  1. Pomeroy has pre-season ratings out this year. kenpom.com
  2. They were gonna sign Adam Dunn, but they spent all their money buying a new fanny pack for roast.
  3. Doesn't mean he wouldn't have been a good fit as the bench coach. With the Cubs in transition and bringing up a lot of these young players that Sandberg has coached and been around the last four years would have been very beneficial to the Cubs and these players. Listach also has been around these players. Listach worked in the system for quite awhile too. Based on experience as minor league manager and coaching, Listach is more qualified than Sandberg. While Sandberg has the name and illustrious playing career, he's still relatively inexperienced in coaching/managing. but fairly successful at all the levels he has coached, even if this year we used every minor leaguer we had at pitcher. I would have loved to here from player who played for him. He hadn't been "fairly successful at all levels" He had 1 good season (this past year)
  4. The Cubs aren't going to be terrible next year
  5. Oh man, IU whiffing on Zeller would be incredible.
  6. Disappointed, was kinda hoping it'd be neon yellow.
  7. He'd just wave off Garnett and dribble into the lane without a plan anyway.
  8. Garnett played that steal perfectly, just stalked Noah and waited til he had Davis right there to catch the tip out.
  9. I thought that was awful live, but the replay showed Rose shoving Garnett with his off-arm. It was actually a really good call.
  10. Why is Rose waving off Noah in that situation? Run the high pick with him, Noah's been your best offensive weapon all game if he has to dish to him, it's not the worst thing in the world.
  11. This game was on ESPN the whole time and I've been listening to Stacey King instead??
  12. Layup drill for Rajon
  13. Haha, good idea you doofus go driving into Garnett
  14. It obviously means that the team underperformed. Oh man; "Cobs." Except that they didn't underpreform. They over performed by 2 wins according to their Pythagorean Record: (73-89). I'm not saying they cannot compete within the division next year, but it isn't likely. Outperforming Pythagorean record doesn't mean they didn't underperform as a team.
  15. he might not commit 40 errors by himself but combined with Castro, 50+ is certainly doable. They played at a 50 error pace last year
  16. Maybe I don't have a trained enough eye, but I never saw what it was Scalabrine was bringing to the table, even as an 11th guy. He sets the sloppiest screens you'll ever see, is too slow to guard anyone with athleticism and too weak to guard anyone with strength. The only thing I ever saw him do well was shoot the 3. He never bothered me much cause he'd only play garbage minutes, and then the '08-'09 playoffs happened and Rivers lost me forever.
  17. Players don't become good defenders overnight and coaches don't become good head coaches overnight. Thibodeaux and the players will adapt and improve as the season progresses.
  18. Might as well do it if you can. I wonder who the next school will be to do this? If Notre Dame wasn't in such a hole, they could.
  19. It has nothing to do with who I think is better, Johnson is better. I also understand that Hoffpauir has no upside. I just think that adding guys like Johnson would just be treading water, if that is the case I would just as soon just hide all the pretenses of being a WS contender and get serious about player development. Its kind of a get worse to get better thing. What does playing a 31 year old Micah Hoffpauir have to do with player development? Nothing, but the Cubs are already paying him. Might as well invest whatever money you save on Johnson into player development. Spending all your payroll on player development and running the '03 Tigers out there is a sure way to lose money and piss off fans. You get the added side effect of burning a pre-arb year on prospects who aren't ready for the majors, possibly stunting their development along the way. Obviously it's not a problem with Hoffpauir, who gives a [expletive] about him, but this seems to be the strategy you and others are espousing. It's not like Nick Johnson is going to get a big contract, if they go out and sign Overbay to a 3 year deal, there's the issue, signing a stop-gap low-risk, high reward guy for a year isn't a problem.

  21. Nick Johnson is only a year and a half older than Hoffpauir and he doesn't suck.
  22. The mock draft is ok, but the site isn't comfortable.
  23. $30,000 is below the league minimum and herds of goats aren't legal tender.
