  1. Ross has always hit for decent power. He's due for a dong.
  2. I always kind of liked Chip. He's no Len, but no one is.
  3. Bryant on July 4th. JK, Arrieta had one his last start.
  4. Olney tweeted that an exec he talked to said there's a 75-90% Shields gets traded at the deadline. I wonder if that Shields-Castro framework has been discussed. I can't imagine there are a lot teams jumping at the idea of acquiring Shields and the 3/63 left on his deal (when he'll be 36 at the end of it). He's been weird this season - K's way up, walks way up, velo down, homers way up..
  5. Happ is up to .278/.408/.485. Gotta be close to going to South Bend, right?
  6. Banuelos doesn't have the stuff he once did, nor does he have great command. I think our offense randomly explodes tonight and treats Banuelos like they did Shaun Marcum.
  7. Maddon said Schwarber's not going to catch Arrieta.
  8. Given the offensive struggles, I'd imagine he starts out catching 3/5 of the SP's. Hopefully he can be trusted with Arrieta in the not-too-distant future as well.
  9. Is Rondon having the best season ever for someone who was "demoted" from closer?
  10. I was guessing they weren't going to trust Schwarber with Lester and Arrieta before Maddon said so before the game, but it is a little silly considering he's been paired up with Grimm and Rondon tonight. Stuff doesn't get much filthier than that.
  11. 2 outs, I don't mind that. Fowler went on first movement, the pitcher guessed/read it right. Meh.
  12. Hopefully Grimm isn't scared to throw his curve with Schwarber back there and a runner at 3rd. Or maybe he should be. I don't know.
  13. We all know that the idea of a hit and run is to hit the ball on the ground, and when you're forced to swing at everything thrown, it can be difficult to hit the ball in a certain direction, right? Like he's been really bad, but making weak contact on hit and runs like that is partially due to where the pitch was and the fact that he had to swing.
  14. I don't remember this nasty slider from Teheran. I thought he was pretty much a fastball/changeup guy...at least that's what he was when he was a top prospect.
  15. His only start of the series, better make it count.
  16. Nice. Did he think Maybin was going to throw to the plate?
  17. Montero can't throw either. Don't feel bad, Kyle.
  18. omg, Bryant's batting gloves with bears on them are so sweet.
  19. well that's insane. have you not been watching the last month or so? Yeah, Soler is a couple of hitless AB's away from there being 4 sub-700 OPS players in the everyday lineup (or 5 on the days Schwarber doesn't catch).
  20. Braves are going Teheran/Banuelos/Miller this series. I'll take it.
  21. God mlb.com is worthless when it comes to their prospect lists and updating them. The headline on cubs.com is "No. 2 Prospect Schwarber Called Up." No, mlb.com, reliever Carl Edwards Jr. is not a superior prospect.
  22. Why would you say that? I don't know much either way, but I'd think a guy that is less reliant on stuff and more on location would benefit more from framing. That's true that Hendricks would probably benefit more from framing. But from the catchers' perspective, catching someone with amazing command and without plus velocity seems like it'd be relatively easy.
