor. Javy is spraying the ball all over. Baez man. Baez.
  19. Baez is going to be a 4-5 WAR player THIS YEAR if they let him play 2B every day. That was sick...and routine for him.
  20. As soon as I saw and heard the contact, I started laughing maniacally. Apart from game 7, this or the Montero grandslam were the moments of the playoffs for me. Not even in the top 20?!
  21. If I had won the World Series, I would have done the exact same thing. Maybe would included a little image Derek Law crying just under the S in CHAMPIONS. Just saying.
  22. Had to listen to this on the radio because of work and it's a wonder I didn't crash my car with all the yelling and fist-pumping I was doing. That comeback was such a unique sports feeling. The actual game was like a depressing kick in the nuts and for worthless pessimists like me, I was already over the game for an hour or so and mentally preparing for a do or die Game 5 when all the sudden we went from that to 'oh yeah the series is over' in the span of 20 minutes. I mean Game 7 had a similar emotional roller coaster to a greater degree of course, but this was more like I was dreading having to wait 2 days with my stomach in knots for this do or die game and then all the sudden the weight is completely lifted. I think I'm pretty even keel, so I was spending some effort trying to make bets with various irrationally pessimistic Cub fans...
  23. It's a real shame that a majority of people won't think to themselves "man, what could have been!" in that game 7... ...are you serious?!
  24. They already did Montero last year. If you want pain, you can just watch drunk Bill Murray interview J-Hey in the clubhouse after the World Series on a loop.
