  1. Bat handles are so skinny these days that it isn't that hard to do
  2. Lou's use of the pen really leaves nice wins tasting like Grape Nuts. I hate Grape Nuts.
  3. Shark was up at the end of last inning He shouldn't pitch, there is no reason why Eyre can't finish this out but whatever. or marshall or someone who doesn't pitch much. if you're not gonna use back of the bullpen guys with a 6 run lead then what's the point of even having them on the team? Agreed. Not only does it unnecessarily strain the pen, but it makes it harder for Eyre to get any consistency going when he isn't it the game. I bet Lou just forgot about him. I am sure this has been discussed, but the % of Cub fans at Miller Park is above 10-20 right?
  4. Yep. I was at practice today. Kreutz looked fine. Williams still watched. Tommie Harris limped to the practice field. Is he still hurt? I have been a Bears fan all my life, but have never been to a game, so this was the first time that I have seen the team in action. It was pretty neat. The TE Davis is an extremely large man. Olsen was a lot bigger than I had imagined. Hester is really small. It was quite the sight to see exactly how far Maynard can punt the ball. The sound that it makes coming off of his foot is about three times louder than anything I had heard before. If Orton gets the starting role, does he have the arm strength to get the ball to Hester deep? Hester signed a hefty contract, but he isn't going to go over the middle. He has to be the deep threat, but do we have a deep threat type of QB with Orton? Listened to Boers and Bernstein live. Terry was pretty sweaty and smelly.
  5. I didn't mind Lee being sent home. While the Cubs were hitting Sabathia, you have to take chances against him because he has been pitching so well. Quade did get cold feet with Fontenot though. Soriano looked quick stealing 3rd, but he looks terrible running in the outfield and to second base. Why is that?
  6. The Weeks DP was as easy as it gets, Yes Johnson was coming down on him but he still had time to make the throw and he threw it to Green Bay. It was not as easy as it gets and you just admitted it. It could have been easier if Weeks wouldn't have taken the throw right in front of the bag or if the ball was hit harder or if Johnson doesn't take him out. It was a good play by Johnson and his hard work resulted in two runs. The time issue had nothing to do with it. If he waited to throw, the throw would have been harder because Weeks would have been on the ground. But why is Weeks even playing?
  7. The Weeks DP miss was not easy at all. He had to dive for that one. The DP error that Lee almost hit into could go either way. He could have gotten a hit, or hit into a DP. Johnson made a great slide - tell your 2B not to stand directly in front of the bag when another player is barreling down on you. The call on Hardy was inconclusive from every angle that I saw it on. If the Brewers are the better team, they should capitalize on those calls/plays. All that "if...." type of excuse-making is embarrassing.
  8. Jeff just might be the bullpen arm that is needed. A solid righty who can throw in the upper 90's is a nice little shot in the arm.
  9. He must not be trying cause he has been able to run while he was on the DL. Seriously, what the heck was that?
  10. If Hester can return like he has been and can be a good #1 receiver, that contract isn't bad. I am surprised he took such an incentive loaded deal, but he still is going to make good money.
  11. You can get lit up in the big leagues throwing 98 if it is straight, over the plate, and if you don't have something off-spead to go with it. Bit I hear Jeff has a changeup and a splitter.
  12. Rumor has it (Mike Mulligan) that Hester's agent started negotiating near Berrian's contract. That's a touch high for Hester.
  13. That ball that Castillo threw hit the fan in the forehead. He is really lucky that so far he doesn't seem to be too seriously injured. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-080725-peoria-chiefs-brawl-chicago-cubs,0,3356474.story
  14. Has Walt Joketty said anything about it since he was there?
  15. So Canning could still get it?
  16. The Dayton paper makes Castillo look worse than he was by mentioning that he threw at three people, four if you include the dugout. Now pjstar agrees. The guy needs to be at the least suspended for the season and kicked off the team.
  17. The Peoria version doesn't mention that Castillo wizzed a pitch by a third guy's head. Did that happen or not?
  18. So he hit 4 people in total. I think he hit two actually. One in the helmet that took that player out for the game, another, and wizzed another by a guy's head which started the big brawl.
  19. Did the umps warn anyone? Castillo hit a guy in the helmet, hit another guy, and then hit a third. Were there warnings? Castillo should have been thrown out after hitting the second guy.
  20. If the Bears don't want to pay him number one receiver money, they shouldn't have said in the offseason that he was their number one. With that said, being a number one Bears receiver isn't worth much!
  21. I wouldn't have spent that kind of money of Berrian either. He wasn't even close to being worth it. Are there any good WR free agents out there next year?
  22. Hester can't afford to lose 15k every day for missing practice can he? Plus if he is going to be a decent WR, he has got to be at practice to learn the plays and develop.
  23. Like not winning a playoff game in 12 years. Do we rate owners by how much money they make, or by how successful their teams are? 1 usually follows 2, so I guess you can say the Bears ownership isn't capitalizing if they are only middle of the pack in profit. But they Bears have been inconsistent lately which doesn't help.
