    Same here. I know he's old. I know he strikes out too much for college. But I just kind of dig this pick for some reason.

    Damn. A's picked Schwartz. They probably aren't as cheap as your traditional senior signs but they would be good picks. Well, Montes de Oca still would be - I can imagine him moving quickly as a reliever. Yeah, I could see either playing Indy ball for a year if they only get offered $5K. But the Cubs don't need to underslot that much, or at least they shouldn't at this point.

    I know I should expect a run of senior signs about now, but I would really appreciate a fun pick in the 7th like Kerry Wright.

    As with the first two prepsters taken, Franklin apparently missed a good chunk of the year (most?) with an injury (broken foot). Stuff is decidedly "meh" but he's at least got a nice frame.

    Both Cease and Estrada were 6th-round picks. Maybe this will be the round? D.J. Wilson was 4th round, he's the only other million-dollar superslot I can recall. (Well, obviously Sands and Steele, too...) The 7-figure bonus overslots under this regime were Underwood in the 2nd round in 2012; Sands (4th), Steele (5th) and Cease (6th) in 2014; Hudson (3rd) and Wilson (4th) in 2015; and Estrada (6th) in 2017. Hannemann got seven figures as well as a 3rd rounder. 2013 I think?

    Not shocked that the Cubs took him, given his Cape Cod pedigree. A little shocked he was taken this high though. Normally you would say "underslot" but after Richan got slot money, I have no idea.

    There was zero criticism of the Mookie Betts pick because 1. It was a 5th round pick, and 2. It came before draft spending limits.

    I read the Roederer blurb to mean he’s looking for 7 figures. That would be rough.

    I follow the draft and Im not going to pretend I knew who Roederer was before that pick. Not only was he a big reach there, but they also have to overslot him to the point that they punt the 2nd comp pick? At least they weren’t all pitchers?

    Given that these guys can now be dealt right after signing, there is potential immediate impact here for a contender like the Cubs at the deadline.

    Marlin Bystro over at PSD thinks the Cubs won't take a prep pitcher before the 5th round.

    Last year he mocked Nate Pearson and Drew Rasmussen (Little and Lange). No 1st rounder in 2016. He mocked Benintendi in 2015 (sigh, Ian Happ). He mocked Conforto in 2014 (Schwarber). He hit on every demographic chosen, but didn't actually get any of the picks themselves right. If he's saying the Cubs are leaning towards hitters, which he is, it seems like a good bet that they go with a bat in the 1st.

    I like Edwards enough, but the Vandy commit is a little concerning. He may cost a pretty penny in the 1st, and there should be others available that are equally as talented and come cheaper.

    Who knows anymore with this guy? Would not mind the Reds doing that at all. Murray has struck out like 25% of the time this year. Big questions about that hit tool for me.

    They also said Conner Scott to the Marlins at 13 is about as much of a lock as you can get in the teens.
