  1. Certain people believe things and are never going to change their minds because he saw Derrek Lee strike out with the bases loaded one time. It's not worth the time to prove them wrong over and over and over again, because they're not going to listen. One only needed to look at the absurd floating goal posts in the poster's original argument to know he wasn't going to change his mind.
  2. Hey! Now some respect for the all time leading home-run hitter from Canada Big Larry Walker fan?
  3. Or, perhaps the Cubs planned all along that the bullpen gig would be temporary. What would make you think that?
  4. Here's the connundrum. IMO, in order for Cashner to be a starter next year, 2 things have to happen: -Cashner has to continue to flame out in the pen the rest of the season -The Cubs have to waste a lot of money on the bullpen in the offseason. And both of these things would really suck.
  5. I don't think they arrest you for having an ego
  6. Is it wrong that I want Dunn to become a Cub just because he'll drive Mr. Exclusive nuts.
  7. If the Cubs sign Dunn, I'll be willing to overlook that the move was predicated upon an irrational fascination with "handedness". It means no dumbass deal to Konerko either.
  8. Is it bad that I want this to be untrue just because this [expletive] [expletive] reported it?
  9. Like it matters
  10. Boise State cannot be happy
  11. Why couldn't he be stretched out in spring training? He could be stretched out to pitch a starter's share of innings in an individual game, but he can't magically jump 100 innings without seriously risking arm troubles.
  12. He already gave up $30 million when he was a free agent to resign with the Cubs. You expect him to give up another $30 million to a) play for a team that may or may not make the playoffs and b) enter a depressed free agent market with no guarantee of a multiyear deal? You're assuming that he would have gotten his asking price, which is exactly what Beltran got. He was never going to get as much as Beltran. And he is really only leaving $14 mil on the table since next year is a player option, and he will never get the club option from the Cubs anyway. With contracts shrinking, the only way the Cubs pick up the 2012 option is if they are very competitive after next year and Ramirez somehow puts up MVP type numbers again. Only 3 third basemen have made more money than Aramis Ramirez in MLB. A-Rod, Rolen and Chipper Jones. And he's made only $2 million less than Pujols. IIRC, the Angels offered him over $100 million and he turned it down to go back to the Cubs. And if he's traded, he's not just leaving $14 million on the table because his 2012 option vests as well. According to the link above, the Braves would have wanted him to rip up the last two years of his deal. IIRC, the Cubs re-signed Aramis while the Cubs had the exclusive rights to negotiate with him, meaning he never got an offer from another team. What I'm saying is that Aramis will never get the 2012 option if he stays with the Cubs, so how is he "giving it up" if he gets traded somewhere else? I just can't see how a guy who has made almost $85 million in 12 years is worried about giving up $16 mil. Unless he knows that he is done. Maybe he doesn't want to leave Chicago
  13. They should void his contract for participating in such dangerous behavior
  14. aren't they typically more specific to "dangerous activities" like doing a wheelie on your motorcycle? I'd be shocked if you could really fit punching someone into any of the out clauses in a MLB contract. Yep, it's why Jeff Kent was washing his truck.
  15. Yeah I can't imagine Watford ever being drafted. I understand he's only had 1 year on the college level, but I don't see him as athletic enough for the 3, or big enough for the 4.
  16. He knew in April that the team was going nowhere.
  17. The Reds-Cardinals fight inspired the Cubs in this series
  18. didn't you grow up in boston? no
