  1. Just to babble some more on this...The Cubs landed exactly the two Cubans I wanted them to land. The highly talented, touted LHP and then another 5 tool OF who is a notch up athletically from our best 5 tool guy right now (Jackson) and way ahead of guys like Golden and Dunston Jr., with way less of a bust factor. Plus he's the same age as those really young guys... I don't mind 2012 making it two years in a row I'm infinitely more interested in the farm system than the big league club...Maybe there'll be some actual breakouts this year (cough*Vitters*cough).
  2. So should I just have went with one of the Fresh Prince guys?
  3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ytCEuuW2_A That said, Mr. Comedian is right. I'll make you pay for that MSG. I'm a really sadistic poster, and can't wait to start an internet grudge over nothing with you. There's nothing I'd enjoy more. It makes me internet life/life that much more interesting.
  4. Other ways to express the emotions this move creates: http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lz7tj4nwCB1qgrteh.gif http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lyicrn0xGn1qi6eez.gif http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lx2x6z23LK1r4y14f.gif http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lyiqaxNzvJ1qkf7ew.gif http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lyfpx8Tmlu1r31us8o1_250.gif
  5. You didn't miss a thing, I don't think. In fact, now I feel like I missed something. This got covered? Adonde? I want to see some of the comparisons this guy is getting so I can dream comparison dreams.
  6. No one wants to answer these comp questions it seems. I think Justin Upton is a bad word or something.
  7. So what's the thinking on this guy...Dave Winfield? Raul Mondesi? Nelson Cruz? Jason Heyward? JUSTIN UPTON!? Do they let him gallivant in CF until he can't?
  8. When I read that young Concepcion throws a little across his body I instantly jumped to THE Ted Lilly.
  9. Rotfl. So this is really happening? This really is an awesome offseason...
  10. Older Upton = Mega underrated player. Still young enough to put up an explosive offensive season or two too... If we land both or even one of the Cubans does this make Jackson trade bait? I like Jackson alot but I don't think it should be a given that he's a cornerstone player of the future for Los Cachorros.
  11. This is why he is ours. This is why Theo and Jed are all over this kid. This is exactly what we need in our system right now. All he costs is money, and we have the ability to blow down the doors before the new rules take effect. Soler is a Cub. I am actually remarkably comfortable calling it now with 100% certainty. Get mad all you want at me typing that, whatever. Get ready for the excitement ya'll. Jorge Soler is a Chicago Cub! When?
  12. Saw this on the DPL web site: The way that's written makes me like this Pena guy. Hopefully he becomes relevant.
  13. Yeah yeah it's been said... You're taking the comp way more seriously than it was intended anyway. It literally ends at the very non-specific "guys who make contact and can handle 2B"...really not much need to spell out the differences between an 18 year old 5'8 IFA and a 22/23 YO 6'3" American college trained athlete...it was a throw away statement more playing in my ridiculous obsession with Lemahieu as a player. Also, Lemahieu isn't a future super star but he'll have a ten year career...His problem is that the Cubs aren't in a position where a guy like him would be very useful. Admittedly that's because his skills are limited. Mostly I like what he can do.
  14. I like Law alot. Not an idiot writer at all....Probably my favorite of the big outlet guys. There's dumb things like his love for Hak Ju Lee, but like you say he seems like part eneterainer so it just seems as part of the show.
  15. Along with the early success, I think Concepcion is more phsically talented than he might be given credit for. I mean the least big name young Cuban lefty was 6'5 with great athleticism and a 100 MPH. Not an easy act to follow, amirite?
  16. Torreyes posted a .101 ISO last year as an 18 year old in A ball. LeMahieu only posted an ISO over .100 twice. Once was during a 3 game stint in rookie ball. The other time was to start the 2011 season, as a 23 year old in AA. At every other stop along the way he was at .087 or lower. There's reason to be a bit more optimistic about Torreyes' potential power output. Don't worry about my bs with Lemahieu. I am insanely higher on that player than I should be. Mostly I just was referring to the contact and defense anyway. Torreyes is a worthy heir for me to pin down as 2B of the future.
  17. So does anyone else feel like Anthony Rizzo is alot like Derrel Lee but as a lefty bat? The more I read about him and the little I see put that into my head. Oh and which one of Vitters, McNutt, and Lake takes a leap to a more believable level of prodpectdom?
  18. A newer, younger LeMahieu...With more time to dream and so on...Very interesting kind of player/athlete in the system. Cubs like guys who make contact too...well everyone does.
  19. +1 The only upper level minor league SP prospect I have any long term interest in is McNutt, who is a boom or bust type right now. 11-18 is where the upside/hope is at in this system. As far as Chris Carpenter at 5...His arm is electric so I really hope he gets it together as a reliever. Guy could be filthy out of the bullpen. There was a span in the mid-2000's where a 'pen arm with his potential would get alot of love, but no one grades relievers that high anymore. If he's good I can see names like Scott Williamson and Grant Balfour...
  20. I'd still do that trade. Seen a whole lot of Burnett and he's just someone who needs to get out of the AL East. He's adjusting to throwing the changeup more often in the best offensive division in the league after being mostly a two pitch power pitcher his whole career. I think he'd be a good reclamation guy for the new coaches. Plus, they get away from Soriano, though he'd probably do really well as a DH in that Yankees lineup. Hm...I'd flip flop on this trade idea then...Both of these guys would be really good veteran reclamation projects if they came cheap IMO...and Soriano does work better here now in this otherwise HR-less lineup.
  21. So anyway, if I may (and I might guess that I may not), what makes Soler a future RFer rather than CF? I've read he'd have to shift from CF despite having sufficient speed for the position. Is it polish? Quick twitch athleticism? A frame that projects to fill out significantly? What kind of player has he gotten compared to? Raul Mondesi?
  22. I'm a very obvious poster so I have no problem admitting to being WeGotWood98, a mostly invisible poster on this board (as in 7 years of nothing) until I switched to the much more kickass KingKongvs.Godzilla on my own accord with full permission from the mods. What is a Conky? Is there anything worse than the person who is so sure of something they're wrong on? Is there anything worse than that combined with knowing it matters not because he's in his little turf that he's marked on for years? Is there anyone more crazy than that type of person when taking a bird's eye view? I was being such a psycho under this name that it took a month to sink in that I pop in once in a while (all of maybe 2 posts a day). The discovery coming because I have been dropping pretense more and more lately anyway...All around yuch.
  23. Not to mention that Archer's best came when repeating the level. Beyond the stuff I just need got the hype on the guy when it started...Weird thing is that I did correctly label him the big sleeper in the DeRosa deal. Still think he can be a very good closer...
  24. Tss maybe the two C's stand for Contrarian Carl or somethin. Tss.
