  1. This is gonna be the hitter. I can feel it. Evan Skoug, come on down!
  2. Well that's good news that he already got his degree. Hopefully he takes slot. He's not the type of guy I would be happy paying overslot for.
  3. Erich Uelman. Another collegiate pitcher with Cape Cod League experience. Another meh pick overall, unfortunately. 5 straight college pitchers to start the draft. Someone go check on the FO to make sure they weren't kidnapped!
  4. horsefeathers. Thompson looks like he may have been the overslot. Boras client.
  5. And Wong gone now as well. My best available big board has been annihilated.
  6. It will be interesting to see if he's taken. Supposedly both Enlow and Allen told teams not to draft them after last night.
  7. Shorter? Isn't he 6'3"? I'm with you on both likely as bullpen arms though. Of course, college arms available at 27 and 30 aren't going to be slam dunks.
  8. horsefeathers I hope I'm wrong about Lange. I really do not like him as a prospect. It's apparent that the "type of pitcher" that McLeod was referring to was one with a really good curveball.
  9. Where did Little spend last summer? That's right. Another Cape Cod pick by this regime. 8-) horsefeathers the Lange pick. I hate him as a prospect. Reliever.
  10. Keith Law tweeted that a source for a team with a lower top 10 pick informed him that Lewis looks to be the 1st pick. It's been McKay/Wright for the past 3 months it seems. Crazy how weird this draft is up top.
  11. Probably not a surprise that his pre-draft MRI results are bad.
  12. I talked to a guy this morning about Varsho who have seen him personally, and he told me that he's much closer to 30th in this class than he is to 60. Apparently the bat is a lot better than what little I could find to read about online. One guy I trust told me that he would consider placing a 70 on his raw power (still about 55 in-game). That's significantly better than what the interwebz would have me believe. Thinks he's a 55 hit guy as well. Said the arm was "pitiful" but that he received the ball "adequately". Above average runner that could play LF if need be, which he thinks is likely. Honestly, that package sounds a bit similar to what Schwarber was coming out. It's only one guy, but he's watched a lot of baseball in that region. I trust his report.
  13. When signed, he was thought of as a defensive-first catcher with gold glove potential. He clearly has displayed an elite ability to throw our guys so far. BA's scouting reports on him when he signed didn't even mention his apparent howitzer of an arm. They pointed to how advanced he was as a receiver and that he showed early strength as a framer. I'm not asking for much. I'll take prime Carlos Ruiz as his comp, since they are both from Panama.
  14. Per the twitters, Daulton Varsho reportedly had a terrific workout for the Cubs. I remember somebody had us taking him as a big underslot in the 1st. Law? I'd be slightly disappointed with that pick, given how terrible the reports are on his arm behind the plate. And sign me up for the Schmidt/Allen mocks.
  15. Holy horsefeathers. Thursday cannot come soon enough. I will be tuning in to as many Eugene games as I possibly can.
  16. The under slot one, over slot the other idea Law is talking about, explains Varsho, Rooker, Gonzalez, maybe even Melendez being mocked to us. Top 15 talent.....Baz a possibility? I'll guess not. Same with Hall. Leaves Carlson and Rogers, I'd guess..... There first has to be a top 15 talent that drops. I haven't heard of any true tough signs yet, other than Brady McConnell and Mark Vientos in a blurb in one of the recent mocks. Has anybody else seen other names listed as tough signs?
  17. He went 8th overall to the Phillies.
  18. That would certainly be an underslot type pick at 27. He sounds like Zagunis, but with a bit more pop. Apparently doesn't have a strong enough arm to stick at C for many scouts.
  19. That was from the Levine article a day or two ago. Callis posted another mock draft as well. Has the Cubs taking Houck at 27 (and passing on Romero and Carlson) and Allen at 30. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/235304580/round-1-forecast-mlb-draft-starts-monday/?topicid=151437456
  20. I don't doubt that the FO would want both Romero and Rogers, but that's not likely. Interesting to see them mentioned with Romero though.
  21. It would be interesting to see how they would go at 30, if all 3 of Schmidt/Carlson/Romero were there. I tend to think they wouldn't touch Romero, due to the off-the-field stuff, but I can't say that I would be disappointed if they took the gamble.
  22. Yuck. I knew he was a bit old for the class, but I didn't think he was quite that old. Also, the more and more I read about Drew Waters, the more I want him. Switch hitter that reportedly plays good CF defense and is a plus athlete. The reports make is seem like he has a much better hit tool than the likes of Adell or Beck and that he has a good eye at the plate, but he doesn't have their power or really any true standout tool. Kind of sounds like Dexter Fowler a bit.
  23. Because prep pitchers are ridiculously risky as a whole? It's a big gamble to devote that much of your draft spending pool on the most volatile asset in the mlb draft. There are also injuries, unrefined mechanics, projecting development of secondaries, body types, etc that of course come into play as well. I personally am with you on just taking the guys you have rated highest, assuming they fit the budget, but I get the thought that you could get 2 hitters you really like in the 1st round, save some money, and still get a high ceiling lottery ticket pitcher in the next round.
