  1. which we almost got, were it not for a Fontenot homer. Maybe, it is time to re-evaluate just how good this team really is. And we might have swept if Theriot got a hit on Tuesday night and Marmol didn't give up a 3 run HR on Thursday. A sign somebody has to come off the ledge. So at what point should we start to worry about the other teams in the division? Once they have passed us? Don't look at me, I've been well documented as worried about the Brewers since they were about 9 games out of first. You probably should start to worry about the Cardinals too. They have hung through half a season. They had a hot start. They've been a game over 500 since.
  2. I'm more a fan of the all star game than most around here, but I'll be far from crushed if he misses the game. Give him a few days off. That's been the only positive of Marmol's 2 week meltdown.

  5. Yes, because the Cubs franchise has proven time after time that they exceed expectations. I'd imagine they've exceeded your expectations pretty much every year of your existence.
  6. Member when people expected a 1-3/0-4 Giants series because we were without A-Ram?
  7. I know he has been good all year, but **** kerry wood. You have to get through the crap that is the bottom of the cardinals order. Apparently BudHouse has logged in as illiniguy today. I think Woody would tell you the same thing. He has to get the job done there. Now we probably drop this series. Why do we probably drop the series? We're better than the Cardinals, and are playing them tomorrow. Two reasons 1. Momentum 2. Cubs road record Momentum? Like our momentum coming off the Sox series at Wrigley?

We're better than the Cardinals, and are playing them tomorrow. If you had to bet everything you owned, would you bet on the Cubs rebounding and winning tomorrow? If I have to bet everything I own on the game one way or another, I bet on the Cubs.
  9. i didn't want to hang out anyway I'm more of a skol man personally.

  11. I know he has been good all year, but **** kerry wood. You have to get through the crap that is the bottom of the cardinals order. they'd be crap on most teams, but molina and skippy have hardly been crap this year. same with miles. They're all hitting .298 or higher. It's unbelievable. And Rick Ankiel has 3 more homers than any Cubs player. It's mind-blowing. The only bad thing that has ever happened to the Cardinals was Ankiel, so why wouldn't he come back and become a slugging CF? Daryl Kile's death was a blessing in disguise.
  12. Avoiding my Cub fan friend who'll be writing off the season all night.
  13. He "just threw strikes" to Kennedy and Ankiel. It's not that simple. Oh well, we lost to an inferior team. It happens, we even lost a few games to the Pirates.
  14. They're not. Seriously, I'd bet so much money on us finishing ahead of them this year.
  15. No one has ever questioned Lilly's passion for the game, similar to (as raw mentioned) Z. He does lose his focus at times in the heat of the moment and will carry it into the next batter(s). No, I understand that, it's just that it seems odd to call out one guy for not having a passion for the game, while other guys get called out for being too fired up. Admittedly I haven't been watching Lilly as long as lifetime scouts would have, but I haven't really seen his mistakes carrying over.
  16. Maybe, maybe not. Still doesn't sway my opinion of his mental approach to the game. Nameless whispers aren't going to change mine. Of course not, it also includes a topic most on this board choose to ignore or refuse plays a role in the game. I hope you don't lump me in with that. I certainly recognize the major role scouting plays in the game from minors through the majors, and that mental makeup is a part of that. I just happen to be one who thinks most of those with the poor makeup are those that are weeded out by the time they hit the majors. It's not going to make or break a player b/c his problems are when he gets angry with himself and he's good enough often to pitch w/out getting pissed. But, he's not very poised espec. for a SP. My problem is it seems like such a fine line between a "this guy doesn't care about baseball, he's not fully dedicated" and "this guys gets upset over every mistake and overthrows because of it"

  19. A mentally fragile guy probably would have given up more than 2 there.
  20. Makes me wonder why they don't put an option year on those contracts when they pick up the Lohses of the world. Where's the harm? By this point, these guys should be knocking down Duncan's door to come pitch for him, an option of ~7M shouldn't deter them.
