I just used the frightening new bodog spawn. I'm never gonna put any new money into it, but I figure I'll try and double up a few times and get out, or zero out. I hadn't deposited in 2 years, so that money's already out of sight out of mind. ETA: And I just got rejected by my friend's bookie, so yeah, if anyone wants to suggest one that doesn't get horrible reviews(BetUS), that'd be great.

Davis has been on MLB rosters for 12 seasons was he a better pitcher in '07 or '09 than he was this past season? what made him effective in those seasons and a pitching machine this year? I don't know, old age? Injuries? Davis was horrendous over 17 starts in the past 2 years? Why should I care what he did 5 seasons ago? why would i do that? Because he had a higher WAR. Either you believe the logic giving Davis 0.7 WAR and Wood 0.5 WAR is sound, or you think there's an issue here. -
Doug Davis' FIP was 3.86, though. Yeah. That's my point. 3.86 is not a good representation of Doug Davis's abilities.

Horrendous pitchers who are throwing batting practice can't be judged by their peripherals. FIP(or whatever else you want to use) work because guys like Davis aren't usually pitching on major league rosters. When you're using these #s to determine how valuable one of these pitching machines is it's flawed.

Wood and Volstad get the spots. Wells as a No. 6 I can live with. Why should Volstad get a spot over Wells?

This says a lot more about certain flaws in fWAR than it does about each player's value.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the 40 man situation. I could see being annoyed if you're Wood being told you have to wait until they clear up the roster situation for you to fit in.

You can budget it that way, but you literally should never actually pay a guy 4.8 one year then 2.7 the next. If your trade partner in year 2 views the guy at 1/2.7 as a good value, then you pick up 2.1 of the contract. No, not literally never. If you have a budget this year but for a variety of reasons are not going to use the entire budget, it can make a lot of sense to front load a deal, especially if you foresee bigger spending next year. That doesn't support your "literally never" comment. Huh? I'm saying never hand over 4.8M to an employee when you can hand them 2.7M and put 2.1M into a CD.

We don't have an undisciplined general manager anymore. We don't need to worry about the GM making dumb moves due to misunderstanding a smart concept.

It *always* makes sense. Giving someone $4 million this year and $3 million next year is paying them more value than reversing the two years. If you're saying TVM for the player side, that's an entirely different discussion and not related to a team's annual payroll. Why would TVM only matter from the player side?
