  1. So left handed, two years younger, better stuff, probably cheaper haven't checked, and only slightly worse statistically....Hmmmm...and OTOH I can have an Abner Abreu or two? Believe me, I'd much prefer Detweiler, but voluntarily taking an Abner Abreu type prospect over a viable youngish LH BOR option is crazy talk. I don't think Lannan is much, but I know I'd take him over Wells and a couple of A ball lottery picks. Us they might throw in an Abner Abreu type anyway since those are a dime a dozen at your local bodega.
  2. I actually thought they're still the most legit candidate even if he was healthy, but POSSIBLY this is good news for the Cubs. I mean they made it to the WS with Bonderman as their #2, so you have to figure a talent like Garza is tantalizing to them. Hmm...another question on that...bigger get...Turner or Castellanos? Still the more ready Turner, right?
  3. Bad enough to have their pick of Austin Wilson or Dominic Fiociello next year.
  4. Yes, but the problem is that two of those guys that should be included (Wood and Marmol, ESPECIALLY Marmol) are bombing the f out. Two games and already sick of those two...I mean that to the extent it's possible to mean after two games, but factor in that the two games a pretty gd humiliating.
  5. Just what the Cubs need...A FA signing who stops and stares at the HR he just hit for his 70 win team to make it 5-2 Other Guys. OTOH: Monster shot and the guy is probably a beast.
  6. Damn was kind of hoping he fell to Los Yets. Raw player but big upside as an all around T, and will help out in the run game relatively early.
  7. Latos debuting today for the Reds. Ubaldo vs. Morrow in the Indians/Blue Jays game... The Rangers future stud/current very talented Derek Holland tonight against Peavy and the Sox...I'd like to see this game but um...Saturday?
  8. Was alot more interested in this game before I saw that lineup. I'll watch anyway because of the good early season pitching matchup.
  9. Perhaps if July rolls around and were out of contention and don't get any offers, I guess we could do worse. I think he has a few years under team control. However, if we do have a fire sale at some point, the name of the game should be getting as many high ceiling prospects as possible, and even if the key to the deal is m ore Abner Abreu than Chris Archer then so be it, and hopefully we get an intriguing supplementary piece as well. If not, I'd assume that Byrd would be a Type B and the pick would also be more valuable than Lannan. I guess if we could get Lannan for Johnson or DeWitt maybe but there's nobody in the rotation I'd want to bump for him and even if someone were injured I'd prefer Wood and maybe Wells over him. Why would ANYONE want another Abner Abreu when the option might be a left handed rotation arm? You're not getting Lannan for Johnson or DeWitt, no one just gives away lefties like that. He's better than Wells too, and way more interesting...Lannan is on the high end of what Byrd MIGHT bring, not the low end.
  10. Personally would have went with Wagner over David if I went with a LB. Jeffery is a risky pick, but I think if he's picked outside of the first he's a steal. With the right team/QB he'll be a really good one.
  11. What's going with Hayden Simpson?
  12. Ugh If we had last years lack of pitching depth, I'd be interested in a flier, but as is, is he even an upgrade over Wells, Wood, or dare I say Coleman or Lopez? Byrd mentioned in the article. I know Byrd isn't going to net us any blue chippers, but we could certainly get a better return. Uuuuuum....yes. Yes, he is. Instantly we know he can throw more innings than them...and it's never a bad idea to be collecting LH arms considering teams will almost always have interest in them. BTW: For Byrd that's not a bad get. I don't expect much, if anything, for Byrd. The best part of dealing him will be opening up a spot for Jackson, not the return (hopefully just initially anyway).
  13. I don't actually think Raley will get physically better, but I do think he has the better frame, mechanics, and athleticism to maybe make it as a starter. I think both he and Chris Rusin are interesting, albeit low ceiling LH starter arms with Rusin well ahead.
  14. Steven Jackson and Sam Bradford's shoulder appreciate that.
  15. In much cooler news, the Jets signed an Aussie to bang alot of American girls by telling them he plays TE for the Jets: http://www.calgaryherald.com/sports/Jets+give+rugby+star+shot+tight/6414891/story.html I think the deal was for 3 years too...It's the NFL so that's bs, but more than you might expect?
  16. 6-3. Soriano's ball in the first was as good as Zimmerman's woulda/coulda/shoulda.
  17. Raley is much more athletic and has a less filled out frame than Antigua IIRC. I remember thinking Antigua was most definitely a future reliever anyway. I'd actually wait on Raley to completely bomb out as a starter. He's got a better shot than Antigua to be a back end guy.
  18. Haha there's still Marmol... had the same exact thought.
  19. Yeah, he hasn't had to pitch from the stretch since the third inning, it's not overly cold or hot, and he's just now hitting 100 pitches. Dempster is old, it's cold and it's Opening Day. If you don't pull him at 92, he's probably throwing 110 or so, and there's just no need for that. The whole bullpen is fresh and we've got an off day tomorrow. It's not egregious, it just seems a poor choice to me. Not all pitch counts are created equal. He's been on autopilot for the better part of 2 hours. I'd have had no problem going to Wood(or even Russell and Wood with the PH), but I really think there's little worry about Dempster overextending himself at this point unless he goes to 125 pitches or something. I remember last years "not all pitch counts are created equal" thread with Garza and his complete games to end the year. Same kind of thing...Dempster's was cruising....I LIKED seeing him get the 8th.
  20. I think he hit 90 or 91 maybe 5 times all day. Hopefully that's just because it's April.
