  1. looking at the records of all of these teams and then seeing the cubs as a road team in the wild card game makes me mildly irate. I just think of how much angrier I'd be 4 years ago.
  2. Illinois keeps getting put on channels I don't have.
  3. i hope that whenever we win it, he actually feels comfortable showing his face and having some sort of cool moment because the whole thing is awful. Bring him back after they win it. I don't trust Cubs/sports fans enough to not be awful to him if they bring him back for a playoff game or something and then they end up losing. Bring him back where? He's living a normal life, just doesn't feed into media(and other) morons.
  4. There's absolutely nothing douchebag about sharing the wealth. The douchebag thing is flaunting wedding party cold beverages that other guests do not have access to. This was meant for us during outdoor photos (while the rest of the guests drove ahead to the reception). The point is, some of the bridal party didn't get any cold drinks because the dates of the other groomsmen took them instead I'd say whoever was in charge of that was a cheapskate and should have had more than enough for the dates and the party. Yeah, if I'm in a bridal party and there's an embarrassingly small amount of booze, then the groomsmen buy more.
  5. [expletive] that we haven't had optimism in a playoff game since DeRosa's HR in Game 1 in '08. Give me something to cheer about at some point in time.
  6. If your friends weren't so cheap, the cost of the wedding wouldn't matter.
  7. How much do you pay a babysitter when you're going to a wedding? TT, how much do you tip a babysitter?
  8. i don't think it's that they're out of favor, it's that teams really covet good starting pitching at the deadline and are as a result willing to part with guys if that's the price of doing business like, i don't think Beane exactly gave up on Addison Russell Eh, I don't think Strop, Ramirez, or Grimm were really that highly valued by their respective teams. Not saying those types(with their control) are out there for free, but Strop was potential waiver wire fodder, and Ramirez and Grimm seem the type of need for need swaps that could be made without giving up any big talents.
  9. Yeah, I can't think of why a FO could identify good relievers who are out of favor with a big league team and/or fringe prospects, but couldn't identify the same in minor league/fringe signings.
  10. And whadda ya know, we can add an actual top starter, because turns out spending 25M in starting pitching depth is unnecessary. do you pay attention to anything? i've advocated for Heyward about as much as anybody besides that annoying godzilla guy Contrary to your opinion, it's not always about you. I'm building off your point that building SP depth shouldn't be an either-or with anything.
  11. And whadda ya know, we can add an actual top starter, because turns out spending 25M in starting pitching depth is unnecessary.
  12. I'm relatively sure you'll have a chance to see Royal Blood again some time in the future.
  13. And the fact that none of those guys listed (maybe Wood?) are really depth
  14. No, because Brandon Webb became bad and injured. We should just sign 3 mediocrities. lol - because those are the only alternatives. How is that you expect us to build depth on old painty can Tom's budget while adding multiple pitchers better than the Jason Hammels of the world?
  15. No, because Brandon Webb became bad and injured. We should just sign 3 mediocrities.
  16. I don't really know a lot about SRS, but it only has 3 AL teams as below average. AL leads interleague 163-130. I think that's a tough sell. The bottom of the NL is just so terrible. Top of my head, I'd take any AL team over the Phillies, Rockies, Marlins, and Braves. And would put the Reds and Brewers as coin flips.
  17. I find the Twins success far more baffling.
  18. If Kyle doesn't believe we're a favorite to win the division, I REALLY don't understand his lack of desire to add high-end pitching
  19. Any opinion on Kelly's Sports Bar? Best I can see it's the only Cubs bar in the city.
  20. anytime i go to a bar by myself in a situation like this, i end up on some insane adventure that said, that beats having to behave around your boss. My boss is awesome and it's a lot easier to expense when you're not getting drunk alone. But I'm...irrational during big games
  21. I'm going to be in NYC for it. Depending on my schedule I'll either be at the Cubs bar by myself(in which case I'll be real hungover on Thursday) or out with my boss in which case I'll have to not be a total spaz about the game
  22. As someone who trended towards Kyle's side on THE PLAN, and isn't as negative towards him as most...I have no Earthly idea what his issue was with the previous 3 years (other than the obvious endless losing) based on his stance in this thread..
  23. We've got our all-world mega-ace going in the WC game. How'd we get him again? By going huge on a free agent in the offseason, or by spreading it around on lots of pitching bets? do we really want to spend any time whatsoever from this little window of cheap offensive production we've constructed for ourselves hoping to get lucky on a bunch of small pitcher bets? This isn't online poker It's pitching. You're hoping to get lucky no matter what you do. I'd rather bet on two great pitchers and 10 OK ones than 3 great pitchers and 6 OK ones. That seems like an awful [expletive] bet.
