  1. That hurts me.
  2. First basemen gotta be my RBI guys, like Steve Garvey was for me back when I played. Leadoff has gotta be a guy with some speed, someone that can make things happen on the basepaths for the RBI guys. That's why I like Hopper up there Then you got the 2 spot, you need someone who can handle the bat, a guy who can hit it to the right side for you. Castro should fit perfectly in that spot. Really makes stuff happen on the field. 3 spot is your best hitter, so obviously we'll put Griffey there. 4's gotta be your RBI man, the guy everyone's scared of on the team. Dunn's got that power and he's a big dude, we're talking football player, so he goes there. Then you gotta have some protection for the RBI man. Hatteberg's a professional hitter, I like him there. 6 and 7 I look at as my 1-2 hitters of the bottom of the lineup. Phillips has got some good speed, so I like him at 6, then Freel at the 7 spot. Having those 2 burners back to back is a luxury we have here. 8 is where your catcher bats. So we'll put ours there.
  3. I would say the caught cheater, but the question is how much more likely? I would say the added likelihood of the corker being the roider compared to a non-corker is so small it's insignificant.
  4. Can we go over the case against Sammy again? He hit a lot of HRs during what should be his power peak. He used a corked bat. He gained weight. I cover them all?
  5. It's funny how Mark Grace, who did have a messy divorce from the Cubs and was as slow as molasses around the bases, was never similarly thrown under the bus. Don't forget he never cared to keep himself in great shape or work out.
  6. This is the part of the season where Clemson loses most of its games and misses the tourney.
  7. Norris Hopper will be in CF. Freel will be at 3B.
  8. I'm probably late on the topic. But Dusty chose to face Mike Lowell instead of Lenny Harris in a tie game. I really don't know what else needs to be said about the man.
  9. I'll admit that Purdue is better than Ohio St. now. MSU and Wisconsin are both better than them, and IU probably is too.
  10. Keep hoping. Votto for Blanton? Sure. Anything more? No way Why would the A's trade Blanton for one of Cincy's bench players? And it's not like Oakland is short on first basemen. Joey Votto is a bench player for us? That's news to me. He is unless Hatteberg is hurt.
  11. Wilbon has our back, and he hates Illinois(NU grad) Tore into Mariotti about his reaction as well. Issuing an apology because of what 2 fans did? Pathetic.
  12. If Prior comes back in July-earlier it proves that he wasn't trying hard enough with the Cubs to come back from injury. If Prior comes back in September it proves he's a big smelly vagina.
  13. Didn't he retire last year and cost Cleveland a draft pick?
  14. I love the way that's phrased. Ehhh, it could be 2 of the Cubs top prospects or it could be an overpriced starter and a guy the Cubs hate for being right handed.
  15. On the other hand they pretty much hate each other too which is rather amusing. I really have no problem with Desipio, they're kind of the WSI of the Cubs world. I'm glad there is an outlet for those type of people who are also Cub fans. It does keep out the riff raff.
  16. Snipped the context discussion cause I already said I'd be fine with calling things to the letter of the law, but it's not how it's done. And yes, Pruitt gained a tiny advantage in doing such, just as every time a player fouls, there is some tiny advantage to them. I already admitted that Pruitt made a ridiculous decision in coming within 20 feet of White, I already told you why it wasn't called, unless your argument is that White was going to make his 3/4 court shot, I'm not really understanding the argument. I'm feeling querulous so I'm picking a useless argument. I'd laugh, but I don't know what querulous means, so you may have just insulted me. I'll go with a slight giggle.

  18. You think 92 wins will be enough to beat out either the Red Sox or Yankees, whichever one doesn't win the East? Before they ever start worrying about NY and Boston, they should probably worry first about Cleveland and Detroit. Yeah I'm not sure 92 wins gets you wild card runner up.
  19. And it was a different situation. Whistles are blown based on context, it's just the way it's done. Webber was trapped in a corner by UNC defenders and stopped to motion for the time out. In doing so, he could've gained an advantage and gotten out of the trap. The Arizona player called it as time was clearly about to expire, and gained no advantage in doing so.
  20. He'd look a lot worse if he shook everyone's hand and ignored Gordon. This is a kid that lied to him for months, I don't blame him for having some bad feelings towards him. I'd rather he be the better man, but I can see where he's coming from. Especially after how painful these 2 losses to IU have been.
  21. No. There should be no judgment involved. A foul is a foul is a foul. If the whistle goes in the pocket for the last minute, then it goes in for both teams. Gordon thwacked Pruitt. So, I ask you, did Pruitt foul White? (I do disagree with the call on Ellis at the end of regulation. That was a crappy call.) In fact, I'd say that Gordon's foul was quite smart since Illinois shoots free throws about as well as my dead great-grandmother. Pruitt, on the other hand, stupidly hacked DJ White when there was about zero chance of him making the shot. That's a dumb foul and if Illinois isn't at home, that probably gets called. You won't get any argument that it was a colossally stupid play by Pruitt. Seriously? We need to get a hand in the face of a center as he shoots from 3/4 court??? I'd be fine if things were called strictly to the letter of the law, but you know that's not how things are done. The new rule seems to be if it had an adverse effect, you blow the whistle, otherwise you don't. In the game we lost to Arizona earlier in the year, Arizona got the ball tied with about 1 second left at around 3/4 court and called a timeout they didn't have. The ref ignored the timeout and let the clock run out. I wasn't on here pissing and moaning about it cause come on, it didn't have any effect on how that last second was played so why end it like that. In the same manner, DJ White was not hitting a 75 foot heave, so why end it like that? It's the way things are called now, and have been for the past 10 years. To expect that call is ridiculous.
  22. Not going to scream, I agree to a point. They are 4-0 against UI, SIU, and Ill St though. So it looks silly for fans of those teams to contantly say how bad IU is. Why? I know SIU isn't that good this year. Illinois is terrible. But I have been very unimpressed with Indiana every time I watch them. It's not just Sampson. A lot of players on Indiana don't have great basketball IQ. To dumb down to Illinois' level is pretty sad. We outdumbed em in the end though!!! unguarded 10 second call from the chosen one??? HA!! We'll dribble it off our knee out of bounds!!

  24. Yeah when IDKWTI hit Pruitt in the face as he went up to shoot. Definitely clean. Gimme a break. Where, pray tell, did I say it was clean? Please, oh please, I beg you, show me where I said that it was clean. (Keep looking... you won't find it since I didn't say that.) I prefer it if you didn't put words into my mouth. Hey, call the foul, by all means -- they certainly weren't shy about it SINCE THEY CALLED THE FOUL. But don't put the whistle in your pocket going the other way. Call it both ways. Pruitt fouled White in the act of shooting. It was as plain as day. You don't see the difference between calling a foul on a 2 foot layup and a 75 foot heave by a center?
