  1. What were the others? Memphis (RPI: 28) on a neutral court, Minnesota (38), Northwestern (25), Wisconsin (46), and now Michigan State (6). Also since they were talked about above, the great Iowa State (51). RPI is stupid but the selection committee thinks its important. No they really don't.
  2. What were the others?
  3. Yeah, but on the flipside there's bumstalgic reasons to root against them.
  4. Yes, it turns out ISU is actually a 4 year university. I was surprised too.
  5. It was a lot easier for these ISU players to be player of the year contenders when they were at their respective JUCOs
  6. Nobody "wants" him, at least not in a fan sense. The general consensus is that he's a vastly overpaid, flawed player on the downside of his career. On the flip-side, the talk seems to be that he's a popular and likeable player amongst his teammates, so it's not like he's "not wanted" here outside of the front office looking to move him if possible. It's not like he's going to be showing up every day and everyone is shunning him and treating him like [expletive] because Theo and Hoyer would like to move him. If the Cubs have a trade lined up for Soriano, then obviously some other team wants him. That's the whole premise of this discussion. Right now Soriano is an employee his bosses desperately wish they could get rid of. He's not wanted. They'd much rather give the job (and especially the salary) to somebody else. If you don't imagine it might be difficult to go to work every day under those circumstances, then we may as well just be done talking about this. I think we should keep pretending like a baseball team operates the same way as a normal employer.
  7. Allen's contract isn't bad. I think he could fetch a decent amount of talent without having to take on a bad contract in return (the only issue is how receptive teams are to a rental). They'd have a really hard time finding a Garnett deal that would work. I'm not saying give up right now. But I think that should be a significant option by March. Limping into the playoffs as the 7 or 8 seed and hoping the very old roster can somehow turn it on in the playoffs and immediately beat one of the two favorites doesn't seem to me to be a great risk. Not being able to sign West in free agency and then immediately losing Green really hurt. It depends if they're limping or coasting into the playoffs. I'll just have to trust that they know the difference.
  8. It's 12 games, 3 of which their best player was out for. Boston looked like a juggernaut for most of last year. Throwing in the towel after 12 games would be insane. Boston's sole goal this season should be to be healthy by mid-April. With the NBA's salary cap structure, I have no idea how you could trade Garnett or Allen for anything of worth anyway.
  9. Maybe to you. But the general consensus from management from the sessions I attended indicated Volstad would be the 5th starter. I'd pick Volstad too. That doesn't mean that he's a clear standard deviation better than Wells, or that the team potentially wouldn't be better served by letting Wells start the year in the rotation. They are close enough that ST performance(not statistics) could make a difference. Why? What am I missing from Volstad? Are we sticking with the assumption that Volstad's defense was that horrendous?
  10. Bleacher Nation's recap of the event did mention something about the VIP section at the bar or the party (can't remember which) being filled with every 20-something female in a cocktail dress. No wonder some of these dudes who look like they have no interest in being there show up. I know a girl who was doing stuff with the Cubs all weekend. Dempster's charity event, Convention with a few guys. I'll just say I'd be far from shocked.
  11. You're going to drive yourself crazy if you spend all season worrying about Boston knocking the Bulls out in the first round.
  12. They're in 9th and have played 11 games. I'm not too worried about missing the playoffs because of the Cavs taking the spot.
  13. After the first deletion I responded laughing about his "grow up" comment. He sent me the same message, telling me to stay out of the thread, and grow up. He's the worst.
  14. They're certainly not top 10 good. I hope they finish undefeated to see how high they climb in the polls, and to see what the committee does with them.
  15. I hope it collapses on Loria the next time he walks by it
  16. With an offense as dominating as the one we saw today, obviously an average defense would be enough to lock down a super bowl.
  17. Did they? It is listed as a home game for Purdue. It was the same day and stadium when you played ND.
  18. I wouldn't assume any road win in the Big Ten, and Nebraska isn't that terrible. Two of their better players were out for their first 3 Big Ten games.
  19. Don't abuse the meme
