  1. Hendricks seems like he'd super easy guy to catch, so I'm guessing he'll get those starts. Probably Richard's starts as well. Lester will still be with Ross it sounds like. Would Hammel (sliders in the dirt) and Arrieta (absurd movement on everything) starts turn into a wild pitch/passed ball fest with Schwarber back there?
  2. I think everyone who liked them realized they are still an extremely flawed team - the bad outfield defense and zero good infielders. I didn't like them at first, but closer to the start of the season I thought Kemp, Upton, Myers, and Norris would hit enough and that rotation would be good enough to keep them in contention. But I don't think it was hard to see this outcome as a possibility.
  3. The game thread for a one game playoff in St Louis would be something to behold.
  4. Betances and Davis as setup men are a little more impressive stuff-wise than K-Rod and Melancon. Speaking of which, I'm really surprised at the season Melancon has had. With his decrease in velo and some of his outings early on (including that blown save against the Cubs), I thought he was done.
  5. If Upton plays LF next over Bryant, I'll be a little peeved.
  6. It's July 14 and they're advertising a football game for September 3?
  7. lol, nice job by the camera man to embarrass Harold. "The number of stars on the jerseys signify how many AS Games they've been to." *shows Bryant with 2 stars on his jersey*
  8. I hope if/when Bryant goes in, he doesn't have to face Sale. Anyone but him.
  9. Yeah Byrd had a good game. I remember Starlin randomly looking super fast in the AS Game in AZ, stealing two bases easily.
  10. Yeah, they just should've had Home Run Derby Girl sing the Anthem again; she was great.
  11. if baez is ready to go, i'd say yes if i was the cubs... but why would the padres want that guy? Because they traded away Trea Turner, and Alexi Amarista is their SS. I think I posted that when we were unsure how much time Hammel will miss; I actually kind of doubt the Cubs would do that trade right now. btw, I get that everyone wants to fire Castro into the sun and doesn't think he's worth anything, but Cashner is only under control through 2016, and as sneaky said, is oft-injured and isn't having a great year. His value isn't at its peak right now either. I don't think it's a stretch at all that he could be had for Starlin.
  12. It's really dangerous for them to have recently retired MLB players playing with unathletic celebrities. Like if Sean Casey or Vlad hit a line drive at that Hunger Games dude or Jordin Sparks, they're dead.
  13. What's with every announcer asking these guys what their "strategy" is? It's a [expletive] home run derby. Swing hard.
  14. The bracket thing is weird, but I like the constant swinging that comes with a timer.
  15. accuweather and weather.com look encouraging. They'll get it in.
  16. I like Bryant's swing for this competition more than old man Pujols. Not sure about Rizzo's matchup. My pick to win is Pederson.
  17. lol, I hear ya. But Arrieta vs Wacha would be a whole lot better than vs Cole. Of course, if we're battling the Mets and Giants until the very end, Arrieta might not be able to pitch that game, but still, no Cole.
  18. Umpires are the worst and I normally don't mind when players show them up, but man, Cervelli is such an [expletive] to them. He frames pitches for an obnoxious amount of time. I'm slightly surprised StatCorner has him as the best framer this season; I'd expect umps to take that personally and shrink the zone. A Lester-Cervelli battery would be hilarious.
  19. 2.66/2.59/2.71 ERA/FIP/xFIP [expletive] the All-Star team; Jake's too good for it
  20. Man, he really hung two of those breaking pitches to Soler, but Jorge swung at the one that was out of the zone.
  21. Arrieta will pitch on 6 days rest next start, so I imagine Maddon will let him go well over 100 pitches if need be.
  22. Len kinda brought this up just now but... if we continue to struggle to score runs and Dexter doesn't turn it around from the left side, a Schwarber/Coghlan/Soler outfield defensive alignment would be too awful defensively to actually try, right? Or would it be worth it?
  23. Schwarber's batting 3rd and catching for the US team. Edwards is slated to pitch in the later innings.
