  1. Brett Favre plays awesome in cold weather.
  2. I say just shoot for Bedard using Pie++. That's what we should do...Z,Bedard,Lilly,Hill,Lieber would be a sick rotation..Then sign Lofton or play Fuld out there..With that rotation, I would not mind the lineup one bit.. Ditto. Sign Lofton, maybe acquire Byrd or someone who can hit lefties good on the cheap. Then use Lofton and Fuld against righties (since Lofton will probably need a few days off), and Byrd or someone against the lefties. Then you'd still have Colvin in the wings, assuming he can up his walks. We'd probably split up the righties and lefties though, and go something like: Bedard Zambrano Lilly Lieber Hill which would be amazing. Bedard Zambrano Lilly Lieber Hill Bedard Zambrano Lilly Lieber Hill You can't "split up" 3 lefties.
  3. Yeah but Theriot is the shot in the head and Cedeno is the shot in the groin. With Theriot you have almost certain death, while Cedeno has the potential for you to live a normal healthy life. When the season starts Ronny Cedeno will STILL be younger than Theriot was when he made his major league debut in '05.
  4. These contracts are always a good idea. Every now and then you wind up with an Angel Berroa out of it, but they're for so little money that you can afford to have 2 that go bust for everyone that works out.
  5. WtF does Chester Frazier have on him?
  6. Nah they deserve 4. Ohio St. is a tourney team. The thing is the SEC is horrible this year too, there's gonna be some Big 6 school getting in that just confuses the hell out of everyone as to why they're there.
  7. Oh and sorry Weske.
  8. 7 for 2 seriously? Gallagher, Marshall, Cedeno, Murton, Patterson, who else??
  9. A brief comparison from 2002-2007: GM 'A'- 474-498(20 games under .500) 2-95+ loss seasons, 0 90+ wins season, 0 WS Appearances GM 'B'- 511-461(50 games over .500) 1-90 loss season, 2-90+ win seasons, 1 WS Victory I believe MacPhail was still GM in the offseason before '02. And Williams has done a spectacular job of setting up the White Sox to be awful for the next couple years.
  10. Why do I bother? Illinois plays a good 1st half, blows it in the 2nd half off of foul trouble and the inability to make free throws or keep Chester Frazier tied up in the locker room. Part 10.
  11. Rich pretty much did what Ted did last year.
  12. Hendry was asked at the lunch-in about Marshall and replied "He's not going anywhere". That, combined with the reports that the players rumored in the Roberts trade was false, may give credit to that statement. Then on the other side of the ledger you have Steve Trachsel. Wasn't Marshall supposedly struggling from fatigue, or am I making things up? Nope, you are remembering correctly. Apparently, due to Marshall's injury history, he hadn't built up much stamina when it comes to pitching over the course of a season, so he just sort of lost it towards the end of last year. Anyone who thinks Hendry likes Traschel over Marshall or doesn't "like" Marshall because of that hurried acquisition late last season alone isn't basing their opinions in reality. Now there may be other reasons, but that trade is not one of them. If we're gonna pick out when Marshall started pitching poorly you'd have to say his 8/2 start was the beginning of it. At that point he had pitched ~100 innings on the season. Marshall threw 150 innings the year before. If Marshall couldn't throw more than 100 innings last year without tiring what makes you think he can suddenly nearly double his workload. If he could handle more than 100 innings last year, then why was Trachsel's rotting corpse brought in?
  13. Your first point is incorrect: IU has played one good team this season (they just lost to them by 15). Surely no one would argue that IU has beaten anyone significant. They haven't. In fact, it's been an area of consternation among IU fans. Not all of it is their fault -- they did schedule Kentucky, at Southern Illinois, ACC/Big Ten Challenge and the upcoming UConn game. The season has been fun, but, for the most part, I've been pretty bored with the inevitable results. They do finally have a tough stretch coming up starting with the UConn game. I also think IU played pretty well at Michigan -- who is terrible, admittedly. That's still, at best, one good game in four. The Kentucky game was impressive considering who was missing. Ah yeah, I forgot about the suspensions/injuries for the UK game, that was impressive.
  14. It's tough to disparage Joe Garigiola Jr. when he has a ring and Hendry doesn't. No wait, Garigiola was an idiot.
  15. That isn't entirely true...he does go on sports radio, but often yes questions are softballed to him. As for KW and his WS ring, that is 3 years ago and really meaningless at this point. I have NEVER heard Hendry go on the air and take direct questions from fans. You're right, when he appears on WGN Radio, Kaplan asks fans to email questions-filters out the more controversial ones and then asks the obvious ones. How about a little give and take with the people who pay your salary, Jim? Kenny Williams at least has a plan. Funny that Jim Thome came to Wrigley and Hendry barely talked to him. Williams snapped him up pretty fast. Kenny's secret plan for '08: Finish in 4th place.
  16. Man I hate Indiana basketball. How's the weather up on there on that cross? Can some neutral party come in and explain to me what exactly raw was trying to say in his post about the Minnesota game? Can somebody explain why the non-U of I fans didn't pick up on raw's sarcasm(?) about calling IU the best 1 loss team? Get over yourselves, you've played nobody all year, and now that you've squeaked out wins over a couple NIT teams(if we're really lucky) It's not that Indiana has had a couple bad games, they haven't had a good game in Big 10 play. They haven't wowed me in any game, except maybe Kentucky, and a lot of that depends on how good Kentucky actually is, which I really don't know right now.
  17. I guess Illinois being terrible had a lot to do with that. No way that doesn't sell out this year.
  18. Mike North being wrong on something?
  19. Hendry was asked at the lunch-in about Marshall and replied "He's not going anywhere". That, combined with the reports that the players rumored in the Roberts trade was false, may give credit to that statement. Then on the other side of the ledger you have Steve Trachsel.
  20. I couldn't find a specific date for this year, but last year they went on sale in mid-June. Thnanks man, I looked all over and couldnt find a date either. I wonder how hot of a ticket this will be. Sell out or no? About 20 guys from my work are planning on trying to go. I'm thinking we could get a sellout. Season opener, both teams should be Top 15, not a far drive. I'm really looking forward to it, last year was a great atmosphere and if it's sold out this year it'd be nuts. It doesn't sell out every year?
  21. Let's turn Minnesota's badness into goodness too!! ? I read Raw's post to say IU should have won by more, but didn't, and that is concerning. No? I read it as saying normally IU should win the game by 20 points, but he's not counting Minnesota as having a brutal game as well.
  22. Count me as one surprised at the results. 21 Democrat/democrat leaning to 19 Republican/republican leaning. I expected more of a 70/30 split.
