  1. I hate pointless double switching. I mean, yeah it's great to get Fontenot out of there, and to get Pie's defense in there, so I guess I'm not really talking about this move. But it annoys me when you're bringing in a guy who is clearly only going to pitch 1 inning, yet for some reason you feel the need to put him due up 9th in the next inning. Who cares??? You're not trying to get multiple innings out of him, so what does it matter if he leads off next inning?
  2. I was kinda counting on Juan Castro to be one of Dusty's dudes. Stupid Keppinger.
  3. "Should be" or "will be?" Cause, man is Ned Yost terrible at his job.
  4. Yes it is that far fetched to think you'd be banned for taking an opposing viewpoint. It's insulting to close out your post like that as well. And this wasn't your first post, it's why I thought you were a Sox fan cause you made a series of posts in the Cubs/Sox game thread a few years back and nothing else really. You have your experiences I have mine. I think I've dealt with obnoxious fans at every game I've gone to that I can recall. It's ridiculous for you to come out and say this is just your experience at the many games you've gone to; yet when people respond to you about their experiences at the many games they've gone to, they're just being blind homers.(Unless they agree with your point, then their opinions are valid)
  5. You can't? Look at his legs. The pictures are from different angles.
  6. The statistical profile thing doesn't work for me. Sosa was always regarded as a guy with prodigous power potential. He entered his peak and hit a ton of HRs after hitting a lot of HRs in the years before. Then he went through his peak, hit his decline phase at an age appropriate time. His career line relative to the environment he was in isn't really that absurd.
  7. In my searching it looks like Gameday Audio removed that part from the archived file. Commies.
  8. So nobody's got that audio file? Disappointing.
  9. I don't even really like 12 man staffs. A 14 man staff is completely insane. Ned Yost is a dope. I haven't seen enough of Cecil Cooper or John Russell to know for sure, but it looks like they're dopes too. Our division may have the 4 worst managers in the majors in it.
  10. Football contracts are non-guaranteed, so re-negotiation is pretty much the players way of balancing things out. Guys have tried stuff along those lines when it comes to extensions. Francisco Cordero claimed that was his situation with Milwaukee last season. Sosa tried it with us in '03(maybe '04) Rick Reed did it with Minnesota.
  11. That doesn't seem possible, those would be absolute bombs... has any right hander gone into McCovey? For whatever reason I was thinking he was left handed, not sure why. Money shouldn't be a factor with Toronto already being on the hook for the remainder of his contract. Although it would say a lot about him if money is the key factor. Money pretty much can't be a factor on a 1 year deal. Toronto's on the hook for that money, and any contract he signs will be the pro-rated league minimum and would simply take away from what Toronto owes him. He's making 8M this year no matter where he goes.
  12. When you're rattling off a list of the team's talents, and the 3rd name on your list is Rick Ankiel(the hitting version) then there's not a lot of talent out there.
  13. He's 22 years old. If he gets hit by a truck tomorrow and never plays again he'll be financially secure for the rest of his life. He signed this with essentially no ML experience, so there's the possibility that he busts as well. It's happened before. That's the trade off. He could possibly earn double that (I'd say it would be something like $5M, $10M, $15M tops but who knows), or he could take complete financial security right now. I know what I'd do. Going from $3M to $17M is a much bigger deal than going from $17M to $30M (OK, whatever his take-home actually is from these numbers). The utility of the second $13M isn't worth the risk. Also, don't forget that these pro athletes, their agents, and the stupid owners don't know the meaning of a contract anyhow. A few years into the contract, he will demand more money, an extension, or a trade and make all the money he was going to get without this contract. Pro athletes want the security of a long-term contract and then complain about the money. You're thinking of football. Baseball contracts never get re-negotiated, and demanding a trade would do nothing to make him more money. An extension wouldn't change the money he's making for those 6-9 years either.
  14. Careful getting down from that cross. It doesn't sound like you're an unbiased source here. I can't dispute what you said, because it's all a person's opinion. You wouldn't expect Cubs fans to have an accurate opinion of White Sox fans would you? And, I'll usually be the last person to back up some of the tools at Cubs games.(See my rant titled the 4 people you meet at Cubs games.) The throwing all the balls on the field was stupid. Throwing trash on the field in the past was stupid. But this type of obnoxious tool behavior DOES happen everywhere. And at a pretty similar ratio. As CubinNY alluded to, you can't claim that us who rely on stats so heavily in baseball should be able to realize the ratio is greater, and then use your anecdotal evidence to prove it. It's flat out an opinion, and there's no way to prove it. Brennamen's biased, he's a Reds announcer and a senile old coot. We're biased, we're Cubs fans. You're biased, you're a Sox fan(I think) Oh well.
  15. I think Gerald Perry deserves a lot of credit for the approach change.
  16. Reed Johnson is leading off tomorrow. I'll be there in the crappy terrace with work people. I'll be the only guy there in a Fred McGriff jersey.
  17. Joey Votto 0 for 1. Looks like he needs some more seasoning.
  18. A few days ago I said how I wish Dusty Baker went to a team whose misery over the next 3 years I could truly revel in. Well now he is on a team whose misery I can truly revel in. And it's not because of Marty Brennamen.
  19. So in the early 80s when every SS was an abysmal hitter, you guys would've been okay with having DHs for them?
