  1. 4 weeks of SEC play and India is at .429/.547/886 with 12 HRs and a 25 BBs to 22 Ks, and a perfect 4 for 4 in SBs for good measure. He's not going to make it to 62 as I once hoped.
  2. Just like the chances aren't very good at getting a guy who can stick as a starter and has 3 plus pitches with both control and command. The odds of getting an impact player of any kind outside of the 1st round are just not high at all. I would prefer at least 3 hitters in the first 5 picks this summer, but it obviously can't be forced.
  3. I would like to see more Ks from Lange, given that he is a college pitcher with an advanced secondary. But not bad for a first start. 0 walks was nice.
  4. Nice. 4:3 GO/FO as well, and only used 65 pitches.
  5. He's a bulldog out there. Never gonna be a TOR starter, but I could see a future where he ate innings as a #4.
  6. I need 2 of the 3 listed starters to have good games tonight to make up for the severe lack of interesting bats playing in full season ball.
  7. It was a line drive single even. Not of the IF variety that is so common in the minors.
  8. It certainly could be semantics, but isn't that expected? If there isn't any improvement, especially after all the top 100 picks in June, it would be a tremendous disappointment. At least for me. Improvement to the 21-24 range is what I would expect after normal prospect development and adding all the draft picks and IFA picks this summer. I would be really pleased if several guys took off and bumped the system to the 13-18 range.
  9. I tend to cool pretty quickly on these lottery ticket type prospects, Wilson's an example of that. Entering 2017 I had high hopes, he more or less got his ass handed to him by MWL pitchers, and now my OF hopes are for one of these IFAs, Velazquez, or a TBD high 2018 pick to step up. The ultimate dream is that one of these teenaged switch hitters they've piled up becomes the next Beltran. That seems fair and realistic. He actually hit really well after the injury last year. .255/.339/.516, 10% BB, 19.1% K, .282 BABIP, 135 wRC+ If he hadn't done that, I would be there with you. But with his defense in CF and speed on the basepaths, that keeps the dream alive. Velazquez is the guy I'm allowing myself to dream on if Wilson doesn't take the step forward.
  10. Bohm is an excellent draft prospect but Kris Bryant's excellence is so understated for a player so accomplished already. I also like my Swaggerty/Granderson comp better than Benintendi, same build and potential skillsets if you asked me. Logan Gilbert is really meh for me. Jenista's cool, though he was a better overall athlete initially but like Bohm he's always hit. The same guy who said Bohm was a 1B/DH as a pro, said Jenista will have no problems playing COF as a pro, barring injury. He probably goes mid-1st anyway, but if he were to somehow fall a little further than expected, I would love to have him added to the system.
  11. Was really hoping this would be the year D.J. Wilson erupts, while really toning down the Ks. His post-injury 2017 had me optimistic. Yesterday was not a step in that direction.
  12. Has he seen Bohm play in the field? I just don't see any way he stays there. I love that bat though. Still could be a top 5 pick based on just the bat. I've seen him play in the field on video. He seems fine to me. KB was a much better athlete and had a much stronger arm. I felt way more confident about Bryant's ability to stay at 3B. His first step isn't great and he might have trouble on slow rollers. I thought Alex Gordon could stick at 3B, but I never watched him play in college. I could be wrong, but I believe most scouts think Bohm can play 3B at the pro level. You'll live with his defense at 3B if Bohm's bat is as special as scouts say it is. He has good makeup too. I've admittedly only seen him 1 time, and it wasn't enough to form an opinion. But I have spoken with 2 guys (1 a D1 coach, another a scout who saw him extensively on the Cape last summer) who said he is a 1B/DH all the way. They said very similar things that you mentioned about his 1st step being terrible. Basically they called him a statue over there. I think right now scouts are 50/50 at best about his ability to stick.
  13. Well that’s a shocker. Ricky Thomas, of all people, gets the OD start for South Bend. Edit: apparently he goes by Tyler Thomas, not Ricky Thomas. I knew he dropped a name. Have to imagine he’s piggy backing with someone.
  14. It looks like 5A, which is 1200-1600 kids. It goes up to 8A, so a little bigger than average down there. That's pretty strong Yeah, a brief search shows that Addy Russell, Eric Hosmer, and Josh Donaldson all played at that level. It's Florida, so there is going to be legit talent at every level.
  15. What high school level is he pitching at? It looks like 5A, which is 1200-1600 kids. It goes up to 8A, so a little bigger than average down there.
  16. Travis Swaggerty seems to have hit a wall recently. Has he seen Bohm play in the field? I just don't see any way he stays there. I love that bat though. Still could be a top 5 pick based on just the bat. Previous pop-up mention, Gunnar Hoglund, is still doing things. [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] You read that correctly. He has 4 no-hitters in 7 starts this year; 2 of which were perfect games.

  18. That is indeed bold. I would be pleased with middle of the pack.
  19. Clifton going for Tennessee. Roth and Tseng going for Iowa. No word on SB yet.
  20. If there were any other legit options at Iowa, he would be in the pen already.
  21. He has stood out offensively whenever I'd watch Florida games last year. I have to imagine he has boosted his stock to the point where he's being considered a 2nd rounder at least. If he keeps mowing through SEC pitching the rest of the year, he may end up a 1st rounder.
  22. I haven't heard as much about Abbot yet in the minor league recaps. It may just be a matter of him being a bit behind the others. If he's still throwing 89-91 in a few weeks, I'm gonna be disappointed. I am higher on Abbott than I probably should be, but something in my gut is telling me that he will amount to something. Meanwhile, Jonathan Sierra and Nelson Velazquez have returned to where we expected them to be, Mesa/Eugene. Super impressive if Morel can make South Bend - he'd be skipping the AZL and NWL in his stateside debut and age 19 season. Wow. That would indeed be impressive. I can't remember the exact injury he had that kept him out of 2017, but I do seem to recall that it was a freak accident of some sort. I may have to google that in a bit.
  23. A guy that hasn't been discussed much, but probably should be, is Jonathan India from UF. I will be following him more closely now that SEC play is in full swing. 24 games into the season and he's rocking a .429/.535/.909 slash line with 9 HRs and 17 BBs to 15 Ks. He hasn't been playing SS this year, but his D at 3B has received some really solid reviews. I think I read somewhere that many thought he was a 2B at the next level.
  24. Yes. I never meant to insinuate that I prefer Robinson to Rucker. I don't. It's just that I could see where the FO might, based on those things I pointed out. They are both clearly superior to the likes of Kyle Miller, IMO.
  25. Over Miller and Kellogg, absolutely. Robinson is actually kind of interesting though. Better frame than Rucker to handle a starter's workload. Much better breaking ball. Induces a lot of groundballs, and more than Rucker. Maybe they want to groom Rucker in a swingman type role right now, as they perceive that to be his most valuable spot in the bigs (assuming he makes it). I could see it.
