  1. How exactly is Cairo different than Jose Macias? Cairo: .251/.296/.324 in 327 at bats Macias: .254/.274/.316 in 177 at bats He's about the become the Yankees problem, anyway.
  2. I'd rather have Tejada for this reason: If we have Tejada, we have one of the best offensive players in the game at a position that is lacking good offensive players. With Tejada, we can go out and afford Milton Bradley, those positions would offset and we'd have one of the best lineups in baseball. In my opinion Tejada+Bradley is better than Abreu+Cedeno.
  3. The only concern about trading for Tejada is that he can demand a trade after next year if traded, and if we don't meet those demands he can become a free agent on March 15. That's exactly what Javier Vazquez did this year. That would be crucial, I would have to be 100% sure he wouldn't do that if we traded for him. 1) I would give up Pie + Hill + Williams for Tejada, that would be a good value trade for both teams. I wouldn't even mind giving up Cedeno as well, Tejada is that good. 2) Sign Pierre to an extension before arbitration (3 years), so we have him for this season plus two more (Only do this if Pie is given up which would be likely) 3) Trade Walker for Bradley 4) Sign Tony Graffanino to play 2nd New lineup: CF Juan Pierre 2B Tony Graffanino 1B Derrek Lee 3B Aramis Ramirez SS Miguel Tejada RF Milton Bradley LF Matt Murton C Michael Barrett Hello World Series?
  4. mlbtraderumors.com (I know, I know....don't shot the messenger) mention the D'backs could offer Josh Kroeger for Corey. I don't know who the kid is...so if somebody knows....It would be a stuggling OF (Kroeger is 22, which could peak my interests, a little bit) for a struggling OF... The advantage is that he's young and most likely making $316,000. Any deal that nets that for Corey, I take it.
  5. How would anyone be against .271/.371 out of the #2 spot?
  6. Same.
  7. I was going to reply: "Or maybe how the Cubs non-Sabermetric approach leads to both regular season and post-season mediocrity" But then I figured, You have to be good in the regular season to actually be set up to fail in the postseason.
  8. The popularity of Sabermetrics continue to grow at a near exponential rate, and since the publication of "Win Shares" and "Moneyball", there has been a change in the philosophy of major league front offices that has resulted in an increase in the ability of small market teams to compete and field profitable teams. The evolution of Sabermetrics have helped not only small market teams compete (the Billy Beane era in Oakland and the never-ending story of the Atlanta Braves) at a playoff-calibre level, but also directly put an end to the World Series curse in Boston in 2004.

The popularity of Sabermetrics continue to grow at a near exponential rate, and since the publication of "Win Shares" and "Moneyball", there has been a change in the philosophy of major league front offices that has resulted in an increase in the ability of small market teams to compete and field profitable teams. The evolution of Sabermetrics (three main points here)...
  10. I've been there before and I really didn't find a whole lot of stuff that would be helpful in my paper.
  11. Erstad for Javy Lopez? http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-angels9dec09,1,2889308.story?coll=la-headlines-sports&ctrack=1&cset=true
  12. I'm doing a research paper for school on Sabermetrics and the importance of them and how they've helped certain teams compete with high spending teams. That said, do you have any other ideas that I could write about? I need to stay way from factual stuff, ex. What is Win Shares, Park Effects, etc... I need to have a thesis statement done by tomorrow and I don't have a whole lot of things that I could use in an essay map.
  13. Career .350 OBP. That's all you need to be high on a certain player. Hit Bradley 2, 5, 6, etc.. and you know he'll perform. That's the kind of player the Cubs need (note I said nothing about the player as a person).
  14. I think Detroit might want to get in on this, Patterson in LF.
  15. I would have thought it'd be posted here already, I've seen at various Tigers message boards that he's headed to Detroit for 2/16.
  16. Soriano's road splits: .224/.265 Ha. Jim Bowden is one of the worst GM's in the league, and now Soriano is going from one of the best hitters parks to one of the worst. Wilkerson's road splits were actually worse than his home splits, not real surprising because he wasn't a huge power guy last year (injury), but his fantasy value just skyrocketed now that he's in Texas. Home: .236/.367 Away: .257/.337 Sledge 3-yr. Road splits: .286/.355 What a fricken steal by the Rangers. It amazes me how overrated Soriano is and how some actual baseball GMs can be so stupid.
  17. Texas got the best player -- maybe two players -- in this deal.
  18. yup. But there's nothing wrong with Walker, either.
  19. Moot point I think...Clemens wouldn't be interested in Chicago.
  20. Cubs | More On Pierre Trade Wed, 7 Dec 2005 00:20:00 -0800 Clarifying and updating a previous item, cubs.MLB.com's Carrie Muskat is reporting the Chicago Cubs have acquired OF Juan Pierre and an unnamed pitching prospect from the Florida Marlins in exchange for Double-A pitching prospects Ricky Nolasco and Renyel Pinto. Cubs P Sergio Mitre is not considered part of this trade. KFFL.com That would change things quite a bit...No Mitre, plus we get someone else?
  21. I really don't think we gave up anyone that will amount to a whole lot. Mitre hasn't shown me anything at the major league level, and he's had plenty of chances. Nolasco and Pinto were only mediocre prospects to me right now, and they had both fallen from "top prospect" status from maybe two years ago. If they keep falling, we'd have ended up getting absolutely nothing for them.
  22. I would be satisfied with Lugo, Huff and Wilkerson if we kept Walker as well.
  23. I don't get it either. I personally like guys like Lugo, Wilkerson, Bradley because they're really capable of hitting anywhere in the lineup, #1 or #2, #5-#8 (assuming 3/4 is set with Lee/Ramirez). What I don't think the Cubs understand is that speed doesn't equal leadoff hitter. A prime example of that is the Cubs interest in Gathwright. He's fast, but he's not a leadoff hitter. Get someone like Wilkerson and plug him in the leadoff spot and we'll be fine. We've never been a running team anyway, at least Wilkerson gets on base and we need people on base to be successful, obviously.
  24. And to Tigers fans everywhere, Javier Vazquez is their new favorite player. Granderson and Zumaya? I wouldn't have thought the Tigers would have done that for Beckett. Only way I see that possible is if Glaus was included. That could have been disaster for Detroit.
  25. Austin Kearns - OF - Reds Cubs GM Jim Hendry said today that he hasn't had any discussions with the Reds regarding one of the team's outfielders. There were radio rumors today about Austin Kearns being offered to the Cubs for Sergio Mitre and another pitcher. This makes it seem as though there were no truth to them.
