  1. I swear the two AZL teams only play on the same day about twice a week.
  2. Velazquez has been decent the past week or so. Still striking out too much though.
  3. I asked Arizona Phil in the comments but he wasn’t sure. I'd rather have Serrano, tbh.
  4. He's probably comparing it to a ML fastball and not other sixteen year olds, which is standard. If he would have thrown grades out, then yes. He didn’t. That whole statement was just really weird.
  5. The other half of the Disappointment Duo went tonight as well and walked 6 guys in 1+ innings.
  6. That is an odd statement to me. He's 16 years old. I've seen video of him in the low 90's. What is he considering non-fringe velocity in a 16 year old? I doubt he pitches in the low 90's consistently. Lots of teenage pitchers have that listed in their profiles. We have to remember that average velocity is rising so what was considered average 10 years ago is now fringe or slightly-below average. I think the average fastball in MLB is now ~93 MPH. He should get stronger and add more velo as he matures. I like his curveball from the little I've seen in clips. The lowest reports have him 89-91 with his fastball. But regardless, why would anyone ever compare a 16 year old's velocity with that of the average fastball in the bigs, or even full season A ball for that matter? The answer is nobody would (or should), which means he is comparing Gallardo's velocity with that of other 16 year old IFAs. He seems right in line with the majority of them; even higher than many. And honestly, the ones that throw high 90's as 16 years olds have historically flamed out rather spectacularly.

  8. Seems like Mr. Longenhagen needs to catch a game in Eugene. Marquez is SITTING 94-96 in his 3 starts so far. Arizona Phil had similarly disappointing velocity of Brailyn in Extended. It's nice to see the jump, hopefully it's real and sticks. That's why I was certain it was just a hot gun in his first start. 2 more starts later, combined with no other known or reported velocity outliers in other prospects, has me believing that Marquez is legitimately the mid-90's version right now. As you said, let's hope it sticks.

  10. https://www.mlb.com/news/cubs-to-sign-no-5-prospect-richard-gallardo/c-283427222?tid=151437456 Sanchez gives a little blurb about the other guys. "Pinango, who stands at 5-foot-11 and weighs 195 pounds, is a physical prospect who can hit and run. He's also athletic enough to stay in center field. The lean and muscular Morel impressed scouts with his bat and is a plus runner. His older brother Christian is a shortstop who signed with the Cubs in 2015."
  11. I hate that we have to wait until Instructs to get eyes on these players.
  12. Davis still hasn’t gotten back into a game since having to leave a few nights ago. Hopefully it’s just the organization being overly cautious rather than him sustaining any kind of injury.
  13. Yeah no, this never happened A wild and crazy DSL HR still doesn’t cover that Marquez wasn’t particularly good last year when there were fences for the ball to go over. It’s not the end of the world to not have every box checked for a TOR type prospect at a healthy 19. There’s so many roles for pitchers, especially a healhy lefty, that there’s more ways to make an impact. Why isn’t 3 HR in ~45 good? And 1 in ~55 the year before? Or at least why is that a huge wart and worry? Especially considering he's added several MPHs since last summer.
  14. Marquez is done after 6. 6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 Ks, 4:3 GO/FO on 77 pitches Hoerner ripped a 2 out triple for his first xbh at Eugene and then scored on a wild pitch. Nice to see him hitting a ball in the air a bit. He's been burning worms since coming into the system.
  15. Marquez strikes out the side in the 3rd as well, all swinging. We might have something here.
  16. Eugene's twitter has a video up already with all 3 strikeouts in the 1st. Last hitter was caught looking at a 95 mph fastball. My bad. Last K was swinging.

  18. Arkansas has never won a baseball championship either. That’s some straight up pre-2016 Cubbery right there. My bro-in-law coaches for Arkansas and I didn’t dare call or text him tonight.
  19. From a poster at bleacher nation; I think he attends AZL games regularly: Well that’s a relief if true.
  20. horsefeathers. Davis replaced after 1 AB today. Grounded out in his only AB.
  21. Hoerner with an inning-killing double play after the first 2 hitters drew walks. If that isn’t proof that he’s with the right organization, I don’t know what is.
  22. Walked him on 4 straight. Then OSU had a beautiful suicide squeeze to get a run in. He just about hit Trevor Larnach on the first pitch and got pulled mid-batter. Ouch. 89-91 with the fastball. Slider had tons of movement but he wasn’t commanding it at all. Wasn’t commanding anything really.
  23. Reindl coming into the game to face Madrigal with a couple runners on.
  24. So 290Kish for Parker, barring more underslot becoming available from Weber. Not sure that’s enough. Here’s hoping.
