  1. So 1 guy who'll crack the BA top 100(maybe?) this year. Considering they didn't even spend their top draft pick on a SP, thats pretty good. With legit possibilities of multiple guys from my list becoming those type prospects at some point. How many teams do you think have legit possibilities of multiple pitchers becoming top 100 prospects? 25 or so?
  2. I think it's more complex than that. The team's uncertain burden for the Wrigley renovations might mitigate a lot of the WGN money considering what percentage of the total TV contract it is. So we can't spend money until 2019? I didn't say that, I'm just saying there's more factors at play than just "we can be pretty darn sure more money is coming, so we shouldn't have to wait to invest it". But if the WGN money is mitigated by renovations, isn't that the case?
  3. That scenario also figures in another terrible team in 2013 meaning we have to make up 25 wins in one offseason in order to not punt 3 consecutive years.

  6. Re: TV Money It's ridiculous that we feel the need to wait until the WGN deal expires to spend the money we'll be getting from them? Like we can't project what kind of revenue bump is going to come with the new deal?
  7. I'm on the fence. They screwed the pooch hard in 2012. They're halfway to something not-awful in 2013, but we'll see if they have the will and skill to finish that job. If they don't make some very savvy moves in the remaining half-offseason, they are putting themselves in an awfully bad spot for 2014 as well. But they make enough good moves that I get the impression that when they decide they want to turn it on, it might be impressive. For 2015 and beyond, I'm sure we'll get to the point where the team is pretty good for an extended stretch. But I don't think the other teams in the division are going to just roll over and let us win six straight or anything, so I'm not sure we're actually going to get good bang for our buck ultimately. If you have something like 3 tanked seasons, then 4 division titles in 8 years, have you really come out ahead? Definitely, because you're giving yourself a legitimate chance every year instead of just hoping things work out. If they're in the hunt, they can add pieces each year and the 2 wild cards always gives you another chance even if you don't win the division every year. 4 out of 11 is a miserable failure for this front office.
  8. Absolutely. The fact that they actually have a concrete plan and direction for the first time in 20+ years is refreshing. And it's nice to root for a team that actually has a front office/minor league infrastructure on par with the rest of the league and not lagging decades behind. The fact that they might lose a lot of games next year doesn't bother me at all, considering they were losing a lot of games before Theo got here. I feel like that's taking it a bit far. The fact that they have been losing lots of games recently shouldn't make it not matter to you that they lose now and in the short term future. Saying we didn't have a plan or direction under MacPhail is also misleading.
  9. Yeah, it's not like it's been talked about for the last 20 years or so.
  10. We're trying to find a way to fit them into a 70M payroll. Way too late for that. Once we fill out the roster, we're basically at $90 million. I guess we're going to have to sell the McDonald's

  12. Oh great, let's talk about this for another 50 pages.
  13. Does Tom Ricketts have a debilitating cocaine habit or something? Why are we solely picking up scraps?
  14. How has anything from the Cubs been impressive this offseason? Our 2014 team is the same [expletive] sandwich it was 2 months ago. Except for the massively upgraded pitching staff. Yes, they've certainly done a great job massively upgrading the pitching for one season.

  16. I swear Correia pitched every game I went to in 2011. Even the ones that weren't against the Pirates.
  17. I don't know, how mad was your ex?
  18. This is utterly baffling. The value of this package and the one they received are at very least even, yet they were only going to give up Myers. Niese is under control long term and a good #3 while Wheeler is an extremely good pitching prospect who may have legitimate #1 upside. So there's that deal that was reportedly turned down. I think they also asked for a Dickey for Myers swap that was rejected. Anderson for Myers was rejected. Lester for Myers was rejected, too, I think. There must be something rotten about Myers that front offices aren't thrilled about. Dickey for Myers seems like the worst of them all for the Royals, including the Tampa trade.
  19. It'd be about right since every other advantage we should have is being taken away.
  20. building a team by spending money isn't fun
  21. I didn't even know division 2 players were eligible
  22. Gruden to Texas tech?
  23. I'm not sure Cano will accept 1/8m with incentives
  24. I thought you were a Texas state fan, not bama
