  1. That just makes it an even bigger shocker! With our 2nd pick, we select Yu Darvish!

  3. I have a dinner reservation at 5:30 so I'm going to miss the real-time freak outs. Should be depressingly fun to read when I get home.
  4. thebaseballknowitall.com had a dynamite mock draft.
  5. Maybe we can take someone even crappier if this guy is too cheap. ETA: Hopefully older too
  6. yeah, I now consider the 13-0 Auburn team that had Cadillac Williams, Ronnie Brown, Jason Campbell, Carlos Rogers, Marcus McNeil, and Jay Ratliff among others as the national champions that year...Oklahoma can share this championship if they must (although they looked pretty bad against USC.) Unfortunately, the BCS won't be reawarding this championship. I don't.
  7. Seems like a wasteful use of resources to try to be better on paper than the Yankees when you only need to be better than the Cardinals and Brewers. By being better on paper than the Yankees, you leave a lot less up to variance for a lesser Brewers or Cardinals team beating you out. Yeah, the Cubs should be in a position where they dominate this division, not just occasionally flirt with the leaderboard. If I made that comment someone would have responded saying that this isn't golf and eight others would agree. It'd be nine others you idiot.
  8. Do the people writing this stuff realize Pujols/Fielder won't be signing 1 year deals?
  9. What about quitting baseball because of the Cubs? They're even worse.
  10. Rosenthal's not an analyst, he's a reporter. It shows.

  12. Nobody here thinks otherwise. If you win your division/wild card, you are more than capable of winning a world series.
  13. The funny thing is, recent good teams for the Cubs have mostly been rapid turnarounds. '97-98. '00-'01 '02-'03 '06-'07. Going back further, same thing for '83-'84 and '88-'89. Every postseason appearance during my lifetime (except for the repeat in '08) followed a losing season. '44-'45 as well. So everyone's lifetime but Fred's.

  15. Good choice, sir. The premptive "if you disagree with me, it's NSBB group think" is a classic. Anyone that has a dissenting opinion here is automatically a fool.
  16. WTF are you talking about? I'm questioning the timing of his comment and the methods that he chose to deliver them. I completely agree with his statements. I hate that he called out Marmol through the media. Coming from Zambrano, it seems too "pot calling the kettle black". I fail to see your point. Are you calling me hypocritical? I'll ask you -- how do you feel about Zambrano and his comments? Hypocritical? I'm saying you said he's at his worst behavior when the team is losing, yet can't provide examples of his cancerous behavior in all those other losing times. Regarding his comments, I don't really care. It's a competitive player venting about a shitty season. Doesn't change my opinion of him at all. You don't think Marmol was pissed at himself for his performance, I really doubt there's some beef between them because of it. You don't think the rest of the team is pissed about their performance? They know they've sucked, Z saying it doesn't change anything.
  17. But those prospects won't even be on our next good team in 2019.

  19. What are you talking about? This team has been terrible and he's been good. I was referring to the first half last year. So his struggles once coincided with the team's struggles, but he's pitching well while the team is nosediving. That doesn't add up to "he seems to be at his worst when the team is struggling." He was really good in 2005 and 2006, he was better than people care to admit in 2010. He had a good second half in 2010. The first half wasn't nearly as good and let's not forget that he fought with a teammate, was suspended missing a lot of starts, went to anger management etc. During his struggles did Marmol or anyone go to the media and say "He should have better pitch selection" - no. Z is at his worst (behavior) when the team is least prepared to handle it (losing streak). Remind me again of his incidents in '05, '06, and '09? Oh and down the stretch in '04. And the '07 playoffs. And the '08 playoffs.
  20. I don't know, but based on the Wells treatment, they should have him rehab in Iowa and let Russell/Coleman start this one instead. Wasn't Garza's injury just a bone bruise? It would seem that wouldn't require rehab versus a muscle/tendon issue where you need to rebuild strength. Taking two weeks off from starting games is an issue now matter how it happens though. If you're able to throw side sessions during those two weeks, I can't imagine it's a big concern. Wells wasn't pitching at all.
  21. That seems absurd to say at any time, whether it was last November or now. Bryce Harper, Jameson Taillon and Manny Machado all would be in this year's top 10. Harper would go #1 though Cole, Rendon and Bundy (and arguably Bauer) are better thought of then Taillon and Machado. Check that one more time.

  23. What are you talking about? This team has been terrible and he's been good. I was referring to the first half last year. Maybe the rest of the team realized how [expletive] stupid it was to demote him to the pen after 3 starts last year.
