    Team Valuations from Bloomberg Don't know if there's a better place for this, but here goes. Cliffs: -Cubs 6th most valuable franchise at 1.32 Billion. -4th in 2013 Revenue, 5M less than the Dodgers Excuses why we can't spend money -6th overall in media revenue -Only 7M separating the top parking revenue team(Dodgers) from the Cubs (3M) -5 teams with >10M advantage in sponsorship. NL Central Revenues Cubs: 320M Cardinals: 250M Reds: 205M Brewers: 205M Pirates: 185M In what seems a rare occurence in baseball accounting, both the A's and Giants dispute their team valuation here, stating it should be even higher.

    If we're spending like we are now in order to cover that contract up front I'd come close to forgiving PoorTomRicketts.

    I voted yes, but to imply it's impossible to say no is silly. You could lead with 197 losses over 2 seasons and quite unlikely to compete in season 3.

    It's not a matter of having to let him go. I don't see it as very likely we'll contend in 2014 and I'm not at all confident Shark is ever going to be more than he is right now. I'll take the very solid prospect package and the extra 15-20 mill he'll be getting in a few years to spend elsewhere. To not spend elsewhere I actually think we will use it to spend on signing some of the prospects to contract extensions (Yes, this is assuming some of them pan out), which is the plan I like better anyway. Free agency pretty much blows and is not the way I want to build a team. So we lock up Baez and Bryant to 5/35 contracts, what do we do with the other money? You can only spend so much on Josh Johnson and Ryan Church

    I said that three years ago when everyone thought every contract was so hilarious and every gm was so stupid but we got Scott baker for 5m so we're all good.

    Frank Thomas was drafted in 1989. The 1990 Top 100 was the first Top 100 he could appear. He had 223 PAs at A ball in 1989, hitting 4 HRs. He most certainly was not a lock for the majors in 1990.

    According to Marlin, he says both Shark and Castro are likely on the block this offseason. I've thought Shark had a decent chance of getting dealt if he won't sign longterm. Castro? You make an argument it makes sense, I guess. Assuming you're counting on Javy and Alcantara.(not the greatest argument obviously) That said, after the down year, I seriously doubt the offers are remotely close to get the FO to move him. They just want to dump the salary.

    He was pretty damn fun to watch last night. Had it on in the background, and rewound every time Stacy King lost his mind. Probably would've been faster to just watch it live.
