Jets select Alabama S/DB Mark Barron. I really like Nick Perry as a prospect, but Barron is the best safey in this draft by miles and miles. Plug him in with Landry and the Jete have the best set of DB talent in the NFL no contest. Almost logged 40 starts in Nick Saban's D and has been arguably their best DB in his 3 starting seasons. No safety in this class coordinates and communicates with the other DBs better, no one has the physicality + the experience + the success, and few have actually made as many plays against the pass than him. I think he's an 8+ year starter in his league and in the quality defenses. Plus, I think on skill alone he's one of the 15 or 20 best players in this draft. The 4.55 while not 100% pretty much clinched it, as did the 38" vert and something else I'm forgetting. Plus, Rex Ryan gets/likes his DBs because it's all about stopping the pass now. They know how to stop the run, but the way they lost those two AFCCGs (Colts passing in the 2nd half, Steelers running in the first half) and last year's dropoff (slight) on D can be explained by the safety play/talent on the roster. Pretty much the ideal pick here even on draft day for me. It'd end up being between Barron and Cox for me, and I'd go with the interior pass rusher. Cox is a reeeeeeally nice talent man and I'm surprised he's still on the board at all. Cox and Brockers have major upside, and I think Cox is both more likely to reach it and more of what the Cowboys might be looking for. Then again, they might need the anchor Brockers might turn out to be...Hmm...that is interesting, but I'd go Cox. I think people are sleeping so hard on Barron...For a guy most are labeling as a SS he played alot of centerfield in college and made an awful lot of plays on the ball (13 INTs, 34 PD).

Not a huge fan of Pineda either, but I'm surprised at his size. He's almost a 300 pounder! Built like an OT. Breaking stuff is filthy too, and at this point the changeup is underrated and has strong potential long term. I'm more on the fence with this move than I thought I would be, especially since Montero seems legit.

Completely missed that. Arizona Cardinals finally pick Riley Reiff OT Iowa. Their OL talent legitimately is unimpressive, which is depressing because Nick Perry would really work well here. A DL with Campbell and Perry as bookends and Dockett + whoever in the middle...oh well....plus like those two he offers some positional versatility as I think he is the 2nd best DE/OLB in this draft after Ingram.

Don't disagree. I thought they did a good job with the starting pitching this offseason without spending much at all. This is exactly the kind of rotation that can carry a team for half of a regular season. I do think Shark is going to have a surprisingly promising season. Wish I saw more/any of his ST starts.

Not UK but yes. Gausman might have the uber rare RH out pitch change. If he finds his breaking stuff then you're looking at a guy who has similar stuff to Clay Buchholz at his best.

Wanted to post this much earlier but I had a very dramatic meltdown witnessed by many. Seen Wacha a few times and the guy that comes to mind with him is Dan Haren with a change up rather than splitter. Will he have Haren's control? Probably not. UK, any thoughts on Hunter Virant? I'm really high on this guy in this draft. Does he have a chance to pass Fried or is just that not happening?

Wow, what a stupid mistake for an experienced guy like Duquette to make. They really just can't get it right...even guys like Weiters and Matusz, who have enormous talent, have been mild or worse disappointments. Sucks because you look at some of the guys on their roster and then their farm system with Machado/Bundy and you want to have hope for them. They even have a solid home park for that good team when it's ready. Ownership and that FO just seem to prolong the whole process with general ineptitude...

I'm actually really interested in this myself. Huge believer in coaches coaching and players playing, and that a team with a legit franchise QB will be in the hunt 10/10 so long as that QB is healthy. Example A: The Colts and Jim Caldwell. Yep. Plus as a Jet fan I'm sick of watching coaches eat fan and media bullets for the garbage talent they consistently field at QB. They lost some really good offensive coaches (IMO - most people HATE Brian Schottenheimer and no one cares about Ellard the former WR coach) that otherwise probably would have done really well with us given a QB who can play like a QB should be able to play in today's NFL. I have few doubts the Saints will be in it because they have that franchise QB, but I want to see where, when, and how they drop offensively. Edit: Not even sure this would tell us much in the end, would it? Sample size...they lost the DC as well...Are these already excuses?

I predict it ends comparably to Fukudome's run with the Cubs. I don't think he lives up to the hype or contract, but he still ends up being a halfway decent player in his own right. +1 To max out in Oakland I think Cespedes is going to have to show to be a very strong gap hitter, because that home park alone will get to him otherwise. Would not be surprised to see him really struggle this year overall... Now my boy Darvish down in Texas? That guy is going to be worth all of that hype they poured on him.

There's a tiny part of me that's disappointed that he looks like a solid bet to move off short (I mean ... at his age, looking like Junior Lake at 21 ... there's a snarky comment somewhere that I'll avoid). That said, adding another power talent to the organization is a plus, giving us a lot more pieces to hope on in developing our own stars internally. IIRC alot of people really liked Acosta's bat last year and he wasn't signed for his defensive prowess in the slightest. I think generally speaking most IFAs who aren't in their country's pro leagues already will be listed as SS, C, 2B, or CF...It helps their agents in negotiations, even if it's just a tad for most. Any word on Jeffry Baez? Is he even interesting (tools wise) or do I just like his stats? He's just 18 for the season this year.

Any word on who's taking over that job? Do they even have Brees under a non-franchise tag contract yet?

Jets and Broncos are splitting the 5 million and the trade is official. Really like this trade for the direction my team is taking the offense this year...Sucks that Sanchez's suckage kind of forced that hand, but in the end it doesn't really matter. Tebow isn't here to be a QB, but he's enough of a threat and presence to give the Jets kind of a "bullpen" of QBs (him, Stanton, and McElroy) that they haven't had in a while. Weird to have 4 QBs and not one trustworthy passer, but I guess teams like the Chiefs are going through this same thing with lesser athletic talents. Plus, I'm optimistic on Sanchez the passer next year.

How did young Vitters look this Spring? I'm still mildly optimistic on him this year. Looked like he was in really good shape but I have no numbers.

Basically replaced Carl Nicks with Ben Grubbs and signed Brodrick Bunkley. That's about it. Fortunately for them those are two really good moves. Bunkley is a great compliment to Ellis. Underrated player. Grubbs is a solid with the kind of road grading pedigree the Saints really seem to like.

A snag in the Tebow deal? Oh well. On entertainment value alone it's a win for the Jets. Considering that the Jets want to run the ball a crapton and the new OC is familiar with the WildCat/Option/Pistol/whatever it was even an interesting football move. Not that i would complain if they called take backs...

2014 is when they'll be the surprise sweethearts of baseball. 2015 is when they become a monster after signing Justin Upton.
