  1. Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you're saying but you think Penn St. has passed Illinois as a basketball program? Yow. I said before the season started Penn St. had an outside chance at being a tourney team. This is still a terrible loss, but this isn't some great revelation that Penn St. is having it's annual 1 year a decade where they don't suck at basketball.
  2. Eric Patterson doesn't have much trade value right now. While Marshall isn't a prospect anymore, his value is really high...it's quite a bit to give up for an improvement at an already steady position (giving up two potential starters and our only hedge against a full year of Theriot at SS). You don't think Beane might take the slightest of interest in Murton or Patterson (considering they might deal Ellis, and Beane isn't crazy about defense)? Yeah, they've kept Mark Kotsay around for his awesome bat. I'm sure teams were dying to add his 8 million salary to their payroll. I'm sure you've read the book, Beane will sacrifice defense for certain hitting characteristics. Kotsay was acquired by Beane at one point, primarily for his defense. Jay Payton, Mark Ellis, Marco Scutaro, Milton Bradley, Chris Singleton. They've played quite a few guys primarily for their defense.

  4. We seriously might miss the NIT now. This sucks ass.
  5. Will Jan 09 be THAT much better? I can't imagine why IG responds to you with shots at Sampson when you ask questions. Illinois under Weber is a guard oriented team. Adding Legion and Smith are huge additions. We'll infinitely increase the number of guys on the team who can make a damn jump shot.
  6. Seriously January '09. PLZ.
  7. I wish Mark Grace would go away forever.
  8. I agree. SSR, I don't disagree but it's questionable to go for 2 after the 10-yard penalty. GJ, Jaguars! Was not aware there was a penalty. They went for 2 from the 13 yard line? That's dumb
  9. I'm usually hardcore against early 2 pt tries(though somewhat pro going for it every time.) But I think going for it with 10 minutes left was the right call. And obviously, it was the right call last score. Of course I haven't been watching the game at all.
  10. Weeks was a stud in the 2nd half. Our offense is not going to be what makes us better than the Brewers. Weeks was a stud in the 2nd half, after being a complete dud in the first half. So much so, he got sent down. So which Weeks will show up? DeRosa's numbers wont be that far from Weeks. I agree our offense wont be what makes us better than the Brewers, but I dont think there will be as large as gap this year as there was last year. Weeks had an injured wrist the first half I believe.

  12. By 10. Nah, we'll win this one.
  13. I'm sorry, I know I've been pointed in the right direction before, but don't know it off the top of my head where to find it, but was this far out of range with his LD%(I'm guessing it was)
  14. Go ahead and keep thinking that. Kendall had one month where he was something other than completely worthless. He sucked the rest of the time. He's a 33 year old catcher with a ton of miles on him already, who will turn 34 next year. He's had some horrible injuries in his career and is a completely useless catcher behind the plate. He sucks. It would be difficult for Soto to be as bad. This, prepare yourself for the worst Ender, and hope Yost has the intelligence(yow) to bench him when he sucks.
  15. He addresses defense later on in the article. The lineup comparison was strictly hitting. My only objection with lineup would be Fukudome/Hart being a push, but that's off the top of my head without looking at Hart's minor leauge #s. I seemed to remember him playing over his head relative to what was expected last year.
  16. Yeah that's a pretty huge limb assuming Gonzalez and De Los Santos as #3 pitchers. It's dangerous to assume them as viable major leaguers at all. The one thing Oakland does have to help explain things is that their corners were pretty full with Cust, Barton, and Buck already on the team.
  17. Fukudome Lee Ramirez Soriano Soto DeRosa Pie Cedeno
  18. It's not a best future as major leaguer award. Nomo was better in '95.
  19. Bellhorn was a different trade, coming here for Adam Morrissey, who never hit the majors. Hinske was traded for Miguel Cairo and the right to send Scott Chiasson to the minors. I don't know the specifics of how those trades are worded, I guess it would technically be, Chiasson is returned to Oakland as a previous Rule 5 pick, Hinske is then traded for Miguel Cairo, and Chiasson.
  20. Swisher is signed through '12. I really don't understand dealing him now. It's bizarre. It's also bizarre for the Sox to be dealing away their top 2 prospects before a season that they have no chance to contend. Swisher is going to be good for awhile though, so the Sox win this one. It seems like payroll constraints have finally caught up to Beane, and he's looking a little too long term as a result. I don't know if he's rolling over money from the current payroll, to build up a legit payroll 2 years down the road, but if he's not given the money to compete, he's never gonna catch the Angels.
  21. Does Frazier have some kind of blackmail material on Weber? That guy is atrocious. He has been a really good defender. Butler made him look foolish tonight though. And beyond that, defense is not this team's problem. Having anyone on the damn court who can do something offensively is the problem. Frazier should be the energy guy off the bench. If Randle gets in foul trouble guarding the opponent's best player, then you bring in Frazier to defend him, but there's no reason for him to be playing over McCamey at this point.
  22. 1-11 for Trent Meacham on the night. 6 TOs for Frazier. Pretty much all of them on mind-numbing decisions.
