  1. Damn, watching a few of those highlights, Contreras has a cannon. I'm pretty excited about him.
  2. We have three 6 win players, two of those reaching 7 wins. Bryant finishes 2nd in the mvp ballot Bad - Starlin doubles zobrist's war.
  3. It was a very long and dongless winter, so I really wish there were actual highlights of the past few games besides just blurry vines or whatever.
  4. I feel like since we're in the year 2016, more of these games should be on television.
  5. Almora isn't super exciting to me, but man I'm curious to see what UZR and DRS have to say about him. He sure has a lot of highlights.
  6. TIL John Jaso has dreads.
  7. hahahaha, what in the world
  8. I was just talking about this with a buddy of mine. I told him 103-59, so I'll stick with that. I don't see a weakness with this roster. The Cardinals and Pirates had such unimpressive offseasons and just seem sorta "meh" to me now. Combine that with a lot of truly terrible teams in the NL, and there are a whole bunch of relatively easy regular season wins out there. The Mets still very much worry me come playoff time, but who cares about that right now.
  9. It was lame when we had both Ross and Castillo, but I really like the eight reliever thing now. Pinch hitting is hard and not many guys can do it well anyway, and 40% of our rotation can't be trusted beyond 5 innings per start for an entire season. I like all of the fresh arms.
  10. La Stella has like the perfect skill set for a pinch hitter facing elite relievers with his discipline and contact ability. I feel like the four bench guys (TLS, Javy, Ross, Soler) and really the whole 25 man is pretty much set. I see guys like Brothers, Murton, and Victorino only factoring in on opening day if there are injuries in the spring.
  11. Theo is a white guy from Boston. I feel like a few people have forgotten this.
  12. I wonder if Heyward still plays center when they're both in the lineup. I'm thinking yes.
  13. I know the expectation shouldn't be that we match last year's win total, but jeez I really don't see how we end up with less.
  14. https://twitter.com/CarrieMuskat/status/701856941388115968 also https://twitter.com/CarrieMuskat/status/701804971243601920
  15. His defense last year worries me, but I seem to always forget how good zobrist was with the bat in 2015 whenever I'm just looking up stats for our guys.
  16. Hmm, so apparently that one thing everyone is searching for that could bring this team down will be a season long feud between Lester and Zobrist that divides the clubhouse.
  17. It doesn't matter who first took the picture and where it originated from; all that matters is where it ended up. Arguello should know that.
  18. Contreras. It was his first really good season, but he did it in his first taste of Double-A, which is huge to me, and is still only 23. 140 games with a ~.900 ops, combining Double-A and the AFL, as a 23 year old catcher is more than enough to be #1 in this system.
  19. lol, poor Mike Carey. But my goodness, if they didn't overturn that incomplete pass, they might as well do away with challenges for tonight.
  20. I have only one concern about the 2016 team: how well Arrieta holds up after the ~250 innings of last season. If he pitches, I expect he'll be awesome, but I'm kind of terrified.
  21. One of those things is not like the others. I agree with Rammy in that I'd like to see one of Zobrist/Heyward batting 5th. Along those same lines, I'd prefer not to see Bryant-Schwarber-Soler hitting back-to-back-to-back; that's going to be a lot of K's. Fitting Rizzo and Zobrist/Heyward between those guys would be ideal to me. Soler and Schwarber might not be huge strikeout guys in the future, but the expectation should be that they're both at least 25% next year.
  22. Making Soler a 4th OF is a terrible idea. Play him or trade him. Benching him will just mess with his confidence and waste a top prospect. There's enough flexibility in a Schwarber/Heyward/Fowler/Soler OF that basically all of Fowler/Schwarber/Soler can get to 140 games played/500+ PAs with Heyward at 150/600+. That many PAs for those four seems unlikely, unless they start trusting Schwarber to catch more than just Hendricks and Hammel, which I doubt. Arrieta has the best stuff in the league, and Lester and Lackey might actually physically harm him if he poorly frames a couple of pitches. Personally, my ideal rest of the offseason would be trading Soler for Blake Snell, then signing Austin Jackson. It helps the pitching situation for 2017/2018 and I think a Coghlan/Jackson platoon (with Heyward switching between CF and RF) has a pretty good shot at outperforming Soler anyway. I have doubts the Rays go for that though.
  23. All Bryant has to do is increase his power slightly while also bring his k's down like 1-2%. Zips has him around a 345 Babip with a 270 batting avg. That seems realistic.
  24. Way under. ...he says nervously while tugging at the collar of his shirt
  25. lol He was awesome in 2015, so maybe it won't be that big of improvement, but I'm expecting some truly epic seasons from Bryant over these next few years. Like tapping into that 45 dong power while still being able to run fast and play good infield defense before he gets older and stiffer.
