  1. Theriot was a .271/.355/.337 minor league hitter and a .285/.348/.355 major league hitter. His best season in the minors was .304/.365/.391 and his best season in the majors was .307/.387/.359. So almost exactly the same hitter. I really don't think it's that unusual for a low strikeout, low power player to have their minor league numbers translate pretty well to the majors. They aren't dependent on pitcher mistakes to generate power and they tend to hit line drives that will fall in on any level. Guys like Theriot and Barney are perfectly acceptable for a good team to have at the 7-8 spot in the lineup, maybe even 6. When the manager decides that they're more than that is when the wiser fans begin to turn on them. To build on this, a team can win with them in the 7-8 spots, but they shouldn't actively use this as a reason to acquire/keep status quo with players like this.
  2. I like the fake death idea. Any volunteers?
  3. Theriot's gotta be fairly close to that doesn't he? He had the mitigating factor of being a switch hitter at earlier stops though.
  4. #2 on a per/start basis.
  5. No I meant half of what he paid for it, which is quite the loss. Yes I realize the debt is from the purchase. But when the stadium half full it becomes an issue to pay back what was borrowed You said he bought the Cubs for half of what they're worth, so fine let's subtract the 180 from 845(total purchase price of Cubs + Wrigley + CSN share) and you've got 665. You think the Cubs were worth 333M?? What the hell kind of math are you people discussing? QMG said Ricketts paid twice what the Cubs are worth. The purchase was 845M for Cubs/Wrigley/25% of CSN. He posted a link referencing that the CSN share was valued at 180M back when Zell was owner. (845-180)/2 = what QMG apprasies the worth of the Cubs as.

  7. The fact that Garza is 29 is meanginless? Prospects exist to be cost-effective players in the majors as well as to turn into ready-made good-great major leaguers. They probably overpaid a little, but the fact that they traded prospects for a major league player that isn't Evan Longoria doesn't mean they aren't committed to developing the farm system.
  8. you're kidding, right? the world would open up for rose and he would be able to do whatever he wants on the court. Except make a 3.
  9. So you think the Cubs are worth 245M... I think Ricketts gets a big old incomplete. The debt issue pertains to the actual purchase, he's not McCourting the club into debt
  10. Do you guys think the Phillies, Tigers, and Nationals will be scaling back payroll, or is it just the Cubs that this spells trouble for their current levels of expenditure?
  11. What do you think the Bulls would be giving up for Howard that would make his acquisition less valuable than Stephen JacksoN?
  12. I think Hendry missed Hendry saying that. http://www.csnchicago.com/05/25/11/-font-color--blackbEXCLUSIVEbfont-Cashne/kapman_article.html?blockID=528834&feedID=619 Hendry must've had his fingers in his ears when he said it.
  13. When they're ready to decrease his value to the team.
  14. If you have a different thread for every movie somebody wants to discuss, or every new band you want to bring up, topics would fall off the front page after a day, and it fosters less discussion. If you go into the movie thread to talk about Bridesmaids, and you see a discussion on what a waste of time Eyes Wide Shut is, you can chime in and dicuss a topic you wouldn't normally have thought to post about. If you go into the music thread to say you heard a song by some hipster band you liked, you can have somebody come along and agree, you see recs by them and you discover a new band.
  15. Thanks CCP, I know I'd read elsewhere that the Cubs spent a fairly standard amount on amateurs, but didn't know where to find that info.
  16. I'm stunned there are only 19 comments of idiocy on the Trib article (Well, more like 14 comments of idiocy and 5 that understand what this means) Pretty much a non-story.
  17. I think Hendry missed Hendry saying that.
  18. I haven't watched much beyond the last 5 minutes last night, but isn't Chandler guarding him? That should be part of the difference.
  19. fffffffffffffffffffffffffff
  20. I have no idea how that yahoo article is supposed to back up your assertion that the Cubs + 25% of CSN = 425M
  21. Your blurb about Simpson implies we haven't spent money on prospects, this is false. You admit that most would make a proposal to bleed money from the state, Selig probably writes the damn thing into your ownership agreement, "get more free money" I am literally speechless that people care about Undercover [expletive] Boss And to wrap it up, you believe the Cubs + 25% stake in CSN is worth 425M.
  22. And some [expletive] terrible defense? How do you play 1 on 1 on their best player there?
  23. What a [expletive] look
