  1. At the start of the offseason, and especially after the Price and Greinke deals, who would've thought Heyward would sign for less than $200 million, Upton for less than $140, AND neither Gordon nor Cespedes even reach $100 mill.
  2. I don't watch the NBA much, but Curry is by far the most entertaining athlete to watch in any sport. I can't get enough of that dude. Just amazing.

If the prices for guys like Jackson and Fowler have been dropping, it could make sense to do something like Soler for Snell. We might not need more pitching for 2016, but we will soon. Snell is really, really good and could still help this year. I'd be scared to trade Soler, but I'd understand if the FO thinks there are enough red flags. Coghlan not being at the convention makes me think it could just be something small like a trade for Jennings though.
  4. That's interesting. My internet cut out a little in the middle there, so I missed a few. As David, alluded to, I'm going to read into that like it means something.
  5. Damn, that is just an absurd amount of really, really good players. I wasn't sure who they'd pick to anchor since there are so many stars to choose from.
  6. Get off the stage Ted. I want to see Heyward.
  7. Are the Cardinals really going to watch Upton's price fall to where there's talk he may need to take a 1 year deal and still sit it out? I don't think he'll need to take a 1 year deal, but that is an indication things aren't going great for him this winter. The Cardinals need to do something offensively, and this would be a good opportunity for them. What are everyone's predictions for the three best outfielders left (+Davis since he'll affect what the Orioles do)? My guesses: Upton - Cardinals Cespedes - Tigers Fowler - White Sox Daivs - Orioles Or maybe switch Fowler and Upton, but I feel like the Cardinals will end up with one of these guys.
  8. I don't think lack of AB's will be a huge issue. With the way the roster is currently constructed, he'll probably essentially be platooning with Schwarber. Also with Zobrist's age/knee issues and Russell's hammy history, he'll see time in those spots as well. As far as predictions go, I lean more toward Kyle on this one. I just think MLB pitchers will eat him alive until we can't afford to carry him on the roster anymore. I obviously hope I'm wrong. The dude is super fun to watch with that ridiculous swing and his flashiness on defense (I still think his overall ability on defense is overrated). But I just don't think that approach is good enough to sustain any real success. I like Adam Warren and I expect Zobrist to be really solid for at least a few years, so I'm not upset by that trade, but I expect Starlin to outperform Javy by a lot in 2016.
  9. Ryne Ween just shakes his head at Addison's life decisions.
  10. I'm expecting something like: Zobrist Schwarber Bryant Rizzo Heyward Soler Montero P Russell That splits up the strikeouts a little bit. Maddon liked Castro 5th because of his contact ability, and I'd be surprised if the best contact hitters are all batting 1-3.
  11. Nightengale is going to get off writing about how the Cardinals "stick to their guns" and are so disciplined when it comes to free agency this spring when everyone else is writing about how awesome the Cubs are.
  12. It is astounding that multiple MLB teams have gone through the interviewing process and have decided Dusty Baker was the best option at that particular time to become their manager. Just bonkers.
  13. Ugh, #21. There was a big deal made about Lester needing to ask for permission to wear 34, yet guys like Joe Mather and Lake get to wear 21 like it's no biggy.
  14. Especially since I imagine Sahadev is the only Cubs' writer Theo and Jed don't mock behind closed doors.
  15. Pretty sure he's never been good in CF or at least the plus defender there that he is in LF/RF. Just seems weird he'd go from being Heyward to Jim Edmonds circa 2008 in just a couple of years, even with the position change.
  16. Why is Parra terrible at defense now
  17. I don't doubt we're a better team now, but I'm pretty sad about this. Starlin was the only thing worth watching for what seemed like a long time until Rizzo came here. I thought he figured everything out during the 2014 season was going to turn into what we had all hoped for. Sigh. As David said, at least it's the Yankees; he's not going to Cleveland or Tampa to play in front of 7,000 people.
  18. Cobb only has two more years of control and won't be ready for the start of the season (plus the potential for the first-year-after-TJ-struggles). I don't love Baez, but that's a deal you can't make.
  19. [expletive] Theo and his love of all things Red Sox if that means Papelbon*. I doubt he's in the "top closer" category though. *unless they're so desperate to get rid of him that Strasburg could be packaged with him
  20. I don't know why the media keeps projecting him in the low 20's. Guess we'll see but I doubt the market values him that lowly. If it does, I suppose it says something about how his defensive value is viewed. I kind of think the general reaction to Heyward's deal among fans who like WAR will be one of surprise at how "cheap" he comes. I don't think he'll top Price (or maybe even Greinke if he got 6 years) in total dollars. Some of it due to not every team being enamored with the type of player he is, but also there are some other really good corner outfielders available. I still doubt we can afford him without being super creative, but that's my take. Could look really silly by next week.
  21. Meh, I hate Lackey, but he's still a good pitcher I guess. Though I am expecting something boring in CF now. Hard to backload too much on a 2 year deal, unless they're going to defer payments. Wood and Lackey alone will probably make over $20 million next season and considering what all of the writers have been saying recently, I am going to assume we're about done spending. That's what's disappointing about this.
  22. Meh, I think sometimes we can just lock in on the xFIP column on fangraphs and ignore everything else. Miller is young, throws hard, under control for three more seasons, and has been durable lately. It's also not like he hasn't gotten really good results - a 3.22 ERA in almost 600 MLB innings. He did throw a boatload of fastballs/cutters last season, but it was also his best season and came a big increase in GB%. I imagine he could adjust and use his curve more if needed. I was on the "Contreras is a top 2 prospect in the system" bandwagon before it was cool, but I think a Contreras/McKinney package is fair. Maybe not my first choice to acquire Miller and give up Contreras (if it came to that) with all of the pitchers that are available, but I would definitely be happy to have Miller.
  23. I doubt Curt ever actually regrets anything he says/posts, but I bet the fact that you're verified did make him sweat for a moment.
  24. So Kaplan says the Cubs are in on Heyward but won't go over $170 million to sign him. That...doesn't sound like they're really in on him, unless his market is really messed up.
  25. Vogelbach+ is not the right price. Nobody is picking him up with the intention of installing him in their lineup the next season Vogelbach did just put up a .390 wOBA in Double-A. I don't think an ETA of 2017 is out of the question.
