  1. The problem with it(sorry if this has been addressed) is that in order for it to be faster you have to time your dive perfectly such that you land at just the right point. It's possible to time that dive perfectly, but most of the time you would either break stride to time the dive, or you'd dive too late and get to the bag later than if you ran through. But isn't it just as likely that you would have to break stride to step on base anyways? Yes, but I believe that's already built into the study that I'm familiar with because it's based on a comparison of a standard time running through the base, not the ideal time which is necessary of the dive. The dive has to be ideal whereas the run-through is already timed in non-ideal trials. Why is that? ...and what study are we talking about? It was from a BTF thread, lost forever I'm sure, as their search function is as archaic as they come. IIRC, the reason diving worked better in ideal situations was because of the very reason of not breaking stride and hitting the base at the front edge of it. The advantage was lost by hitting the base beyond the front of it, or by breaking stride because then it was no different than the problems posed from running through the base.

  4. Man Musberger got down on his knees for Kelvin. He wasn't praying. Seems somebody mentioned Purdue wasn't the best Big 10 team.
  5. I'd love for some ambitious person with a free week with nothing better to do to recap every inside info that has been posted by OH about this trade, and see how wildly their guarantees have varied over the past 2 months.
  6. Paul Bako's first pinch hit attempt with the game on the line is my prediction for when Reds fans turn on Dusty.
  7. get the digits?
  8. I want to change my arrogant/delusional fan base vote. he's right. iu is a reputable school with a long and rich history of excellence in men's basketball. there's nothing wrong with saying it. I don't want to harp on this too much because I don't think whoever posted it(slipping my mind at the moment) is delusional/arrogant, but the way it is phrased it is saying to me "our top coaching job is different than other top coaching jobs because we care about class and ethics here while the others don't. You have to not be a scumbag here unlike all those other places."
  9. I want to change my arrogant/delusional fan base vote.
  10. Terrible. DeRosa may be a better defensive SS.
  11. Not if Jason Marquis is the 3.
  12. No 5 star recruit is going to go play for a redass like Skiles. You can still be a top team without 5 stars, but IU would never see a Gordon or Ebanks(whoops) again if they had Skiles.
  13. This is terrible news. Jeff Loria is scum.
  14. Personally, I hope he wins 7 cy youngs to shove in the face of every douchebag Cubs fan that called him names for the past 4 years. But that's just me. I miss him already. Sorry, already addressed their response to that.
  15. Is it worth pointing out that Chris Paul sucks(going from memory, may be totally wrong) when he faces Deron's Jazz?
  16. I think the last IU coaching search is evidence enough that Indiana isn't going to get some top of the line coach in to replace Sampson. I expect it to be Dakich, and I'm fine with that.
  17. Honestly, he's been hammering IU for 7 years on every telecast. It got a little worse when Sampson became the coach, but it wasn't pretty with Davis either. Tonight has been just more of the same rhetoric with him. Would've been interesting to see how he would have handled the Illinois/IU game.
  18. Vitale's been hammering Indiana, Sampson, and Greenspan this entire game. Wonder what his take would be if not for RMK's history there. He's usually a unapologetic fanboy for just about every coach anywhere. He's not even trying to hide his contempt for Sampson.
  19. This is pretty clearly the best IU has played all year. This is also pretty clearly the worst MSU has played all year. I'm the biggest arguer you'll find about people whining about their teams having bad games at the wrong time(when in fact teams have bad games often because of the team they're playing), but my God MSU has just given this game away from about 8 minutes into the game on. I've never seen a team turn the ball over so often on alley oop attempts.
  20. 4 wins against top 25 RPI teams; I think we're going to make the tournament. I hope Sendek doesn't get a good offer because he is building a good program around the jewel, Harden. I had tickets for tonight, but I have the flu. Oh well. Also, if we can get consistent outside shooting from Kuksiks, we could be dangerous. Win 4 more(including tourney games) and you're good for me.
  21. I'm really glad I didn't go to Duke. I mean I never wanted to. But still.
  22. Actually, by 2010. To clarify, Jeff Samardzija will have 4 option years as long as he uses the 4th before his 5th full season in professional baseball. Last season was his first option year, meaning 2010 would be his 4th option year (if, of course, he's optioned in 2009 and 2010). My mistake, I didn't realize he could be optioned in '10.
  23. Thanks to his major league contract, Jeff better be ready by next year.
  24. Sampson will live to coach another game or 2.
  25. I chuckled.
