  1. Nah, just liked his arm, but I could see the other side pretty easily. He's no Shark with the stuff or the velocity so I'm barely curious or sold on my statement of him getting a chance again. That totally depends on how his arm strength and breaking ball develop, and I'm not sure he actually has the upside there. Anyway, if you watched his starts last year by the time the Dodgers start came around he was capable of throwing alright until about the 4th or 5th inning. Just mentioned the Red Sox one because it got the national broadcast so I remember it pretty well. My problem with the crap he took last year is that he was like the 10th starter on the depth chart, and 6-7 guys fell before they had to go to him. He sucked but it was clear that he had some talent as a pitcher...Glad to see all that bounced right off and he's creating himself a role on this pitching staff.
  2. I'd say Gausman, Wacha and Zimmer all have #2 starter upside. Appel is the only one with ace potential. Agreed with that. I like Correa and love Hawkins. If you guys could throw out comps for the three arms, who would it be? I've always seen Wacha as someone who's stuff reminded me of Dan Haren, but trouble with the other two. Maybe someone thinks Haren is a bad comp, which would be cool because I now know jack shyte on this draft anyway. Heard of Correa and he does sound interesting...Who's Hawkins and what up the middle position does he play? Without the Google I'm going to guess CF.
  3. I'd say Gausman, Wacha and Zimmer all have #2 starter upside. Appel is the only one with ace potential. I always thought Gausman was the most projectable of the college pitchers. That one Ask BA question has ruined my confidence in my draft knowledge...not that I'm great with the baseball draft (sheer numbers overwhelm me). Ah well...he's still the one I'd pick if Appel isn't on the board. Any bats who'll be interesting for the 6th pick (besides Buxton and Zunino)?
  4. He hung a few way outside the zone. Particularly trying to go back door on some lefties. That he did. Actually hoping he tightens that pitch up over the course of the year as he throws more and gets a better feel for the pitch.
  5. How did Volstad throw? I see 6 K's in 5 but that doesn't tell me much...I'm guessing his breaking stuff looked good?
  6. Hm...that makes me wonder if I overrate Gausman. What're the thoughts by others on this board on this guy? Does he have ace upside?
  7. <3 Russell...That guy took alooooooot of [expletive] from Cubs fans last year for taking some bullets as a starter. Hope he gets another shot at the rotation in a couple of years (though I don't think he'll end up a starter). He actually showed a lot of toughness against the Red Sox in Fenway up until his arm got tired. He should last here IMO... Anyway the bullpen should look drastically different by the end of the year, even if it's mostly roles/playing time. Really think Beliveau is going to be a standout pen arm...much better mechanics than I expected to see.
  8. Oh man forgot about Stanek. Yeah I expect someone in that kind of class of talent. I do think Wilson is in that class too. If the team is going to suck it better lead to elite draft talent. Never seen Crawford but will check him out in due time.
  9. A booooo...another Jet candidate bites the dust.
  10. I don't think Fiociello is a top 15 pick next year, as of now. Depends on what they think of his ability to play 3B, which some say he has the athleticism to do. OTOH, how awesome can Wilson be? That's the prize for sucking IMO...Whinston the pitcher is alright, but Wilson is going to be a stud. For fun, ideally over the next two drafts I'm hoping for Gausman this year and Wilson next year...That's the point of sucking, right?
  11. Tell me about it...It's all the Yankees guys talk about when they play the Rays...ESPN does it too when the Rays are on TV. I like it, of course, but the way they talk about it you'd swear this is something new to the sport. Personally, I've always felt it was a way to connect baseball and football and let casual fans know that baseball teams do have to move around defensively depending on the hitter and the situation (it's not just pitcher throws to batter and some guy might end up where the ball is hit).
  12. I'd like to see Volstad hit 94 or even 95 tomorrow, but I'll settle for a solid start. Shark was more mechanically impressive than I expected. He's come a long way mechanically, but he's really taken a step forward this year. Really like what he showed off yesterday all around. His pitches can still improve and gain more consistency.
  13. The same one that stopped him from going in the first couple of picks? Sucks.
  14. More pissed about missing Darvis than Cespedes anyway....I think Darvish is going to be an absolute stud. Can't believe the bankrupt-just-two-years-ago Rangers have made so many strides so quickly...Some well connected guys over there I guess.
  15. Best pick of the round so far.
  16. No really, Shark has the talent for this and it's took to be interesting to see how he takes. He's the most athletic SP talent they've had in forever, and post steroids baseball favors that. Plus besides for Garza he's the only one with any velocity on this staff....Really hope this works out.
  17. Yeah well by the end of his contract he won't be as good so take THAT.
  18. Toronto is only interesting if we get one of Noah S., Nicolino, or Norris. Don't want Drabek even if I like the arm, and Snider would be more interesting if he played D. Something like McGuire, Syndergaard/Nicolino/Norris, and upside someone (maybe one of the catchers?). Otherwise don't know...
  19. The worst part about Simpson is that he does have some talent. He's got an athletic delivery and I thought he had a nice loose arm action which gave him some good stuff. Still think there's some hope...especially if he was hitting the 90s in between this year and last. Would really suck for him to be a complete miss.
  20. Can I be the guy who says, "yeah, but what would we do with Brett Jackson?"
  21. I actually thought they're still the most legit candidate even if he was healthy, but POSSIBLY this is good news for the Cubs. I mean they made it to the WS with Bonderman as their #2, so you have to figure a talent like Garza is tantalizing to them. Hmm...another question on that...bigger get...Turner or Castellanos? Still the more ready Turner, right? Turner is currently embroiled in some injury troubles, iirc. Yeah shoulder...Castellanos by default? Smyly and others?
  22. Sweet. Any velocity reports or something else we can pick at?
  23. He's significantly more expensive. That's part of the reason he's available. Ah. There goes that conversation.
  24. Now his fastball might hit 94 if he's loose and feeling good and the slider isn't a cartoon pitch. Relievers....he's still probably tradable if he gets his act together moving forward.
