  1. BA seems to be the one that has Maitan the highest ranked still. I'm not sure if I've seen a recent report from anybody else that would put Maitan in their top 100. I could see the Cubs still being interested though, if they bought the bat. We all know a bad body didn't stop them from falling in love with Schwarber.
  2. Has Shintaro Fujinami gone the way of Yuki Saito, the guy that was supposed to be a rival to Tanaka for years?
  3. I would be floored if the Cubs left any of their IFA pool unspent. At this point it's obvious that they aren't going to be shelling out $3 million to one of the LA bonus babies in the 2018 class, so I wonder if they are taking the shotgun approach or if they knew that they would need the majority of their pool for a Japanese or Cuban player?
  4. It would be great if Maitan had an ego about the signing bonus, and was willing to wait until he could get the $4 million again from some team. Given that I don't believe the Cubs were mentioned with any of the bigger name IFAs yet for next year, they could be in a position to pounce.
  5. Rucker is one of those guys that will probably never appeal to scouts. Short RHP without elite velocity or movement, no wipeout secondary, and is a flyball pitcher. Hatch is also a relatively short RHP, but he has the great movement on all of his stuff, while still having solid velocity. His slider can be plus, and he induces tons of groundballs with all of his pitches. I'm a big fan of Hatch, as long as he stays healthy. Rucker is sitting in the 92-93 range IIRC, and his GB% at Myrtle Beach was higher than Hatch's. Which is why I said it's not elite. Hatch sits 92-94 as well, but with tons more movement. I do stand corrected on Rucker's GB rate, though. I thought he was a flyball pitcher for some reason. That is a big boon for him, as he doesn't have the secondaries as mentioned before.
  6. 4th or 5th round pick.(5th, I think) Big power, had some hamstring issues during his HS season in Puerto Rico last year, so underperformed a bit. Healthy now, seems like we got a steal. Was over slotted, slot was 285k and we gave him 400k. 5th round. I can't remember who it was, but one of the national guys was commenting on how legit he was after the season. Went on to compliment the Cubs for being able to look past the injury-plagued HS season to see his talent.

  8. I just can't put De La Cruz that high. I get that he's got good stuff, but he isn't getting many innings at all. He honestly may already be on a reliever trajectory. I thought the great post-DL 2nd half of D.J. Wilson would have put him a bit higher in a depleted system, but I guess not. Also hadn't realized that Vazquez was that highly thought of defensively. That's fun.
  9. It was horsefeathering pancreatic cancer. A 17 year old had late-stage pancreatic cancer. That horsefeathers should be reserved for 70 year old alcoholics who drank their lives away, not 17 year olds. Just terrible.
  10. Dude had a Sammy hop.
  11. Little only gave up two singles and a BB in 4ip, but somehow allowed three runs to score (there was an error in the inning). That's some powerful sequencing luck right there. I was more referencing only 3 K's in 4 innings in SS ball as a 1st round college draft pick. Going through the play by play though, it looks like he came apart went guys got on base.
  12. Another "meh" outing for Little. I didn't see anything online about it, but am assuming he was high-80's again. On the other hand, Uelmen was good again.
  13. Estrada made his pro debut and threw a perfect inning with a K.
  14. Did somebody copy/paste an old Junior Lake scouting report and change SS/3B to RF/CF?
  15. That's still a few ticks slower than college, but not unexpected after the college season and then a layoff.
  16. Today would be a great day for Alzolay to strike out a bunch of guys to lift everyone's spirits.
  17. Yeah, Eloy is gonna mash. We just have to get over that. Quintana not being "meh" would go a long way towards helping all of us with this. Paredes mashing is the one that hurts me right now. Wilson has looked truly terrible so far.
  18. Any news on D.J. Wilson's injury?
  19. Well that's about as good as you could hope for, if true. I had just written him off as needing TJS.
  20. At least it was better than Bryant's debut?
  21. No Albertos again. His start was skipped, as Camargo went the day after him the last time through the rotation. Held out due to imminent trade? Put on your tin foil hats, people. It's more likely he has another minor injury but I don't want to go there.
  22. Top 60 overall for Alzolay? Law must have better reports on the secondaries than what I've seen.
  23. 135 wRC+ All the guys outperforming him in the NWL are a minimum of 2 years older than him. Just a fantastic offensive start for the kid.
  24. He's really cut down the walks in the Cape so far this summer.
  25. This would be a pretty fun night for pitching if Clifton wasn't sucking this year. Also, Brendon Little got assigned to Eugene. He only pitched 85 innings this season, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him throw a 2 inning stint once or twice a week.
