  1. You want the Cubs to win before game 5.
  2. I'd play matchups with Samardzija/Gaudin/Cotts. In a series winning game, I might go Marmol for 2.
  3. I think Howry's bumping Go-Dan. And that sucks.
  4. Lee's is surely worse. Per PA, not per opportunity. Where did you find per opportunity numbers? He's probably looking at PA with runners on first with less than 2 outs. Wait, do they actually provide that stat? I've heard it in multiple places, I believe even on a Cubs broadcast. I confirmed it on BR by taking PAs with a runner on 1st for each, and assumed a normal distribution of 2 out chances for each. Theriot hits a DP about once every 8 chances, while Lee hits about one every 9.

  6. How is this hurtful to his daughter and wife?
  7. Here's a list of players with 100 or more PAs with a worse DP rate than Ryan Theriot. ...
  8. Yup, it is pretty obvious that this is the best play-off rotation. Harden/Dempster/Z/Lilly is better.
  9. High School is pointless. Missing a day or 2 of high school hurts nothing.
  10. When I was a sophomore in college. You're all jerks.
  11. Wow...definitely should have jumped on the bandwagon when I had the chance. Of course in 2000 I was 18 years old and considered $500 a lot of money, and lived in New Hampshire, but still. I can't imagine the season ticket waiting list going down anytime soon, even if there are a few down years in a row. Same boat, only I was 16 in 2000. Angry face. I think I'm high enough on the list that I don't expect to ever get the call.
  12. The Cubs don't have that problem. What's the point of that? B&G has been pure class since coming here, and already admits in his post that the Brewers have been terrible.
  13. He started game 7 of the NLCS in 2006 and went 6 innings giving up 1 run. I guess that's where it comes from?? They didn't even win that game. Oliver Perez has a worse ERA+ than any of the 9 pitchers who have started a game for the Cubs this year.
  14. Ronny's IsoP (Isolated Power, SLG-BA) is .03 higher, and his IsoD (Isolated Discipline, OBP-BA) is .017. The power difference is basically the difference between Soto and Lee this year. The major difference right now between the two is that Theriot gets quite a few more singles, basically, to prop up the OBP and SLG with batting average. The OPS difference overall is quite minimal. 30 points of OPS is hardly "quite minimal." And, of course, what better time than now to try and favorably compare Cedeno to Theriot? Up until recently, Theriot has been a 760 OPS player all year and Ronny has been around a 690-700 OPS player. Certainly makes them look more comparable right after Theriot busted out of a 1-24 slump. I'm glad you refrained from comparing Theriot favorably to Cedeno when Cedeno was struggling. I'm certainly glad that people didn't go around calling Cedeno useless and question why he was in the majors while he was struggling. The entire season matters, and the fact that Theriot struggled recently means it's unfair to compare him to Cedeno? Did I say that it's unfair to compare him to Cedeno? No. I simply said (in a pretty straight-forward way) that it sure is convenient that all the Cedeno guys are coming out again now that Theriot is slumping. No one was calling for Theriot to get less playing time earlier in the year; the guy finally goes through a rough patch and everyone calls for his head again so that the great Ronny Cedeno can get more time! Why in the hell would people call for Cedeno to play while Theriot was playing well and Cedeno wasn't?
  15. I think you're thinking of a game earlier in the year vs Cincy. Cubs came back from 5 runs down to take the lead, only to give it back when Mulholland threw away an easy DP ball into CF. They did lose in Houston after the BB game, and Mulholland started one of those games, but he didnt have a throwing error. I remember watching that Cincy game in a bar and seeing Mulholland throw it away (distinctly remember the entire bar just gasping in disbelief). I don't know, I distinctly remember some sort of F up on a play at 1st with Mullholland down the stretch. I know what Derwood's talking about.

  17. Aside from the fact that not once in his career has Eckstein ever gotten on base as frequently as Theriot has this year, you're totally right! How do they compare speed-wise and defensively? Eckstein's probably a slightly better defender, while Theriot is faster. Eckstein's a better baserunner in spite of that.
  18. Mizzou will buy them (so he can resell them) You betcha! I love how people consistently single me out for this when plenty of others on this site do the exact same thing. I'm just not afraid to be vocal about it, I guess. If presented the opportunity to make $500 by spending an hour buying and selling baseball tickets, you're damn right I'll do it. If dear old dad wanted to go so badly, he'd have gotten his own damn tickets.
  19. Cedeno has a lot of physical talent, seems to have an improving approach at the plate, and his minor league numbers dwarf Theriot's. And he's younger. Theriot is a nice decent league minimum player who doesn't hurt the team too much, but it's not like he's a great player. Why is this so astounding? Have you watched Cedeno at the plate? He is clueless. How about in the field? Remember the double play up the middle he muffed and lost us a game 2 weeks ago? I never want the ball hit to him past the 5th inning. He may be one of the least intelligent players I have ever seen. Remember that time Theriot decided to throw the ball to the outfield while he was on his back? Seems really intelligent. Remember that month long stretch where Theriot couldn't go 2 games without being thrown out on the basepaths?
  20. And they brought Dick Stockton back!!
  21. Way to go you fat slob!!
  22. I'd rather play the Dodgers, but it's not an overwhelming preference. I'm just rooting for chaos of some sort, hopefully an extremely unlikely 3 way tie between Phils/Mets/Brewers
