  1. Looks like you forgot Utah in the Pac-12
  2. To be clear we're ranking the bottom 16 from the list of 70 above right?
  3. I thought Nova was sneaky great all year, but I'm still having trouble putting them over Wisconsin for that 4th 1 seed. (I've got Kentucky, Duke, UVA locked in that order) I do have a pretty substantial drop off after these 5.
  4. It's all the ex-Great West, i.e. worst teams in the NCAA without a conference right? Chicago State and...Utah Valley St?
  5. obviously because who the [expletive] wastes their time with stupid ass bunts when you have a good hitter hitting instead of the awful pitcher Joe Maddon?
  6. Isn't Navarro their 3rd catcher? ETA: He is, and Josh Thole is the backup who is Dickey's personal knuckleball catcher, something Castillo would almost certainly be terrible at.
  7. There can't even be that many of those teams. ISU and Evansville beat Wichita and UNI once apiece, then a couple teams with a win apiece over bubble teams. That's literally all I can find.
  8. Manhattan in, Iona lost to a slew of non-tourney teams, and beat none.
  9. Wofford survives. Northeastern keeps William & Mary tourney drought alive. Even if Wofford blew out Furman, I don't think I'd have them above any at-large teams. 1 win over a potential tourney team in NCST, and losses to William & Mary, Chattanooga, and one of the worst teams in D1, The Citadel. Northeastern with 11 losses to non-tourney teams is an obvious non-starter
  10. MAAC, CAA, and SoCon give away bids today. Wofford is playing the last place team in the Championship, so they should really be out with a loss.
  11. Murray is a non-starter for me. Best win vs. ISU. Losses to Houston, Valpo, Portland, and Belmont.
  12. Digital Autonomous Variegated Integrational Database http://38.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lmgeu8259I1qbbqf3o1_500.gif
  13. Really? I think Amaro is stupid enough to think that buying a really fast computer could check off his lack of analytical knowledge. He can call the computer Chuck Wasserstrom.
  14. Tell me what on Earth you could need the processing speed of a supercomputer. The benefit is how quick data can be transmitted. There is simply no need for computing data that quickly unless you think we've got all our players armed with bluetooths to be told when to swing and at what trajectory. i think maybe you have no idea what you're talking about. the value of a box like this is that you can run your whole operation on them; i.e. store, manage, consume all of your data, run applications in parallel, as well as user access, etc. it's a huge task, and to be honest, 500k isn't really all that crazy of a spend for a super-specialized stack like this What's the benefit of it beyond near instantaneous processing speed? Who the [expletive] knows? We know nothing about it other than it is super expensive. You really think a bunch of guys that (I would presume) you believe to be fairly intelligent, thoughtful people just spent half a million on a computer simply because "it goes real fast?" I don't think the Cubs bought it. As my original post on the topic stated, I think it was by a group who I don't find to be fairly intelligent when it comes to analytics.

There is simply no need for computing data that quickly unless you think we've got all our players armed with bluetooths to be told when to swing and at what trajectory. man if only you had been able to tell theo this before his ill-fated purchase. Ok, Brett you dont see anything hilarious about someone with no idea whatsoever complaining about a purchase that we dont even know was real because it wasn't necessary despite not having any idea what it might be used for or why? I wasn't complaining about the purchase as I don't think it was us. I read the stories on it when it was first reported a year ago, and read the comments on how unnecessary it was. I personally can't fathom what such instantaneous processing would be needed for. Maybe I'm wrong.

  18. Unless it's being relayed to the players at the point of contact, there's no need for that kind of speed. Spitballing, but maybe for VR-esque training stuff? Agreed that there's no significant benefit to having a supercomputer just to have a supercomputer, although I haven't followed the story so maybe that label is just marketing silliness than actual distinction. Could maybe see that as far as muscle memory on pitching mechanics?
  19. why Because the processing speed of a supercomputer is unnecessary for baseball analytics. Just a thought. What about real time mechanics analysis at the major and/or minor league levels. Since they've outfitted all the parks with live video feeds, visible in Chicago, why can't they be fed into the supercomputer, analyzed, and milliseconds later a swing deviation, arm angle, release point deviation, be noticed? Then the information be pushed to the manager/relevant coach's communication device, for immediate correction. I don't believe that process needs to be executed in milliseconds. A hitter is going to have a good half hour in between ABs. A pitcher has a good 10 minutes between innings.

  23. Tunney is a braying jackass, but he's not wrong.
  24. A supercomputer would be a waste of money. It's something the Phillies would buy to show people they're into analytics.
