  1. It's behind the paywall for me as well. Actually, EVERYTHING is now behind a paywall over at BA. Their top 500 (or 200 or whatever it first was) has been free content for as long as I've been actively following the draft. I can't access it anymore without a subscription.
  2. He's in the same convo as Trout/Harper IMO. Then again... it's a short list of teenage prospects who raked in AA or higher. Who else would there be in the 21st century? You're asking a different question than Tom. If the question is about who was a better prospect as a teenager, the list is very, very short. If the question is who was a better prospect overall, then it is more open. I think that at least Bryant and Strasburg should be added to the overall list. Vlad Jr.'s bat looks fantastic. It could be something really special. But don't let it overshadow the fact that he won't be providing any defensive or baserunning value. Guys like Trout/Harper/KB/Correa/etc all have well-rounded games and were better overall prospets. But pure offensive ability? Give me Vlad Jr. over pretty much everyone.
  3. From your mouth to God's ears.
  4. Meh. Make him a reliever and see if his stuff picks up. I don't really care for Hatch and I was disappointed when the Cubs selected him in the 3rd round. That 2016 draft class doesn't look great right now. I wanted Zac Gallen who went two picks later to the Cardinals. In a system where zero pitching prospects are stepping up, Hatch needs to be given every opportunity to stick. He was really good last year in High A after the first month. Yesterday was another ugly start though. Tough to get hung up on a 3rd round pick when the Cubs had a tiny draft pool that year. As with seemingly every arm drafted by this FO, he looks like he can certainly be a reliever. Can't be too unhappy with that outcome from that draft.
  5. Not a great 3rd inning so far, either. Bases juiced after 2 line drive singles and a walk. Zero Ks.
  6. My mind exaggerated Marquez's velo. I read "bumping mid-90's" on previous reports and went to 95. This is much less impressive.
  7. Hopefully Hatch's last start was a sign of him improving after a rough month or so. I remember him having a really ugly start to 2017 as well, before turning it on.
  8. He never wowed me at SS, but he wasn't glaringly bad there either. He looked really dang good at 3B. I would absolutely be fine with him getting a shot to stick at SS. I'm fairly salty that the Cubs have no chance at him anymore.
  9. I saw a report that had him bumping 95 with a plus change. Could have been a hot gun though. Either way, he's been in that 91-94 range all year, which presents a pretty big jump from the 88-90 he was at prior to this year. The changeup will be even better with the added velo. Curve is average. He throws tons of strikes as well, which is a nice departure from seemingly the rest of the organization. I'm geniunely intrigued here.
  10. Yes, please. I would love that draft, as I'm a big fan of both Edwards and Hansen.
  11. Callis with the mock draft to make Tom's day: https://www.mlb.com/news/college-players-lead-in-mlb-mock-draft/c-276190214?tid=151437456 I do love that he links us solely to higher upside prep players though. As a Cubs fan, it seems Callis generally has at least an inkling of the types of players the Cubs are going after.
  12. Well, we can take solace in the fact that we're probably not one of the teams that's contacted him. I don't know why a team would contact him or consider drafting him. I hope you're right.
  13. I hate everything about what they did with the Cubs pick. Not much of an Eierman fan, and their "also considered" list is filled with BOR college starters.
  14. That depends on what you mean by "permanent", I guess. There's nothing in there that said he'd never be used as a starter again. He's being moved to the bullpen for now. And I think that's smart. It's not a bad idea to limit his exposure for the time being. Have him work things out with coaches in side sessions, and then take it into game situations out of the pen in shorter stints. Get things ironed out (if they can...), hopefully have him get a couple of scoreless innings under his belt. Rebuild his confidence, which has assuredly taken a hit. And when they think he's ready (a month or so down the road depending), give him a start. I mean, maybe it's more dire than that, I don't know. But that seems like a more logical plan than moving him to the pen permanently at the age of 19. Underwood has lasted in a rotation in this system for several years now, despite not deserving it. Albertos won't be pushed to the pen permanently.
  15. Great stuff. Thanks for posting that. I didn't think BA usually got around to that until a week or so before the draft.
  16. That does seem likely. Just give the O's whatever AAAA player or two that they want and get all the IFA money we can.
  17. One of the pop up guys this year. I would prefer a hitter, but if they go pitcher, Rodriguez is the type of arm I want.
  18. I had not noticed just how well he has been doing so far this year. Good stuff.
  19. I really hope they send a few legit hitting prospects there as well. Maybe a couple of Velasquez, Morel, Vazquez, Kelli or Moreno. The last 2 may or may not be legit prospects, but I want to see them.
  20. Just so we are on the same page, has there been an updated scouting report on Hjelle that has him gaining velocity? I've only seen 1 game of his and he was 90-92, and was around 90 much more frequently in the 4th and 5th. The reports I've read have him in that same range. I didn't see one plus secondary pitch, although I've seen reports that he has flashed a plus curve. The changeup is average. I will agree that the command is really good though. He's a strikethrower. But he doesn't miss any bats. K/9 under 8 this year in college is a huge red flag for me. It's a testament to his mediocre stuff if he can't even get collegiate players to swing and miss. You have to be 100% sure that Hjelle is going to be able to gain several ticks on the fastball and that he gets consistency with the curve and change. Just because a guy is tall and has a frame to add on to, doesn't mean the velo with increase. People always kept waiting for Chris Volstad, Jon Rauch and Mark Hendrickson to bump up their velos, but it never happened. Volstad is actually the guy that comes to mind when I see Hjelle. Maybe Chris Young on the high side. Neither are ideal, although early career Chris Young had a season or two that were solid.
  21. Not sure how good a mock is when it has Singer at #2 overall but anyways, here are some other names that have been mentioned around here: Triston Casas at 13, Jonathan India at 14, Cole Winn at 15, Ethan Hankins at 18, Trevor Larnach at 21, Ryan Weathers at 22, Kumar Rocker at 23, Noah Naylor at 25 and Connor Scott at 28. Pass. I don't want anything to do with Hjelle in the 1st. Solid, but not great stuff. Solid, but not great collegiate production. He's absurdly tall so all sorts of things could happen to his mechanics (even though he repeats them fine right now). At this point I'm over taking college pitchers in the 1st round that need things to fall right just so they can be a BOR starter.
  22. Dylan Cease: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BBs, 12 Ks, 6:2 GO/FO Sigh. Why do I do that to myself.
  23. Wow. Well that would be fun. With all the horsefeathers performance this organization has had so far this year on the pitching front, it would be nice to have a breakout or two from unexpected places.
  24. I need to see Underwood sustain this until July if I'm even going to buy it a little.
  25. I really would like to see him get a shot at starting. I missed that he was promoted. That's a great debut.
