  1. Yeah, that's been him all year. Huge disappointment. The game he left early in June, then missed some time, he was hitting 95mph. He wasn't hitting 90mph with the Cubs last year, so there's progress... His development is a process, the Cubs have him working on lots of stuff. Top end speed on his 4-seamer is not one of the things they're concentrating on. That's much more common, and understandable, given that he threw 100+ innings in a full season of college ball and then took a little time off. His velo has never come back to his pre-draft form that was a huge part in him being a 1st rounder. It's a legitimate concern, especially if he can be 92-93 for a short time and then lose several mphs as the innings progress. He's almost 22 years old already. Regarding the rest, do you happen to know someone in the organization or Little himself? Legit question, as that post had a few statements that only somebody with those connections could make.
  2. I wonder if Amaya is one of those extremely inconsistent defenders, because I've seen both a report that he's raw behind the plate, as well as a report that he's advanced defensively as a catcher. Both from this year. I haven't been able to catch enough games to form an opinion on my own yet.
  3. I have Bote 5th. He's still prospect eligible but I assume he'll graduate (and/or be traded) by season's end. 1. C Miguel Amaya 2. RHP Adbert Alzolay 3. SS Aramis Ademan 4. SS Nico Hoerner 5. 2B David Bote 6. RHP Alex Lange 7. LHP Brailyn Márquez 8. OF Brennen Davis 9. OF Cole Roederer 10. C Jhonny Pereda 11. RHP Cory Abbott 12. LHP Justin Steele 13. LHP Brendon Little 14. RHP Oscar de la Cruz 15. RHP Duane Underwood Jr 16. RHP Dakota Mekkes 17. RHP Bailey Clark (this rating is a bit dependent on what his injury is and how severe it is) 18. SS Zack Short 19. RHP Duncan Robinson 20. RHP Richard Gallardo Get out of my head! That's the exact same top 9 I would have.
  4. It sure sounds like the explosiveness in his stuff hasn't been there this year. I will probably knock him down pretty far. He's not in my top 15, maybe not top 20. If I get a little more time, I will make a list as well.
  5. Yeah, that's been him all year. Huge disappointment.
  6. Brennen Davis hasn’t played since June 27th. Not good at all for a player who had injury concerns pre-draft.
  7. Where the hell did that come from? More, please.
  8. Then he needs to learn how to nibble more. (That’s not something I thought I would ever type). A HR given up and a couple more solid base hits allowed.
  9. Roederer walks, steals 2nd, and scores in his first taste of pro ball. That’ll do
  10. Well I’ve got good news for you. Excellent! Roederer and Herron are debuting tonight too!
  11. That World roster is straight up turrible.
  12. This system really needs all the 2018 draftees to get healthy again. Hoerner/Davis/Artis all going down right away is a kick to the nuts of everyone who follows the farm. Maybe we will get a bone thrown our way and Roederer will debut tonight.
  13. Yeesh. Paid him like a 4th rounder. That's unfortunate.
  14. I swear the two AZL teams only play on the same day about twice a week.
  15. Velazquez has been decent the past week or so. Still striking out too much though.
  16. I asked Arizona Phil in the comments but he wasn’t sure. I'd rather have Serrano, tbh.
  17. He's probably comparing it to a ML fastball and not other sixteen year olds, which is standard. If he would have thrown grades out, then yes. He didn’t. That whole statement was just really weird.
  18. The other half of the Disappointment Duo went tonight as well and walked 6 guys in 1+ innings.
  19. That is an odd statement to me. He's 16 years old. I've seen video of him in the low 90's. What is he considering non-fringe velocity in a 16 year old? I doubt he pitches in the low 90's consistently. Lots of teenage pitchers have that listed in their profiles. We have to remember that average velocity is rising so what was considered average 10 years ago is now fringe or slightly-below average. I think the average fastball in MLB is now ~93 MPH. He should get stronger and add more velo as he matures. I like his curveball from the little I've seen in clips. The lowest reports have him 89-91 with his fastball. But regardless, why would anyone ever compare a 16 year old's velocity with that of the average fastball in the bigs, or even full season A ball for that matter? The answer is nobody would (or should), which means he is comparing Gallardo's velocity with that of other 16 year old IFAs. He seems right in line with the majority of them; even higher than many. And honestly, the ones that throw high 90's as 16 years olds have historically flamed out rather spectacularly.

  21. Seems like Mr. Longenhagen needs to catch a game in Eugene. Marquez is SITTING 94-96 in his 3 starts so far. Arizona Phil had similarly disappointing velocity of Brailyn in Extended. It's nice to see the jump, hopefully it's real and sticks. That's why I was certain it was just a hot gun in his first start. 2 more starts later, combined with no other known or reported velocity outliers in other prospects, has me believing that Marquez is legitimately the mid-90's version right now. As you said, let's hope it sticks.

  23. https://www.mlb.com/news/cubs-to-sign-no-5-prospect-richard-gallardo/c-283427222?tid=151437456 Sanchez gives a little blurb about the other guys. "Pinango, who stands at 5-foot-11 and weighs 195 pounds, is a physical prospect who can hit and run. He's also athletic enough to stay in center field. The lean and muscular Morel impressed scouts with his bat and is a plus runner. His older brother Christian is a shortstop who signed with the Cubs in 2015."
