  1. It say something that you think prioritizing the future over the present means tanking.
  2. My guess is this is the main reasons they were so focused on players with control. They didn't want to expend too many resources on rentals, so they went for the home run players. They didn't land any of them, so at the last minute they pivoted to rentals that wouldn't cost very much. It feels like they saw this season as a good opportunity, but the seasons upcoming as even better. So they tried to balance out those two thoughts. But instead of balancing the two thoughts, they placed all the weight on future seasons. Again.
  3. Be sure to credit @thekapman when you tell your friends that the Cubs are working the phones on trade deadline day.
  4. Both Rule 5 guys, no loss Yeah luckily we got something for Soto before he got plucked in Rule 5.
  5. Remember that time we started Mark Clark in game 1 against Atlanta? (Or maybe we didn't. That's how I remember it and I'm too lazy to look it up). The '98 Cubs preferred to call him 'our #2 starter'. Not by 4/12/98.
  6. Remember that time we started Mark Clark in game 1 against Atlanta? (Or maybe we didn't. That's how I remember it and I'm too lazy to look it up). Was it Game 1 or 2 that Tapani almost threw a shutout?
  7. I really doubt it's anyone of consequence.
  8. http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/mlb/players/full/30765.png&w=350&h=254 Yeah, not even the same at all. How's that? http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/mlb/players/full/30327.png&w=350&h=254

  10. Is this better than freeish Vance Worley?
  11. I wouldn't be shattered if the Cubs waited until the waiver period when they get additional leverage. That said, I have no qualms with a slight overpay for a legitimate asset. I'm going for the heroin if Clayton Richard starts one more game for the Cubs while we "get additional leverage"
  12. That lineup (minus Baez) is striking fear in no one at present That's my whole point. I want to see what it would be like if they are all clicking at the same time, maybe a year or two from now. This year they aren't all clicking for a variety of issues. Yeah, and if doing nothing doesn't get it done by 2017, we can always start trying then. 2018 was always the year.
  13. Just begging for Veruca Salt in response. #IWantAtLeastOneOompaLoompaIn4YearsTime
  14. Do other teams still look at Edwards as a top pitching prospect? That'd be pretty sweet if they do. Really interested to see the Cubs' lineup tonight.. Cashnering Edwards would be fantastic.
  15. Canadian dollar is 77 cents now, so if he asks for $30M/per, they'll have to go $39M/per, won't they? (i'm probably in the minority when it comes to my lack of total utter desperation for adding a #1 SP, it's just kind of funny to consider) I'm confused. His contract will be in USD, so he'll have more buying power by being in Canada 81 days a year.
  16. That's a debt rule. The Jays have no debt.
  17. I gotta figure the division he plays in is somewhere around 3,542 on that other factors list.
  18. It seems almost impossible for me to imagine us outbidding the Dodgers for Price. About as impossible as it is for me to imagine Price extending with LA before hitting the open market.
  19. Really hope they don't extend him so the Cubs have a shot in the offseason. If he does get extended who does that leave this offseason? Cueto, Gallardo, Kazmir, Kennedy, Lackey, Latos, Samardzija, Zimmerman Still some good names out there, but a lot less sexy without price I'd be really surprised if the Jays ended up extending Price, especially before he hits the market. While it is kinda disappointing to see so many big names elsewhere, I can say I'm happy the Cubs didn't beat the prices paid for Hamels and Price so far. I don't see how the Jays could possibly afford it. Between paying Tulo and having to replace Buehrle and Dickey, they'd have to jump their payroll up 20 or 30M. They have the richest owners in baseball.
  20. I'll forever confuse him with Nate Bland so hard pass.
  21. They didn't get a competitive balance pick this year, though it was total luck that they didn't. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/07/2016-competitive-balance-draft-results.html Good, but either way its ridiculous that the Cardinals have an opportunity for one each year. Why are they basing this on "10 smallest markets" and not "10 smallest revenue teams"? Because while St. Louis metro is relatively small their regional fan base is gigantic, and now with a top 10 revenue TV deal it becomes even more ridiculous that they would receive an extra 1st or 2nd round pick almost every season on top of TV revenue that is probably double what the Cubs get. They probably don't want to encourage teams to tank in Wins-Losses AND revenue.
  22. What are some of the other worst contracts in the last 15 years?
  23. What they've done over the years is prove they can lose a whole lot of baseball games. While building a system that can win a whole lot of baseball games. But not enough to try just yet.
