  1. Cal, could you expand a bit on your interest in Al Alb? He just likes his name.
  2. I think we'd be hypocrites not to as long as Rob Fick's name is still an unmentionable. Although, A-Rod has done slightly more in the baseball department since his slap.
  3. Hard to be bitter when your team is actually in the playoff race. oh zing...the great $100 mil cubs are a game over .500 and 4 1/2 games ahead of the $30 mil pirates. you sure showed him. And yet the Cubs are still very much in the playoff race while the Pirates are still pretty much out of it. Man I'll sure feel dumb if my team with a way bigger payroll only does a little bit better than them but makes the playoffs. Whatever was I thinking!? frankly, i'll find it pretty pathetic if the cubs win 88 games or whatever, even if they do win the division. i'll obviously be very happy that they're in the playoffs, as anything could happen, but shooting for 90 wins is a pretty pathetic goal. All things being equal and the Cubs having that payroll advantage, I'd agree. But from this point forward shooting for a 46-29 finish isn't too pathetic.
  4. It's important to realize that Hafner will be 32-35(young 32-35, birthday 6/3, but still 32-35) during this extension. I think it'll probably wind up being pretty fair for both sides, but I wouldn't call this a slam dunk win for the Indians. There also has to be a slight value adjustment that he's completely incapable of playing the field.
  5. Well it's no debate on the relative villainry of Alex Rodriguez.
  6. And this is neither. Nilo summed up well what I've been trying to put into words all day.
  7. Remind you of anyone we know? Who?
  8. Where's your proof that Ichiro is providing this huge boon to Seattle in revenue or are you just assuming it? The year Ichiro debuted with Seattle they won 116 games and drew a shade over 3.5M in attendance. The following year it was ~3.54M Since then the attendance has steadily declined all the way down to ~2.48M last year.
  9. Albert is less than thrilled
  10. Because no team could use a .359/.410 hitter with a little pop, a lot of speed. great defense, and a good arm who sells a ton of merchandise and opens up a huge potential fan base? He may be expensive....but I'll take Ichiro at that # and not think twice about it....Rickey Henderson averaged a .400+ OBP for another 10 years past Ichiro's current age...There's no real reason to believe that Ichiro won't put up a .320 average with a .375+ OBP steal 30+ Bases and score 110 runs for the next 5 years...those are numbers that would make him very valuable to just about any team 20M valuable?
  11. That's cause you weren't his girlfriend.
  12. 5/90-100 Wonder if this offseason is going to make last year's spending look tame.
  13. Why would the Phillies do that deal? Cause they irrationally hate Pat Burrell even more than they irrationally hated Bobby Abreu. I'm not a huge fan of picking up Burrell as long as Soriano's gonna stay in LF, but Burrell is essentially the Phillies's Jacque Jones, he's gonna get dealt for virtually nothing and the Phils are gonna pick up most of his salary. The deal mentioned would be the only way I would want Burrell. Burrell is Dave Kingman with a bat and Jose Conseco with the glove. Isn't that just Dave Kingman then?

  15. No kidding. Dude is on pace to hit..what...59-60 HR, he has an insane OBP, and an OPS over 1.000 that (unlike Bonds) is not driven by IBB. I don't see why Bonds should be punished for having an ungodly OBP due to IBBs. And you forgot to mention ARod playing at a more demanding position than Ordonez.
  16. I voted for Chase, but can't believe that Bonds has only 1 vote.
  17. Just wondering, but what puts Vlad above ARod? Or Ordonez? I'd put VMart ahead of him too. That out of a catcher is pretty sick.
  18. That escalator clause and his 10/5 rights will make trading him next to impossible, imo. Did they give him the escalator clause? I thought the Sox said no to that. That's what ESPN is saying: What about 2008? Buehrle for 5/75 isn't the worst thing in the world.
  19. Your math and optimism is all over. 3-4 at Houston and Colorado, but sweeping Milwaukee and St. Louis? My math has you at 90-71.(Phillies/Mets series should be 4-3 not 4-2.)
  20. I don't know what the hell has been wrong with Jones all year, but I'm starting to convince myself that the best thing for this season alone might be Jones in CF against RHP.
  21. How many Rich Harden jokes do you see around here?
