  1. Truffle's worried something good is about to happen to the Cubs, so he's creating fantasy scenarios where we lose one of our best young players
  2. at least one person in this thread has said that getting epstein could be more important than signing fielder or pujols, and everyone seems to agree that a good GM is really important, much more so than a manager. so why is it unreasonable for the red sox to ask for cashner when the marlins just gave up two of their top 5 prospects (coming into 2011, though their stock had slipped) for a lousy manager, and tampa gave up randy winn coming off a 5 win season to get piniella? Beacuse Guillen wasn't being promoted and the Cubs weren't tampering? And Chuck LaMar is nowhere near our organization. it's a promotion, but the GM title is most important and given that the GM is the most important position in a sports organization, the red sox would have been completely justified in telling the cubs to [expletive] off and come back after next season when his contract is up. Epstein seems to think it's pretty important to not have some megalomaniac as president above him, so I'd say president is most important. They would have been justified in the sense that he's under contract to them and they can do whatever they want. They wouldn't have been with regards to professional courtesy which has been granted for roughly forever.

  4. That would be make sense, considering what the Sox got for Guillen. I'm kind of expecting that we've seen the last of Josh Vitters once this deal goes through if that's all they want, super-awesome. i'm going to throw a random guess out there and say that the cubs give up cashner. That's a terrible guess.
  5. So will KU just forfeit this weekend? Honestly. They probably just should. I can't imagine what the final score will be. Probably similar to this. http://www.dominick.ws/photos/Fran%2077-0.jpg I bet I'll get blamed for this.
  6. There is all kinds of stupid at work here. First off, the Cubs scored the 8th most runs in the NL this year and had the 8th highest OPS. They are average. You can compete with that (Philly and Atlanta did). Add a superstar to that lineup while replacing a mediocre guy and you are going to have a respectable offense. The Cubs have sucked for two straight years, why would you want to go through that again? One higher draft pick is not worth sucking when those draft picks are such longshots to contribute anyway. Its hard to see how Pujols or Fielder could turn the mess we had on the field this year into a playoff team. Maybe your right. Id also add, its not just the offense thats weak. The starting rotation needs 2 or 3 more arms as well. So in spite of gooney's post we're gonna go ahead and stick with "The offense is weak?"
  7. I don't think anyone was claiming he was on the level of the fine sports journalists in the city.
  8. The Cubs were a middle of the road offense last year. ETA: Dammit gooney
  9. Let's just hope Castro doesn't develop a debilitating cocaine habit.
  10. Hanley was the same age as Castro is now and put up a .271/.335/.385 when traded. Oh at AA.
  11. Theo probably knows he's no good at free agency and is trying to get Ricketts to lower the payroll.
  12. It's not semantics when somebody tries to make an idiotic point. Based on what some clueless hack said on the radio.
  13. I'll give you one guess what the Twins payroll was this season And they missed the postseason. Huh. I guess spending more wasn't the solution. Think of how much better they'd have been if they just spent less.
  14. I hope somebody asks if he's at the top of the Cubs list.
  15. This is fairly well known information. If Shaer had a history of breaking Cubs news (or any news for that matter), you'd have a point. SAS is a loudmouth buffoon, but he's always been close with players, and been able to get information. Tom Shaer is a generic Chicago sports buffoon
  16. Just saying something totally irrelevant
  17. Man that was a fun time. If only North went to jail.
  18. Why not? 3 years as an excellent starter in a very hitter's-friendly ballpark. Much less wear and tear on his body than the usual 31-year-old starter due to him having been a reliever. Jon Lieber was also a relatively young arm with little wear on his arm when Dusty Baker gave him the rain delay treatment and within a year or so he was under the knife. That was Baylor.
  19. I'm not sure Shaer has even had a job since being loosely tied to the Webio ponzi scheme
  20. Well no, it's pretty much never acceptable for the Cubs to have the 13th highest payroll in baseball. Unless we just happen to have elite prospects all over the diamond/mound developed at the same time, the payroll should never drop that low.
  21. I want to hear more about how our 2003 payroll proves we can win with a 100M payroll.
  22. The Chicago sports media are too full of dumb bastards to be able to think about two things at once. They hear that Ricketts wants to develop from within and assume that must be all he's going to focus on.
  23. Yep, it was probably Trot Nixon that convinced him to sign on as GM.
